10 College Application Process: Student Responsibility The student is responsible for Verifying that complete college application is sent online. Visit the college/university s admissions page for their application and process. Please allow at least 6 weeks for colleges to process & update websites. Counseling keeps spreadsheet of dates when electronic transcripts are downloaded and receipt cards to verify when mailed applications were received. 2. Having SAT and/or ACT scores sent directly to college (and NCAA) from appropriate testing service. Most colleges will not accept scores from high schools, and scores are not on transcripts.

11 College Application Process: Student Responsibility The student is responsible for Acquiring a counselor/teacher recommendation, ONLY if required by a college. Senior Profile must be submitted to the counselor for a recommendation! SENIOR PROFILE 3. Giving teacher(s) an addressed stamped envelope if a recommendation is required, as well as an academic resume. Check with teachers directly to see if letter(s) were mailed (3 week turn-around time) ***If the college does not require a recommendation letter or school evaluation form, then please do not request them***

12 College Application Process: Student Responsibility The student is responsible for Printing school evaluation form for counselors to complete (if applicable) and submitting Senior Profile Sheet with printed form; 6. Requesting Transcripts online; Using MyPaymentsPlus to pay for transcript; The fee for each transcript is $4.00. The FINAL transcript at the end of the year is free. 13 College Application Process: Student Responsibility The student is responsible for Providing other materials as appropriate (resume, recommendation letters, counselor checklists, etc.) to accompany the transcript. Turn in all materials to Mrs. Shirley McKinzie in the Main Hall Counseling Office. 8. Students should BE AWARE of deadlines!!! Submit request with enough time to process the official transcript. Failure to submit all required documents may result in delay for processing the application.

15 Unofficial Transcripts Some schools (recently the University of Southern Carolina and Florida State University) ask students to self-report their high school academic record. You can save and upload a pdf copy of your unofficial transcript on Parent Portal.

22 Early Action VS. Early Decision Early Action * If accepted, student is not obligated to attend * Application deadline usually in mid October *Over 55% of Early Action applicants are designated as academically superior and will be offered admission. These students are truly academically superior. Many have also previously enrolled in collegelevel classes *GA TECH: (Oct. 15) notified Mid- December *UGA: (Oct. 15) notified December 15 Early Decision *Student usually applies between October and mid-january *If accepted, student is obligated to attend *If accepted, student must withdraw all other applications *Emory *Most recommended to still apply EARLY, but for Regular Decision *Many colleges require mid-yr. report *Colleges can de-admit/rescind/ acceptance is conditional

23 Freshman Profile What is it? Each college will provide you with their middle 50% admissions statistics- GPA, Test Scores, Etc.

27 Match-Reach-Safety Schools Match Schools: A match school is one in which your transcript mirrors that of the average freshman. Therefore, your GPA, SAT/ACT scores and coursework (college prep, honors, etc.) are all on par with those undergrads typically admitted. While this will not guarantee an acceptance (especially considering that extracurricular activities, essays, etc. will come into play), you can apply with confidence and the understanding that you have a great shot. Reach Schools: Unlike a match, reach schools are colleges where your academic qualifications are below the average accepted student. When considering a reach school, it s still important to be realistic. It s quite unlikely you would gain entry to an Ivy League university with a 1.5 GPA. However, even if your SATs might be 100 points lower than average or you have a 3.4 GPA instead of a 3.8, if you really like the school, throw your hat into the ring. You never know what will happen. It could be a long shot but an admissions officer might just see your potential. Safety Schools: As you ve probably deduced by now, a safety school is one in which your academic credentials exceed those of the average accepted student. Consequently, there is a high probability that you will be admitted (though it s important to recognize that nothing is certain).

28 It s Okay to Transfer If you apply to a reach school, and are denied, you can always apply to transfer. Your college diploma will reflect the LAST school that you attend.

34 College Entrance Requirements University System of Georgia (USG) 4 units English 4 units of mathematics, including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and a 4th unit of advanced math, or equivalent courses 4 units of science, including Biology and Physics/Physical Science; 3 units of specified social science courses (World History, US History, American Government, Economics) 2 units of the same world language In addition, different types of institutions (research universities, regional universities, state universities) require additional, more rigorous academic units.

ISDS What? Why? When? ISDS is a seal affixed to your diploma which seniors are eligible for, upon completion of the proper requirements and a Capstone presentation.
