2 1. Background School sector (primary and secondary education) is facing a leadership deficit. It is well documented that after quality of teacher, quality of leadership is the most important factor to explain the learning achievement of students in school. It is in this background that IIM Ranchi and Shikshangan are jointly conducting a 5-day School Leader s Program during 27 June to 1 July 2016 at Ranchi. 2. Objectives of the program The five-day MDP for School Principals aims: To develop the personal leadership of the participants To inspire the participants to acquire academic leadership To facilitate the participants in developing the organizational leadership 3. Program Modules The School Leader s Program (SLP) is organized into three buckets: Personal Leadership (Building personal effectiveness) Academic Leadership (Understanding the domain of education) Organizational Leadership (Leading the team towards the organizational goals) 2

Broad Contents of the Program The following are the broad contents of the program: Understanding Self and Others Creating a Vision and Designing Strategies Leadership Decision Making Leading and Managing Teams Managing Stakeholders Transformational Leadership Assertiveness Effective Communication: Listening, Speaking and Writing Effective Meetings and Planning Managing Change Through Persuasion Recruiting Right People, helping them to develop and creating a motivating environment Personal branding, making effective presentations and creating awareness of the school Effective Time Management Re-visiting educational aims Translating educational aims into curriculum Understanding latest research on how children learn Tracking student learning and feeding it back to teaching Building an effective school 3

Programme Details Programme Fee: INR 48,000 plus 14.5% Service tax i.e INR 54,960 (includes the course material, accommodation and board expenses of the participants). 5% discount would be given to those participants who register their participation by remitting the program fee by May 31, The discounted program fee inclusive of service tax to those participants who register their participation by remitting the program fee by May 31, 2016 is INR 52,212 per participant. 10% discount shall be given to those organization s which nominate 3 or more participants. The discounted program fee inclusive of service tax to those organizations which nominate 3 or more participants is INR 49,464 per participant. 6 Dr. Bijaya Mishra holds a Doctoral Degree in Management from IIT Delhi. She has vast experience in the field of management. She is an avid teacher, researcher and thinker. Her publications in critical areas of management are published in a number of high quality international journals and she had been invited to present her research in AIT Bangkok, and University of Malaysia. She was offered fellowship for her research by UGC and ICSSR. She is also a high impact trainer. Dr. Shilpee A Dasgupta is an Assistant Professor in Business Communication (General Management Area) in Indian Institute of Management Ranchi. She has been working in management and technical institutions like Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna and Haldia Institute of Technology. She has also served as Media Chairperson at Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna. A communication consultant, Dr Dasgupta has been associated with various training programmes. She has been a gold medallist in B. A. She earned her Ph D from IIT Kharagpur in 2012 and she specializes and publishes in the area of Communication Studies. Her recent research publications in peer reviewed international journals have been cited in manuscripts of national and international repute. She is also a member of Editorial Board of Amity Journal of Management Research Profile of the Programme Directors from IIM-Shikshangan Mr. Vijay Gupta has done his BTech from IIT, Kanpur, followed by MBA from IIM, Bangalore. He has worked with Wipro Corporation for over 15 years, handling diverse assignments. He has also headed Wipro s initiative in the area of quality school education, and has been associated with Azim Premji Foundation. He has co- founded Shikshangan Education Initiatives with Devika. 6

7 Ms. Devika Nadig has done her MA in English from Jabalpur, followed by BEd from Mumbai University. Apart from teaching English in ICSE schools, she has headed a private English medium school in Pune from K-12. Devika has been involved in teacher training for the past more than a decade, and had founded Sparsh, a teacher resource centre in Pune for training teachers. She is now the cofounder of Shikshangan Education Initiatives and her current work with teachers and leaders spans schools across the country. 7
