Director of Chinese University Relations, Recruitment & Admissions Position Summary: The China Education Initiative is excited to announce that we are now recruiting for a Beijing-based Director of Chinese University Relations, Recruitment & Admissions. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to design and implement a comprehensive recruiting & admissions strategy aimed at identifying, cultivating, and inspiring outstanding prospects to apply to and join CEI s Teaching Fellowship program. In this role, the Director will also be responsible for overseeing the interview, selection, assignment and matriculation process of participants, as well as for cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with Chinese universities. Regular travel to Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong will be required. CEI affords an opportunity to work as part of a cross-cultural team, within a nascent successful non-profit environment. About The China Education Initiative: Established in 2008 under the auspices of the Ford Foundation, Princeton University, and Tsinghua University, CEI is an innovative non-profit organization taking a unique approach to eliminating educational inequity in China by enlisting the US and China's most promising future leaders in the effort. Through the institution of a US-China Teaching Fellows program, CEI meets the pressing need for exceptional teachers in China's understaffed low-income rural schools, while fostering a constituency of young leaders positioned to advance the cause of educational equity and effect long-term systemic change. The China Education Initiative: Provides exceptional and enthusiastic teachers to schools in need. CEI recruits, trains, and supports outstanding graduates from premiere Chinese and US universities, assigning them as Teaching Fellows to twoyear posts in understaffed low-income schools; Works at the forefront of China-US relations as the first and only program to pair Chinese and American university graduates in a long-term service initiative; Promotes cross-cultural collaboration by partnering US and Chinese Teaching Fellows in four-person teams (2 US and 2 Chinese Fellows), and connecting their economically disadvantaged and often socially isolated students to a world outside yet intimately linked to their own communities; Fosters an internationally connected cohort of young leaders who understand firsthand the challenges facing students in low-income Chinese communities, and who share the insight and conviction to advance the cause of educational equity. 3
4 Global & National Partnerships CEI works closely with a network of renowned US, Chinese, and international partners, and is: Working in collaboration with Teach For All, a Teach For America-affiliated global program; The first non-governmental accredited full-time teacher sourcing channel in China, as designated by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education; Drawing on Princeton in Asia's more than 100 years of experience as a partner institution; Working in partnership with China's premiere teaching training and pedagogy research institution, Beijing Normal University, and with the Dartmouth College Teacher Education Program, to implement a comprehensive teacher training and support system; PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES University Relations & Recruiting Develop and oversee the recruitment strategy Set and meet recruitment goals that are closely aligned to larger organizational objectives Hire, train, and support a team of high-performing Recruitment Associates, and Campus Representatives who have the skills needed to be successful in a fastpaced, and results-oriented environment Identify, cultivate, and influence top students to apply to and join the organization Build and maintain relationships with student leaders, administrators, faculty members, career service representatives, advisors, and other key gatekeepers to help execute an effective recruitment campaign Communicate effectively with diverse audiences to deliver a compelling vision tailored to their motivations and interests Implement and track recruitment strategies designed to increase mass visibility on campus Admissions Design a selection process (including defining selection competencies and application design) Manage selection research agenda to inform future changes to the model and process and analyze selection data in order to determine correlations with student outcome data Set ambitious matriculation goals and develop Develop strategies and benchmark goals to support selection and matriculation goals Design and execute training for selection committee and assess selector accuracy Develop and manage strategy for quality control on selection decisions (Utilize data to ensure team is using rigorous logic in all decision-making) Write high-impact external communications (acceptance letter, etc) QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS Bachelor s degree required, master s degree preferred Ability and desire to work in a entrepreneurial, fastpaced, deadline-driven, and results-oriented environment Ability to set goals and strategies, and effectively use data to guide actions Proven success in managing teams to achieve ambitious results Previous experience in teaching or training others Previous experience in managing operations Comfortable working with databases and analyzing data Proven ability to develop and leverage relationships Ability to create clear and focused work products in undefined areas Strong organization skills Exceptional verbal and non-verbal communication skills; strong English Language skills preferred Willingness to travel and work on weekends and evenings, when required 4

6 II. Director of External Relations Position Summary: The China Education Initiative is excited to announce that we are now recruiting for a Beijing-based Director of External Relations. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to take responsibility for developing and executing CEI s overall external relations and fundraising strategies. The Director will work closely with the CEO to develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including government bodies (national and provincial), corporations, universities, NGOs, and private donor organizations. The Director will also work closely with other CEI managers to facilitate their work by cultivating the necessary external relationships and support. Regular travel to Hong Kong, the US, and Yunnan Province will be required. CEI affords an opportunity to work as part of a cross-cultural team, within a nascent successful non-profit environment. 8 III. Director of Training Position Summary: The China Education Initiative (CEI) is excited to announce that we are now recruiting for a Beijing- or Kunming-based Director of Training. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to set and implement the vision, goals, and strategy for CEI s comprehensive Training and Support Program. The position will require overseeing the planning and execution of the Summer Training Program (STP), developing models to evaluate teacher effectiveness and student impact, and working with a team of managers and program staff to provide feedback and training assistance to the Fellows during their two year Fellowship. This role also ensures alignment and progress towards overarching training priorities. Regular travel to Yunnan (if Beijing-based), or Beijing (if Kunming-based) will be required.
