1 REGISTRATION PROCEDURES INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS 1. Definition of an Independent School for purposes of registration with SACAI a. Any institution that enrols ANY Grade between Gr 1 to 12 with face-to-face tuition on campus AND b. The institution is registered by the Provincial Education Department AND c. The institution has applied for accreditation with UMALUSI, and is published on the Green List. 2. Registration Application a. Complete the registration form b. Apply for subjects to be offered c. Evidence of staff qualifications and an example of a service contract has to be provided d. The school will receive an of confirmation of receipt of application form. 3. Final Registration a. Accreditation status with UMALUSI will be confirmed b. The school will receive an invoice for registration and a contract to be signed c. SACAI reserves the right to deny the registration of a school based on a prior record of non-compliance. 4. Deregistration by SACAI Any Independent School can be deregistered if: The school fails to comply with the expectations and requirements of: a. The school fails to discharge its financial commitments to SACAI, or fails to comply with any or all of the School Based Assessment Programme and Requirements as outlined in the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS) for specific subjects; the SACAI guidelines; the SACAI / UMALUSI moderation reports; the Regulations Pertaining to the Conduct, Administration and Management of Assessment for the National Senior Certificate; The National Policy Pertaining to the Programme and Promotion Requirements of the National Curriculum Statement Grades R-12; and The National Protocol for Assessment. 1

The school is deregistered by the provincial education department or placed on Umalusi s red list for valid reasons, including but not limited to failure to comply with the prescripts and requirements of The South African Schools Act.
