All applicants called for interview must have completed results of 2-Year MA or equivalent degree from any university/institute recognized by the UGC. 2. Applicants who have obtained an MA or equivalent degree of less than two (2) years duration, must have completed at least a total of five (5) years of under-graduate and post-graduate study in a recognized university/institute. 3. An applicant shall not be considered for admission (even if selected after written test and interview) if (i) s/he is already enrolled in a Ph.D. programme in any other university/institute or in any other department of Jadavpur University. (ii) s/he is pursuing 2-Year M.Phil in the relevant subjects and/or has submitted M.Phil dissertations but either the viva-voce on her/his dissertation has not been conducted on or before June 30, 2016, or has failed in the viva-voce examination. 4. M.Phil students of Jadavpur University who have successfully defended their viva-voce examinations and have valid Continuing UGC Fellowship (NET-JRF/RGNF/Moulana Azad and the like) may be considered under Continuing Fellowship Holder category provided they have not registered themselves in any other course in Jadavpur University or in any other university/institute after completing their M.Phil degrees at Jadavpur University. The gap period between the date of publication of Final M.Phil result and registration/enrollment in the Ph.D. programme (if selected) must NOT be more than one year. 5. As per circular Nos. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt.06/08/1984 & BCD-1, D.O.12017/11/89- SCD(R.CELL) dt.09/01/1990 and letter No.1510-SCW dt.31/05/2007 of the Government of West Bengal, the Scheduled Castes/ the Scheduled Tribes of the states other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in educational institutions in West Bengal unless they can produce Domicile Certificate as a proof for residing in West Bengal for at least 10 years issued by the competent authority. 6. A candidate applying for seat reserved for the OBC- A/ OBC- B category (wherever applicable) must produce an OBC certificate (the issue date of which should not be earlier than June 2015) issued by the competent authority that clearly indicates (i) the category (A or B) he/she belongs to; (ii) that he/she does not belong to creamy layer of the society. Without submission of such an appropriate certificate, the applicant shall NOT be considered for seats reserved for OBC-A/OBC-B category. As per the rules of Government of West Bengal, the OBC-A and OBC-B candidates of the states other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in educational institutions in West Bengal unless they can produce Domicile Certificate as a proof for residing in West Bengal for at least 10 years issued by the competent authority.

OTHERWISE HE/SHE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO APPEAR IN THE INTERVIEW AND MUST APPEAR IN THE WRITTEN ADMISSION TEST. SIMILARLY, AN APPLICANT WHO HAS SUCCESSFULLY APPEARED IN THE VIVA-VOCE ON HIS/HER M.PHIL DISSERTATION BUT RESULT OF WHICH HAS NOT YET BEEN PUBLISHED, MUST BRING IN (AT THE TIME OF INTERVIEW) A CERTIFICATE FROM HIS/HER HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT/ INSTITUTION CONFIRMING THAT ALL FORMALITIES HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. OTHERWISE HE/SHE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO APPEAR FOR THE INTERVIEW AND MUST APPEAR IN THE WRITTEN ADMISSION TEST.

THE CERTIFICATE FOR NON-CREAMY LAYER MUST NOT BE ISSUED BY THE COMPETENT AUTHORITY BEFORE JUNE, If the viva-voce on M.Phil dissertation of an applicant pursuing 2- Year M.Phil in the relevant subjects is conducted between the date of application and June 30, 2016, for and s/he has passed in the vivavoce examination, and/or an applicant has qualified for NET/SET between the date of application and June 30, 2016, s/he must submit the relevant documents (a certificate from the concerned Head of the Department in case of successful completion of viva-voce of M.Phil dissertation, and NET/SET result) to the Dean, Faculty Council of Arts, Jadavpur University on or before July 1, 2016, to be called for interview as per UGC Regulations Secretary (Officiating) Faculty Council of Arts
