2 Welcome Horizons 2018 Delegate! Congratulations, you re a Marauder now! McMaster will be your home for the next however-many years, and we re so excited that you ve decided to begin your undergraduate journey with us at Horizons. This conference is more than just your average weekend. From July 27th-29th, we will give you a taste of what McMaster has to offer you throughout your studies here. You ll have the opportunity to develop lifelong leadership skills, build a foundation for academic excellence and student involvement, and you will gain valuable insight into your peers, yourself and your future. Horizons will also be a place for you to build your networks. We will help you develop your social network by connecting you to peers in your faculty, residence, or program throughout conference events and activities. We will provide you with enthusiastic and trained up- per year leaders to help you prepare your support network. Finally, we will leave you with our Horizons network- a group of over 200 people with friendly faces who are going to be connected after this amazing weekend of fun, friends, leadership and self-discovery. Enclosed in this package is a brief introduction of what we will be doing for the 3 days you are with us. We on the Horizons Planning Team have worked tirelessly in order to bring you the best programming we could imagine. So take a read through and see what is in store. 3 IMPORTANT INFORMATION Delegates will have access to their phones throughout the weekend, but are discouraged from using them in session. If you need to get a hold of a delegate or something else comes up that affects your delegate and their Conference participation, you may contact the Conference Coordinator or the Volunteer and Logistics Coordinator at any time. Delegates, please provide these numbers to your emergency contacts and anyone else you feel should have them. Conference Coordinator Cell: Volunteer & Logistics Coordinator Cell: All conference staff and delegates will be staying on-campus in Les Prince Hall. Delegates will be sharing a traditional double room with a roommate of the same gender. Unless otherwise indicated, room and roommate assignments will be provided at the designated check-in time. Delegates will be provided all meals and snacks throughout the weekend. We are able to accommodate any dietary restrictions. If any information provided to us at the time of registration has changed, please us and let us know as soon as possible. If you are driving yourself to the conference and require a parking pass for the weekend, please let us know as soon as possible so that we may provide you with that upon arrival.

4 WHAT TO BRING Health Card (For your safety/security, you are required to bring your Health Card) Comfortable clothing/shoes for indoor and outdoor activities (You are required to wear the Horizons 2018 delegate t-shirt for the duration of the weekend) Gym shorts/pants with running shoes Umbrella/raincoat for inclement weather (alternate events are scheduled for rain, but we may be travelling in the rain) 2 pairs of Pyjamas (one for our Friday Night s Pyjama Party, and one to sleep in), socks, underwear Toiletries: a towel, toothbrush, shampoo, etc. (Accommodations include bed linens, a pillow and 1 towel) Any required medication A reusable water bottle to stay hydrated for the weekend Sun block and insect repellent (we may travel around dusk time) Optional: musical instruments for Saturday night jam session WHAT NOT TO BRING Valuables including jewellery and large amounts of money Valuable electronics Peanut and nut products Alcohol or drugs Weapons (including pocket knives) Horizons is NOT responsible any other lost or stolen items.

6 DROP OFF Please drop off your delegates at Les Prince Hall on Friday, July 27th from 11:00am- 12:00pm. You can find directions to Les Prince Hall by clicking here. We will have volunteers at Sterling and University to help guide you through campus. FROM TORONTO, OAKVILLE, BURLINGTON (TO CENTRAL CAMPUS) Take Highway 403 to the Main Street West exit. At the traffic lights at the top of the ramp turn left and then immediately right on Newton Avenue. Continue to King Street. Cross King Street on to Sterling Street and proceed up Sterling to the McMaster campus. FROM THE NIAGARA PENINSULA Follow the Queen Elizabeth Way over the Skyway Bridge as though going to Toronto. Take Highway 403 towards Hamilton and exit as described above in the directions for coming from Toronto. FROM KITCHENER/WATERLOO Take Highway 8 to the Town of Dundas. Proceed along King Street straight through the town and this will become Highway 102 (Cootes Drive). We recommend entering campus from Main Street and following Forsythe Avenue to Sterling into McMaster Campus. FROM BRANTFORD AND LONDON From Brantford travel on Highway 2 until Highway 403. Take Highway 403 to the Aberdeen Street exit. Proceed along Longwood Road to King Street. Turn left at King Street and go to the second traffic light. For entrance to the East Campus turn right onto Sterling Street and proceed along Sterling to McMaster University.

7 PICK UP Delegates will be ready to be picked up from Les Prince Hall at McMaster on Sunday, July 29h at 5:00pm. Lot H will open at 5:00pm sharp for parents/guardians to park in for free as you wait for your delegate. You may also find your way to campus by following the instructions from above. Using Public Transit? McMaster has an on-campus GO station! For information on the bus schedules that come right on campus, please click here. If you plan on arriving via a GO bus, please let us know so that we may arrange for volunteers to guide you to Les Prince Hall. McMaster is also connected to local bus routes (HSR- Hamilton Street Railway). Routes 1A, 5A, 5C, 52 and 10 B-line all make their way on campus either from Main Street, or through campus. 8 CONFERENCE POLICIES ID TAGS AND ROOM KEYS Delegates must keep their ID tags and room keys with them at all times during the conference. Delegates will be charged $ for lost room keys. ZERO TOLERANCE FOR ALL ILLICIT DRUGS, ALCOHOL, WEAPONS AND SEXUAL ACTIVITY Possession of alcohol, illicit drugs, and weapons is strictly prohibited at all times. Engaging in sexual activity is prohibited. The conference will be operating on a ZERO tolerance policy; engaging in any of these behaviours will lead to a delegate being sent home at their own cost, as well as a notification of the early dismissal to the delegate s parents and/or guardians. RESPECT Delegates must be respectful at all times towards other delegates/staff and their views. DELEGATES MUST BE SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES Delegates must remain on university campus grounds at all times during the conference, and must always remain with their respective groups throughout the scheduled activities. LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS Horizons 2018 Conference Staff, McMaster University, and the McMaster Students Union are not responsible for any lost or stolen personal items. ABIDING BY RULES Delegates must adhere to curfew times as directed by conference staff, as well as rules set out by the Horizons Coordinator and as directed by the McMaster Student Code of Conduct. DAMAGE Delegates will be fined for any damage done to McMaster University property as a direct result of their actions. HAVE FUN! Above all else, delegates are required to have fun! Everyone attending the conference (both staff and delegate alike) must abide by these policies. This is a substance free weekend with a zero tolerance policy. Any delegates caught in possession of or under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be sent home at their own expense.
