1 Job Description Job Title: Location: Job Purposes: Background: Reporting To: Salary: Deputy Principal Thomas Hinderwell Primary Academy To support the Principal and SLT with the management and leadership of the Academy The David Ross Education Trust (DRET) is a growing network of academies with a geographical focus on Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire/ Humber region. The network is a mix of primary, secondary and special academies and a mix of those that have chosen to join DRET on conversion and those that are sponsored academies. Principal Spot salary on the DRET pay scale (equivalent to L9-13) Key Responsibilities To support the Principal with the overall management and leadership of the school including: Maintaining and promoting the aims and objectives for the school Establishing the policies through which they shall be achieved Managing staff and resources to that end Monitoring progress towards their achievement You are required to carry out the duties of the school teacher as set out in the current Schoolteachers Pay and Conditions Document The post requires you to teach pupils in the age range three to eleven years as required You are required to carry out such particular duties as set out in the Pay and Conditions Document, in relation to your role as Deputy Principal Purpose of the post You are required to undertake the following responsibilities to work in close co-operation with the Principal: To establish and further the development of the school To assist the Principal in the day-to-day running of the school To deputise for the Principal in her absence To liaise with the Principal, Governors and staff To assist the Principal formulating the aims and objectives of the school and establishing the policies through which they shall be achieved Managing staff and resources to fulfil aims and objectives Monitoring and evaluating progress towards the successful achievement of the policies To work co-operatively with colleagues in the implementation of the School Improvement Deputy Principal Job Description and Person Specification 1

2 Plan and support the school aims and ethos School Improvement Plan To be an active member of a Senior Leadership Team Key Duties and Responsibilities At all times to support the Principal loyally To deputise in the absence of the Principal To set a high standard professionally and personally and to set a good example To actively discuss school policy and staff development with the Principal (NB: two way process) and to be part of the School Leadership Team To support the Principal on a day-to-day basis regarding issues relating to discipline, with regard to agreed policy and practice To take curricular responsibility for (to be decided when post commences) and lead the subjects throughout the school To support the Principal in order to co-ordinate the duties and responsibilities of other members of staff and encourage their career and personal development To carry out extra-curricular duties that are reasonable and practicable To assist when required in some areas of administration and to be familiar with some aspects of the finance system To organise timetables and day-to-day rotas etc. and to ensure that they are implemented To be responsible for the induction of new staff across the school To act as mentor for NQT staff in the school Leadership To extend understanding and further insight into the annual cycle of School Improvement Planning, to fully participate in its preparation and monitor its implementation in order to promote good teaching and learning To recognise the financial implications of the whole School Improvement Plan To support the work of the administration team To support the Principal on management of staff to enable effective curriculum delivery To liaise with the school s SENco regarding vulnerable groups of pupils progress and initiate intervention to support them where necessary To regularly meet with teaching assistants, keeping them up-dated with developments within school and monitoring their contribution to teaching and learning. To demonstrate good practice in terms of planning (long term/medium term/short term), teaching and learning, and pupil behaviour management To be a pro-active member of the School Leadership Team to both direct and guide professional dialogue and discussion To be alert to potential for improvement and innovation within the school, and take the initiative in its implementation Leadership team responsibilities Attend Leadership meetings with the Leadership Team to effect policies throughout the school.
