2 General Guidelines cum Information for Admission to Ph.D. Programmes 1. Application for admission to Ph.D. Programmes at HBTU, Kanpur for the session is to be made On-Line only. Candidates are required to fill the online application form through the website during May 25, 2018 to June 15, There is no age limit for candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. programme. 3. Candidates are advised to read these guidelines carefully and check their eligibility before filling and submitting the online application form. If a candidate, who is not eligible for admission, will not have any claim whatsoever, for admission to Ph.D. programme at HBTU, Kanpur. 4. Accepting admission in HBTU, Kanpur implies acceptance by the candidate and his/her parents or guardians with all the provisions. Any change in the rules, regulations, fee and special conditions etc. of the University shall mutatis mutandis apply to the admitted candidate. 5. Candidates claiming advantage of reserved categories are required to indicate in the Online application form, and are not required to send any certificate to the University at this stage. However, these certificates, in original, will have to be produced at the time of interview along with one self attested copy of each one of them. Various formats of these certificates to be submitted at the time of reporting are available on the admission website. These formats are subjected to change even upto the date of admission, as per the orders of Govt. of Uttar Pradesh. It is important to note that the certificate for OBC candidate will be entertained only if it is issued on or after (mandatory due to condition of creamy layer for OBC). 6. The candidate, in respect of whom the result of the qualifying examination has not been declared till the date of the interview, due to any reason whatsoever, shall not be eligible for admission under any circumstances. 7. If any document/declaration submitted by the candidate is found to be false at any stage, his/her admission shall be cancelled and he/she may be liable for prosecution under the law. In case of any legal dispute, the jurisdiction will be limited to Kanpur courts only. 8. In case of any deficiency in application form, it is likely to be rejected, and sole responsibility of its consequences will be on the candidate, and representation in this regard will not be entertained. 9. The fee for Ph.D. Registration is Rs. 2000/- (non-refundable).

3 10. The academic fee for admission to First year Ph.D. programme is Rs 55, (Rs. Fifty Five Thousand Five Hundred only). 11. The academic fee paid by the candidate after the allotment of seat will be forfeited, and will not be refunded under any circumstances, if the candidate does not report for the admission at HBTU, Kanpur. 12. Reservation of the seats will be as per U.P. Govt guidelines. 13. Written examination and interviews for the admission to the Ph.D programmes will be conducted at HBTU, Kanpur as per schedule. 14. All information in connection with Ph.D. Admission, 2018 shall be made through the University website The candidates are advised to visit the website regularly/frequently failing to which HBTU, Kanpur will not be responsible for any loss due to the lack of communication. Details of Ph.D. Programmes offered, intake and eligibility criteria I. Programmes Offered The University offers the following doctoral programmes. Category of Research Scholars: 1. Full Time Research Scholars 2. Sponsored Research Scholars 3. Part-time Research Scholars 4. Quality Improvement Program (QIP) The details of Ph.D. programmes as mentioned above are defined below: - 1. Full Time: A Research Scholar in this category works full-time to pursue his/her Ph.D. He/she will be eligible to receive Assistantship / Scholarship from the University, or any other recognized funding agency as per the rules. In case of non-availability of financial assistance the candidate shall have to meet the expenditure of doing research work on his / her own. The grant of financial assistance from any source does not entitle the candidate for exemption from tuition fee and other prescribed fees of University unless such exemption is specifically granted in the assistance scheme, and the fees as applicable are provided to the University by the agency extending financial support to the candidate.

Sponsored: A Research Scholar in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, Academic Institution, Government Organization, Research Laboratory or Industry for pursuing Ph.D. in the University on a full-time basis. Such students will be required to submit a Sponsorship Certificate from their respective Organization along with their GPF / CPF Contribution proof. The University shall not provide any assistantship/ scholarship to such Research Scholar and the applicable University fees and expenditure on pursuing research work shall be remitted by the sponsoring organization to the University. Research Scholars under this scheme shall be treated as full-time candidates. 3. Part-time: A candidate working in a research centre recognized by the University, Regular/ Contractual faculty members of this University / Employees working in Govt. / Govt. aided / Private Engineering colleges / Universities / Industries / Public sector organizations shall be considered for the admission under this category and their organization is situated within 100 km of radial distance from HBTU, Kanpur. All such candidates have to submit No-Objection Certificate from their employer at the time of interview. The eligible Faculty / Staff members of the University shall be treated as Part Time Research Scholars. 4. Quality Improvement Program (QIP): QIP provides opportunities to faculty members of the Degree-level Engineering Institutions to improve their qualifications by admitting them to Ph.D. Degree programme as per the rules prescribed in the QIP Scheme of MHRD, Govt. of India. Research Scholars under this scheme shall be treated as full time candidates.

Chemistry Physics Mathematics Economics Management Eligibility (i) M. Tech. / M. E. Degree in relevant discipline with a minimum of 60 % marks or equivalent CGPA/ CPI (ii) Candidates having B. Tech. degree with minimum 75% marks with 2 years professional experience. (iii) MCA degree with a minimum of 60 % marks or equivalent CGPA/CPI for MCA Stream (Eligible for pursuing Ph.D. in relevant Engineering Departments ) (i) M. Tech. / M. E. degree in relevant discipline with a minimum of 60 % marks or equivalent CGPA / CPI. (ii) Candidates having B. Tech. degree with minimum 75% marks with 2 years professional experience. (i) M. Sc. degree in relevant discipline with a minimum of 55 % marks or equivalent CGPA / CPI (ii) Candidates with M. Sc degree with minimum 55% marks in Chemistry/ Industrial Chemistry/ Applied / Bio Technology or equivalent, for Doctoral Degree in respective branch of Chemical Technology/Chemical Engineering for degree in Applied Chemistry Master's degree in relevant discipline with a minimum of 55 % marks or equivalent CGPA / CPI Procedure of Ph.D. admission: 1. There will be a multiple choice objective nature test for candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. programme of the University. The candidates will have to appear in two papers. 2. The syllabi for paper-i shall be of GATE/GPAT/NET/CAT, and on the respective subject domains. The paper shall be of 90 minutes duration and shall contain 60 multiple choice type questions from the subject.

The contents of the Paper-II will have the thrust on testing the skills of Data Interpretation, Language Proficiency, Reasoning and Logic Design, Research Aptitude etc. Paper-II shall also be of 90 minutes and shall contain 60 multiple choice type questions. 4. The final admission of the entrance qualified candidates shall be done on the basis of interview and as per their ranks in the combined assessment of Paper-I and Paper-II. 5. Admission to Ph.D. Programme will be made as per the rules prescribed by the Notes:- University from time to time. Admission will be made through written test (Weightage: 80%), followed by a Personal Interview (Weightage: 20%). The students securing minimum of 50% marks in Written Examination will qualify for Interview. Students who have qualified UGC NET/JRF/M.Phil. in their discipline, will be given preference in Interview. 1. If in any of the qualifying examination University awards only grades without providing an equivalent percentage of marks on the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the University specifying equivalent marks, and submit it at the time of interview. In case, such a certificate is not provided by the candidate, the decision of the Admission Committee regarding his/her eligibility shall be final. 2. In the eligibility criteria, relaxation of 5% in respective qualifying degree marks (without including the grace mark procedures) will be given to OBC/SC/ST/PH category. 3. Distribution of Ph.D. seats in each department is as follows: i) One seat is for Part-time Research Scholar. ii) One seat for Sponsored Category iii) Remaining 3 Nos. seats for Full time Research Scholar 4. In case of non availability of part-time/ sponsored candidates, vacant seats will filled by Full Time candidates.
