ART SKETCHES Newsletter November 2015 President s Patter Hello everyone, Fall Member s Show November 4 December 19 Fall into Creativity, is now in the gallery. This exhibit is a wonderful example of the talent and variety within our organization. First Place: Sarah Creason, Walk in the Woods, oil on canvas Second Place: Elizabeth Wamsley, Fish Are Jumping, clay Third Place: Ann Peperak, Old Crystal Mill, watercolor Stop in and see this show! Our Member s Show is currently in the gallery and is another great example of the creativity within our organization. Our Christmas Boutique begins November 21 with many hand crafted, one of a kind, items for sale. This is an excellent time to purchase Christmas gifts. November 23, 7pm, is the annual members meeting. New board members for 2016 will be elected to replace Darla McCammon, Laurie Schotz, and Dave Taylor whose terms have expired. November 28 is Small Business Saturday and the Lakeland Art Gallery will be hosting Santa Claus from 11 1pm and making Christmas ornaments from 2 4pm. This promises to be a great time with kids young and old. For those wishing to challenge their creative spirit we will host a Whimsical Christmas Tree workshop Dec 5th, 2-4pm. December 19th the gallery closes until February We will then open the Lakeland Art Center at 302 E Winona Ave in Warsaw. See you at the gallery, Melodie

5 . Who Done It!!! The following LAA members had work accepted in the prestigious annual juried exhibit at Elkhart. 153 artists had work accepted. Steve Creighton two oils Wayne Harshberger two sculptures Ann Peperak one water color Elizabeth Wamsley one ceramic Ann Peperak got into Heartland Artist Show, Plymouth, and won 3 purchase awards. Steve Creighton won Best of Show at the Grant Co. show. He also has work in the "37th Elkhart Juried Regional" show at the Midwest Museum of Art in Elkhart IN. Lisa Beemish has Artwork at hanging at the Warsaw IVY Tech. Lisa also teaches many workshops. Mission Statement The mission of the Lakeland Art Association is to further the visual arts in Kosciusko County by challenging the creative spirit of local artists and community residents. LAA strives to nurture its artist members through opportunities for camaraderie, skill development, the sharing of creative endeavors, and public exhibits. LAA is also committed to encouraging the next generation of artists and potential art enthusiasts by promoting and supporting visual arts education and events.

We are now accepting memberships for Membership includes a page on our web site and face book exposure, a complimentary subscription to our Art Sketches newsletter, reduced fees on show entries, space to exhibit in our gallery via our member s wall and gift shop, opportunities to exhibit at area venues through the Lakeland Art Association, the opportunity to share and learn art techniques and last but not least, camaraderie of other artists. Listen: Listen for a Chance to Win a Grant for Your Favorite Local Charity Be listening November to WRSW FM and Willie FM for your chance to recommend a Community Foundation grant, in your honor, for the local charity of your choice. In celebration of National Philanthropy Week, the Community Foundation will be hosting a Philanthropy Radio Quiz Show on WRSW at 7:40 a.m. and on Willie at 8:40 a.m. The listener to call in with the correct answer to a quiz question can recommend a grant, in their honor, to a charity serving Kosciusko County. Last year, the Community Foundation awarded grants in honor of the radio quiz show winners to Animal Welfare League, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Combined Community Services, Magical Meadows, Our Father's House and more! Raffle: Member John Streeter has given the gallery a beautiful pastel painting to raffle. The money earned will go to our general fund which enables us to continue hosting quality fine art exhibits, workshops, and the monthly programs we offer. Volunteer Opportunities Volunteers are a valuable commodity. The Lakeland Art Association could not function with out them.
