THE WORLD S LEADING ARTS COMMUNICATION CONFERENCE LANDS IN BRUSSELS After a successful 19 th edition in Los Angeles in November 2017, the Communicating the Museum (CTM) conference is coming to Brussels from 27 to 31 May The 20 th edition of CTM, the rendez-vous for communication professionals working in the cultural sector, will be hosted by Brussels leading cultural institutions. Brussels Centre for Fine Arts, BOZAR, is the main host of the conference. BOZAR will welcome the participants, share its expertise and open the doors to its temporary exhibitions on 28 and 29 May. Paul Dujardin, CEO & Artistic Director; Sophie Lauwers, Head of Exhibitions; and Johan Van Roy, Head of Marketing and Communication, will step on stage to share the Centre s mission and visitor strategy. The Royal Museum of Fine Arts, the House of European History, Wiels, KANAL Centre Pompidou and many other cultural institutions will host social events, visits and workshops from May. Across a five-day programme of debates, workshops, talks and tours, participants will discover the best museum participation initiatives, the most challenging collaborations, and the most insightful successes (and failures) in the fields of communications, education and audience engagement. 2 THEME The theme for CTM BRU is Are you ready to participate?. Today s museums are working towards being more inclusive, encouraging participation and a greater diversity of audiences, ideas and perspectives. For visitors to feel empowered, cultural institutions must be safe spaces to meet and engage with the art but also with the community. From community-oriented small museums to large-scale hands-on exhibitions in larger institutions, we are witnessing a heightened importance in active engagement with audiences. Challenges remain as museums strive to meet with their audiences in genuinely participatory ways. The pressure is on museums to be more representative and to embrace community involvement. Read Jan Boelen s interview on participation SPEAKERS Agenda has selected a panel of 50+ local and international speakers including leaders from the museum and art sector such as Daphné Blouet, Audience Development Manager, Louvre Abu Dhabi, UAE; Jan Boelen, Artistic Director of Atelier Luma, France; Lauren Hesse, Social Media Producer, The Met, USA; James Brandon, Diversity and Inclusion Manager, Tate, UK; Kajsa Hartig, Business Developer and Digital Strategist, Nordiska Museet, Sweden; and Thomas Bastien, Director of Education and Wellness, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Canada. The directors of Brussels leading cultural institutions will step on stage to present their engagement strategies and best practices including Paul Dujardin, CEO & Artistic Director of BOZAR; Constance Itzel, Director of the House of European History; Yves Goldstein, Head of Mission at KANAL Centre Pompidou; Isabelle Douillet, Head Curator of Brussels City Museum and Raphael Cruyt, Co-Founder of MIMA, the Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art. From outside industries, Hans Renman, Founder and CEO of LS GROUP and Scandinavian Education will present transformative schooling models. Wietse Van Ransbeeck, co-founder of CitizenLab will help CTMBRU participants become more participatory.
