Downtown New Orleans Dear Sustaining Fellows, I invite you to join me on a journey to the city known as the Big Easy, the Crescent City, and even America s Most Interesting City: New Orleans.

I look forward to introducing you to this legendary city s art, history, and, of course, music and entertainment particularly this year as New Orleans celebrates its 300th anniversary.

Proudly held traditions and a blend of French, Spanish, African, Caribbean, and American influences come together to make New Orleans a truly unique destination. I look forward to introducing you to this legendary city s art, history, and, of course, music and entertainment particularly this year as New Orleans celebrates its 300th anniversary. Opportunities to explore and learn about art are available around nearly every corner in New Orleans, from the streets and parks to the many festivals and installations throughout the city. Our travels will take us from premier private collections of photography and contemporary art to world-renowned museums, including the New Orleans Museum of Art the oldest fine arts museum in the city where we will see treasures from its encyclopedic collection of photography with curator of photography Russell Lord. Visits with influential local artists, gallerists, and architects will further shape our understanding of this dynamic city s ever-evolving artistic legacy. Along the way, we ll indulge in the bold dining experiences that have made New Orleans a gastronomic destination for decades. Cutting-edge new French cuisine, traditional Creole cooking, and, of course, beignets at Café du Monde are just a sample of the flavors that await us. I hope you ll join me! View Lee Ledbetter and Douglas Meffert s private collection of ceramics and contemporary photography in their midcentury modernist home, a standout amid their neighborhood s Victorian homes. Dine at the James Beard Award winning Shaya, where Israeli staples are married with Southern flavors and modern techniques. Ogden Museum of Southern Art SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20 Visit the French Quarter to view a private collection in a one-of-akind Victorian home famous for its distinctive architectural elements. Learn about the visual arts and culture of the American South at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and enjoy a curator-led tour of the museum s upcoming special exhibition New Southern Photography.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21 Discover photographic marvels at the Historic New Orleans Collection, a museum and research center dedicated to preserving the history and culture of New Orleans. Take a guided tour of Crescent Park, which offers breathtaking views of New Orleans and is home to the David Adjaye designed Piety Bridge. Before departing, enjoy lunch at the celebrated Emeril s Restaurant, a definitive force in contemporary New Orleans cuisine. MEET THE CURATOR Elizabeth Siegel Curator of Photography Liz began her career at the Art Institute of Chicago as a research assistant in 1998 and has risen through the ranks to become curator of

5 MEET THE CURATOR Elizabeth Siegel Curator of Photography Liz began her career at the Art Institute of Chicago as a research assistant in 1998 and has risen through the ranks to become curator of photography. She received her undergraduate degree from Yale University and her PhD from the University of Chicago. Liz has curated more than 20 exhibitions, including, most recently, The Photographer s Curator: Hugh Edwards at the Art Institute of Chicago, and Alfred Stieglitz and the 19th Century, which were accompanied by award-winning websites; Shatter Rupture Break, an exhibition bringing together modern work from across the Art Institute; and Abelardo Morell: The Universe Next Door, a retrospective that traveled to the J. Paul Getty Museum and the High Museum of Art. In addition to exhibition catalogues, her books include Taken by Design: Photography at the Institute of Design, and Galleries of Friendship and Fame: A History of 19th-Century American Photograph Albums.
