BELLINGEN Bellingen Music Festival Concert and Composition Commission in 2014 of a new composition by composer Andrew Batt-Rawden for the Bellingen Youth Orchestra (BYO) with concurrent workshops in Bellingen in composition, performance and professional pathways. The Acacia Quartet will join the BYO in its premiere at the 2014 Bellingen Music Festival, play student HSC compositions, conduct a string master class, and give a separate concert. TAREE Forster Neighbourhood Centre FORSTER Art After Stroke and other conditions Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Tuncurry 'Art After Stroke and other conditions' is a 10 week art class for people who have had a stroke, traumatic brain injury or live with a neurological illness such as Parkinsons Disease. Forster Kempsey Shire Council Macleay River Lantern Project The project supports workshops with artists Claude and Margrit Teyssier to create large-scale lanterns representing the native animals and plants found in the Macleay to generate connections for the community to the valley. These lanterns will lead the exhibition at the Macleay River Festival in Sept Local artists and community members will join with their creations at the festival. KEMPSEY Kempsey Manning Entertainment Centre Live Sound Production Workshop To bring Live Sound Producers of international renown to the Mid North Coast, giving amateur and professional theatre workers from Forster to Coffs Harbour the opporunity to access high-quality practical and theoretical training over two days. Port Macquarie Wingham Akoostik Festival Akoostik Airborne Jill Watkins and 'Circartus' will develop, manage and direct an aerial and physical theatre performance for the October 2014 Akoostik festival located in Wingham on the Mid North Coast. Involves an intensive 5 day creative and skill development program delivered by guest aerial artists specializing in adagio/aerial skills working with a local cast already engaged in aerial skill development classes. WINGHAM Wingham Youth Directions Inc Make Space Make Space: leather workshop is a training environment created for participants who have recently immigrated to Coffs Harbour as humanitarian refugees. Local artist April Phillips will conduct the workshops weekly using the facilities of the North Coast Institute of TAFE. 3 Regional Arts Board: Arts North West Armidale Dumaresq Council ARMIDALE Backtrack Youth Works (Jobs Australia Armidale) ARMIDALE It's Not Graffiti: Turning Traffic Signal Boxes into Works of Art Strumming at the Shed The Armidale Dumaresq Council's Public Art Advisory Panel will employ two artists to hold workshops with two groups of young people from youth services such as BackTrack, EACH, and Pathfinders to design and paint the two traffic signal boxes located along the main thoroughfare through Armidale. The project will commence in February 2014 and be completed by October Armidale BackTrack Youth Works in Armidale will engage a musician-inresidence to deliver a series of guitar lessons to indigenous and non-indigenous youth. Participants will learn to play in a range of styles and will perform at a 'cafe concert' held at the New England Conservatorium of Music during mid The project will be creatively documented by BackTrack youth participants using a Flip Camera. Armidale Barraba Community Incorporated Frost Over Barraba Arts Festival Frost Over Barraba Arts Festival is a vibrant event with art exhibitions and a variety of opportunities for art experiences. Held over 4 days at the end of June over 8 venues in Barraba, a village of around 1500 people an hour north of Tamworth, Frost attracts more than 700 visitors from around the region. Demonstrations and workshops give opportunities for everyone to have a go. BARRABA Barraba Beyond Empathy Unhelica (beautiful and black) Elders of the Armidale community will work with ceramicist Myfanwy Gullifer to develop sculptural works that explore their perceptions and experiences of being beautiful and black. BOGGABRI Children's Book Council of Australia - NE & NW Sub-branch ARMIDALE Boggabri Art and Craft Exhibition Festival and 20th Birthday Celebration of the Sub-Branch Armidale Boggabri Art & Craft Exhibition will be held from Sat 19th - Sun 27th April 2014 at Merton St Boggabri. The exhibition will showcase the talents of local and regional artists and encourages all art forms. Armidale Nosh on the Namoi Inc. inoshfest Tyronne Curtis from Activate Entertainment will attend "Nosh on the Namoi" in 2014, running four 1.5hr long filmmaking workshops for young people aged 8-17years which have been crafted for young minds. Each participant will create an ifilm and a selection of the ifilms will be screened at the end of the day. Bathurst To bring an internationally recognised Visual Arts expert (Jumaadi) to a Symposium on WW II internment in Australia of civilian internees. Jumaadi will facilitate youth performances and the creation of a record representative of internees experiences and legacies. This symposium occurs from 6-16 March 2014 in Cowra folk@canowindra Opportunities Extended "Opportunities Extended" is a Concerts & Workshops Series hosted by folk@canowindra during Christina Mimmocchi, Dr Kim Cunio (Oscar & Marigold) and Colin Buchanan will perform special concerts with attending workshop/schools performances, with the aim of enhancing & extending the reach of folk@canowindra; as well as contributing to the cultural enrichment of the town & surrounds. Lake Cargelligo Lithgow City Band will run a series of three hour workshops in July/ August in Lithgow culminating in an end of workshop concert. Musicians from neighbouring bands will be invited to attend and participate. The goal of the workshops is to foster performance excellence at the same time furthering the exposure of newer members to public performance whilst musically enriching the local community Lithgow city This project will involve the community of Carcoar, both children and adults. We will research those from Carcoar who served in both World Wars, the Vietnam War and Afganistan, then paint their portraits within a battle setting to be exhibited permanently at the Carcoar Military Museum. This will take place in the hall at the school in Carcoar. Carcoar Funding for one of 60 professional regional musicians who, in partnership with a diversity of regional and community Choirs, will tour 6 rural and regional NSW communities during the 2014 season to perform the Beethoven s 9th Symphony ( a Choral Symphony) to country audiences that will include diverse groups of marginalized people from NSW rural/remote areas. Program 2014 Scone ADFAS promotes eight lectures yearly with ancillary arts related activities. ADFAS lecturers are mostly (6) from NADFAS (UK); some are Australian (2). They are all experts in their field and often curators of galleries or professionals who have written widely on their subjects. The topics range from furniture, music, gardens, art, travel, archaeology to literature and architecture. The trainer will also give a talk/performance on the artform. On location in Dungog shire, students will learn to listen, record and output their work, and be introduced to the notion of making a portrait of an environment (bush, town, room, life) in sound. 11 Shakespeare In Gloucester Festival Bell Shakespeare Workshops The 16th annual Shakespeare in Gloucester Festival to be held in May 2014 will be staging the play 'Merchant of Venice' performed by Stooged Theatre. To complement the performance James Evens, Bell Shakespeare's Resident Artist in Education, will be conducting a series of two hour workshops during the festival interpreting the Merchant of Venice and acting points. GLOUCESTER Gloucester Singleton Council Singleton Art House The Singleton Council supports local artists, who participate in an Arts Festival every two years. We wish to provide more ongoing support and provide artist workshops with a professional artist at the start of each year. Ideally up to four workshops will be open to all community members, to encourage skills development in budding artists and to enhance the technique of established artists. HARDEN IFinc Inc WAGGA WAGGA Bridge: The Inevitable Fall of old Mrs Truss Harden As the Hampden Bridge is demolished, this newly created fable tells the checkered tale of its demise. The project combines opera and rock in a live performance delivered in the style of an operatic mix-tape and culminates in a processions of wreaths floated down the Murrumbidgee, accompanied by horns blown on the banks. Held in April 2014, at the Sculpture Park, upstream from the Hampden Bridge. Wagga Wagga Lockhart Shire Council Above the Floodline Artist/designer Greg Anderson will work with the communities of The Rock and Lockhart to explore best practice exhibition design in the context of new structure, new museums, creative industry partnerships and multi artform expression.the two day residency adopts a whole of community and multi-disciplinary approach to sustainable and achievable interpretation and storytelling LOCKHART Riverina Summer School for Strings WAGGA WAGGA Playing by ear, improvisation and composition The WIRED Lab Ltd (G)Local Frequencies Project - (G)LFP MUTTAMA The Rock and Lockhart Chris Stone and Holly Downes, members of "The String Contingent", will give workshops in string improvisation and composition at the Riverina Summer School for Strings to 80 local and visiting volin, viola, cello and double bass students. Wagga Wagga (G)LFP is a CCD project including singing workshops. Throughout the project local singers will work with established musicians to learn harmonic signing techniques. Inspired by these skills & our local environs they will develop a composition to be performed at our biennial Wired Open Day. The project will workshop with a cross section of women resulting in a series of photos. The Taming of the Shrew A Storyteller will be engaged to work with refugee groups and seniors from Aged Care Homes to respond, through storytelling, to an object linked to their culture. These stories will be developed by the participants, with guidance from the storyteller, into shadow puppet plays that will be performed during the Write Around the Murray Festival Albury Four Tibetan Monks will be based in Civic Centre over 5 days to create a large sand mandala, conduct skill development workshops in Tibetan crafts (sky weaving, sand painting and chanting) and hold concert performances involving the community. A community sculpture (sky weaving) will be created by students, community members and local artists and be installed in Community Art Space. Corowa Environmental artist Michael Shiell will work with the parents and children of Glenroy Public School in Autumn and Spring of 2014 to design and create a sculptural dome within the school's Bush Camp Classroom. Using natural materials sourced from the area, the sculptural dome will be an organic structure that will create an intimate space for dreaming, talking, creating and working.
