A cohort of more than 30 arts educators, classroom teachers and school leaders from southern Maryland met in St. Mary's County for the first week of the 2017 Maryland Centers for Creative Classrooms. Visual art rooms were overflowing with work created by arts and non-arts educators, bodies moved through the gym space, and hallways were filled with sounds of vocal and instrumental music. 3 Job Opportunity at the Kennedy Center: Manager Teacher and School Programs Sculptures Link Schools in Ellicott City, Korea On June 12 th, Linwood Center in Ellicott City hosted the unveiling of a new sculpture and plaque in honor of its budding relationship with the Daniel School in South Korea. Introduced and facilitated by First Lady Yumi Hogan, Linwood Center was chosen to take part in the relationship because of its long history of serving students with autism in the community. Both the Daniel School and Linwood Center serve students with disabilities. To create a physical connection between the schools, two identical statues were created. Titled Hyunsu s Butterfly, the 3-4 ft. tall statue depicts a young boy holding a butterfly. Designed by Thomas Clement and Wonsook Kim, it was inspired by the story of a young boy with disabilities from South Korea who was adopted by an American family. Click here to read more. Location: Washington, DC Department: Education Job description: Develop and supervise selected events presented by and for teaching artists for the School and Community programs, including DCSCI, CETA, and National Partnerships, as well as a range of other programs throughout the Education Division. Duties and responsibilities: Supervise, administer, and evaluate teaching artists as they present professional learning events for local teachers at the Kennedy Center. Prepare the teaching artists to present thei work nationally and to be added to the Kennedy Center s National Roster of Teaching Artists. Identify, research, select, and recommend appropriate local and national teaching artists to present residencies, workshops for teachers, events for families, and other education events which will take place within the Kennedy Center, the Expansion Space, schools, and various locations throughout the DC metro area. Supervise the development of the Artist Seminars. Oversee a committee that recommends and approves teaching artists to be included on the National Roster. Supervise the Program Coordinator, the Kennedy Center as well as interns for the School and Community programs. Supervise a formalized partnership with Arlington Public Schools Prince George s County Public Schools, and other local school districts and oversee educational events associated with the partnerships. Serve as a consultant to other Education Departments regarding teaching artists. Education/Experience: Five years teaching experience with students and three years teaching experience with adults preferred. Three years experience in designing educational programs for teachers preferred. Graduate degree in either the performing arts, arts education, education, or equivalent experience necessary. 4 RHHS Student wins National Electronic Composition Contest River Hill High School student Jacob Parker (Class of 2017) has been named the Grand Prize Winner of the 2nd Annual TI:ME (Technology nstitute for Music Educators) National Electronic Music Composition Contest. Student Artwork Displayed at Cherry Blossom Festival For the past four years, the City of Mitaka, Japan, Cherry and Green Association of Friendship, and Frederick County Public Schools, MD has partnered with the National Mall and Memorial Parks to engage grade school students in the creation of a Friendship Mural. Student drawings and messages are sent electronically to the U.S. from Japan where volunteers translate each message and recreate the mural, which is displayed at the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival. Through this exchange of art; a colorful tapestry of community and friendship is created and shared between two nations, and the world. The contest attracted entries throughout the United States and from students up to collegiate evel. Jacob won for his piece entitled "Can't Touch Punk Wonderland" in which he used Pro Tools and Ableton Live software to combine the major musical elements of classic 1970s and 1980s music into a new composition. Jacob's composition portfolio, which includes his winning composition, can be viewed here: Jacob won a plaque as well as a Yamaha synthesizer, a full music production software package, headphones, and a bluetooth MIDI controller. Next year he will be studying engineering at the University of Maryland, and with all the music production gear he just won, he's going to have the coolest dorm room on campus. On the National Mall, children at the Friendship Mural exchange gifts of art with children in Japan. Cheryl Banes, an art teacher at Monocacy Middle School, was awarded the National Park Service Director s Partnership Award for 2016.

Tickets start at $10 and may be purchased online at at the Imagination Stage box office, or via phone at Imagination Stage will close the Season of My First Imagination Stage with Ratón en Movimiento!, a bilingual version of the popular Mouse on the Move directed by Jenna Duncan. Ratón en Movimiento! follows two adventurous mice ready to explore the world beyond their little mouse-hole. They decide to go to La Luna, since it is cat-free and made entirely of delicious, mouth-watering queso (so they have heard). In this interactive play, the audience becomes part of the story through multi-sensory activities. This production is now performed in both Spanish and English.
