1 Overview: 2018 Young Artists Gallery The Young Artists Gallery is a juried art exhibition and contest open to high school students. The Woman s Club of Coconut Grove established YAG in 2001 as an annual event designed to provide exhibition opportunities for talented high school art students; to provide the opportunity for these students to learn about careers in the visual arts and to offer support and encouragement for young talent by giving them the opportunity to show their work to art patrons and to see that their work is marketable. The Woman s Club awards more than $8,000 in scholarships to deserving students every year. The Art Education Office of Dade County pre-judges the artworks submitted and selects about 100 finalists, which will be displayed at the Woman s Club of Coconut Grove March The artists in the exhibit will be able to offer their work for sale if they wish. Finalist and scholarship winners will be honored at a prestigious Awards Reception held at the club Saturday, March 10 from 2:00 to 4:00PM. Due date for teachers to submit entries: February 23, 2018 at the Art Education Office, 1501 N.E. 2nd Avenue, Suite 316, Miami, Florida Annex (Young Artists Gallery). Work must be delivered to the Art Education Office. Date of the event: Awards Reception will be Saturday, March 10, from 2:00 to 4:00PM Exhibit will be open to the public through the weekend - March 10-11, from 12:00 to 5:00PM Location of the exhibit: The Woman s Club of Coconut Grove (founded in 1891) in the heart of Coconut Grove, at the corner of South Bayshore and McFarlane South Bayshore Drive, Coconut Grove, FL Eligibility: The Young Artists Gallery is open to high school students from Miami-Dade County Public Schools Submission of entries Step by Step : Students submit their work to their art teachers in the following media: Watercolor, oil, acrylic, drawing, collage, sculpture, ceramics, photography, printmaking and digital art. Teachers select up to ten pieces of student artwork to submit per school. Teachers and students prepare eligible work o Work must be submitted in a form in which it can be exhibited (matted and/or framed or on bases if appropriate). o Complete the enclosed labels and inventory sheet. o If student wishes to sell their art, they must also complete a permission slip enclosed. Pricing shall be done by the students and their art teachers. Prices must be written on the entry form and are not to exceed $ The students will receive checks made out to them for their sales at the end of the show. There is no cost to the students to participate. o Tape a label to the back of each artwork, along with the permission slip if art is for sale. 2 Awards: The Woman s Club will award each exhibiting student artist a Certificate of Participation and several scholarships ranging form $1000 to $2500. Ten students will receive Merit Awards of Distinction and $50 Checks. The teachers of the winning students will receive an honorarium as well. Judging: Entries will be pre-judged at the end of February by the Art Education Office. Teachers and students will be notified by February 28 of the results, which determines the finalists who earned the privilege to exhibit in YAG March 10-11, An independent panel of judges chosen by the Woman s Club will then judge the works and select the scholarship winners and the Merit Award winners. Previous years judges have included local artists, museum directors, and gallery owners. Works will be judged according to presentation, artistic merit, creativity, and excellence. 6 Call for Artists: Juried Exhibition and scholarship opportunity for Miami-Dade public high school students The Woman s Club of Coconut Grove is hosting the 16th Annual Young Artists Gallery (YAG) March 10-11, This juried art show allows students to be involved in an art gallery setting and win accolades, earn funds for tuition and showcase and sell their pieces to an audience of art patrons. The Woman s Club will award several scholarships ranging form $1000 to $2500 to the winning students this year. Ten students will also receive Merit Awards of Distinction and $50 Checks. Scholarship winners will then be selected by an independent panel of judges at the Woman s Club. Artworks will be judged according to presentation, artistic merit, creativity, and excellence.
