2 Keynote Speaker: Ke Francis Ke Francis is a narrative artist who has been actively producing artwork for more than fifty years. His books, paintings, prints, photographs and sculptures are in over thirty major public and private collections including the Getty Museum, the National Gallery, the National Museum of American Art, the High Museum, the New Orleans Museum of Fine Art, the San Francisco Museum of Contemporary Art, Yale s Sterling Memorial Library, the Van-Pelt Dietrich Collection, the Polaroid Collection, and the Ginsburg Collection in Johannesburg. Francis resides in Tupelo, Mississippi, where he and his wife Mary are the co-owners of HOOPSNAKE PRESS, a fine art press that publishes artist books and prints. Currently the print and book-publishing projects, exhibitions and archiving efforts of the press are administered by Ke, Mary, and his daughter Kerry Francis. Ke Francis continues to produce his paintings, prints and artist books, and individual and collaborative projects are carried out by seven associate artists who are recent University of Central Florida graduates. According to Ke Francis, "The Hoopsnake Press Associate Artists are a group of talented young artists whose artistic interests and aesthetic concerns parallel the mission of the press. 3 Professional Development in the Studio Thursday, November 9, 2017 Mississippi Museum of Art We are again offering three concentrations for the Thursday session of the 2016 MAEA Fall Conference. Each of these sessions will last five hours on Thursday and will cost $50. You must register for the conference in order to enroll and attend one of these studio concentrations. Printmaking Our featured speaker Ke Francis will conduct a five-hour workshop on printmaking. Mr. Francis will discuss the process of hand engraving using Gravoply II, a relatively cheap material designed for the sign industry. Participants will transfer a drawing to the matrix, engrave the plate using burins and dremel tools and ink and print their engravings using the relief printing process on the etching press in the museum studio facility. Limit 20 participants. All supplies provided. Figure Drawing Camilla S Haneberg taught a very popular portrait drawing class at the MAEA Spring Conference and many of you wanted more. Thanks to funding from the Da Vinci Initiative, she is flying in from New Mexico to teach a figure drawing class. Learn time tested Atelier methods of representational drawing, starting with a notional space, envelope, follow through lines, plumb line, measuring tilts and distances, separating light from shadow, drawing shadow shapes, terminator, and rounding form. Emphasis is on proper proportion and realistic representation of the model. Limit 20 participants. All supplies provided. Landscape Painting After Shirley placed in the MAEA member show last year with this vibrant painting, many requested she offer a workshop. She has graciously agreed to offer the workshop for MAEA teachers to learn this technique. Come explore the connection between colors, layering, lines, and edges. Be prepared to have fun and get messy! Limit 15 participants who must provide their own brushes and some paints.

4 Registration Information MAEA Fall Conference fees include Friday and Saturday sessions, art supplies needed for the sessions, conference t-shirt or tote bag, coffee and muffins Friday morning, dinner Friday evening, and lunch on Saturday. The Thursday studio concentrations are an additional $50 which includes some art supplies. All sessions are specifically geared to help Visual Arts teachers strengthen their teaching practices and show connections to the Mississippi Visual Arts Standards as well as give teachers opportunities to reflect, problem solve, and share new ideas and experiences. Up to 2 CEUs or 20 contact hours are available during this professional development conference. 7 3 X 5 Exhibition This year we are having a 3 X 5 exhibition. Create an artwork using any medium (not too heavy so it will hang easily on the wall) and bring it with you to registration. A panel of judges will select awards and present them at the reception Friday evening.
