He has been working as the President of IBBY Russia up to now. IBBY Russia was a state foundation under the supervision of t Today IBBY Russia is a non-profit organization. The staff of IBBY Russia now consists of the Executive Director and the Treasurer. The Executive Committee consists of 12 specialists. Saint Petersburg Branch works since The Secretariat of St. Petersburg branch is located at the Central Children s City Library named after A.S. Pushkin. The Executive Secretary is the head of the Department of Cultural Programs and the employees of the Department help to realize some projects. Except that the structure of St. Petersburg branch consists of the Executive Committee (9 members) which includes the Chairperson, 3 co-chairpersons from main organisations, Executive Secretary and 4 members Is your NS affiliated to, or a branch of another organization or institution? Since March, 1996 IBBY Russia has become one of the Programs of Russian Cultural Foundation (RCF), this Program is called Specialists of Children s literature and Book Culture from Russia and the World to children. Now we work under the auspices of RCF Do you have an office and paid staff? The Section has an office in the centre of Moscow in a very beautiful ancient building which is belonged to RCF and occupied by representatives of other Programs of Russian Cultural Foundation. IBBY Russia (Moscow) has paid staff (two persons) St. Petersburg Branch is located at the Central Children s City Library named after A.S. Pushkin. Branch hasn t it s own budget. The Library supplies its activities How often do you have business meetings? EC of IBBY Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg) has its meetings twice a year. Annually Secretariat organizes a meeting for all members. In St. Petersburg it is called Literary events (each December or January).

3 Members of IBBY Russia has one two business meetings and two-three different meetings in a year devoted to special professional s occasions and projects. Membership Does your NS have organizations as members? How many? What kind of organizations? 14 organisations. Publishing houses: «Samovar», «ONIX-21», «Drofa Plus», «Geniuses school», «IN», State Russian Children s Library, Central City Children s Library named after A. Gaydar, children magazine Murzilka», children s newspaper «Pionerskaya Pravda», children s center Youth of Russia, Moscow State Open Pedagogical University named after A. Sholohov, Russian School Librarians Association, Norwegian Informational Center Norwegian Library, Scandinavian Cultural Center. Three following organisations are major members of the St. Petersburg branch: St. Petersburg University of Culture and Arts, the Union of Artists of St. Petersburg, the Union of Writers of St. Petersburg (section of children s literature) Does your NS have individual members? How many? How do they contribute to the NS activities? There are about 50 individual members in the Section. Some of them pay the fees. The St. Petersburg Branch has no individual members. But writers, illustrators, editors, translators, librarians take part in the branch s activities Who are your members? What percentage are teachers? Authors? Illustrators? Publishers? Students? etc. In general the membership of IBBY Russia includes authors (30%), illustrators (30%), publishes (15% ), librarians (15%) and editors, translators and critics, university specialists (10%) What categories of membership, if any, does your NS have? There is individual and collective membership in the Section, in St Petersburg branch - collective membership only.

4 How often do you keep in touch with your members? How? It depends on our activities but rather often. For example, we have organized writers competition ( November 2007 March 2008) and the IBBY Russia Jury had meetings each week during two months and almost daily contacts by . Normally by telephone, , meeting in the central office and during different city s activities. 2. FUNDING 2.1. Annual budget. What is your average annual budget in US? Is it increasing or decreasing? US$, US$ It s increasing. St. Petersburg Branch has not its own budget. 2.2 Sources of income individual members US$, Organizations US$, individual members 300 US$, Organizations US$. The collective members of the St. Petersburg Branch do not pay for their membership Is there a membership fee? How much is it? What percentage of your budget does this account for? Annually 30USD (individual members), 300 USD (collective members). Membership fees compiled 16% (2007) and 6% (2008) of our budget. Section receives the financial support from Russian Cultural Foundation (RCF) Do you receive financial support from individual sponsors and/ or donors? If so, how much? What percentage of your budget does this account for? IBBY Russia does not receive any financial support from sponsors or donors Do you receive grants from government or national institutions? If so, how much? What percentage of your budget does this account for? IBBY Russia does not receive grants from government or national institution. St. Petersburg branch gets the financial support from the government for organization of children s programs, for example reader s contests and celebrating of International Children s Book Day (2007, 2008).

Our regular contribution come from Russian Cultural Foundation, fees are not regular at all Do you receive support specifically for your IBBY dues? If so, from whom? Yes, we have support from Board of directors of Moscow International Book Fair and from Organizing Committee of St. Petersburg International Book Salon Describe successful fundraising strategies your NS has developed. According to the IBBY Russia status we can t earn money during our activities. But, of course, we must try to involve more collective members (who is able to pay fees, at least) in our projects. 3. THE NATIONAL SECTION S ACTIVITIES 3.1 Main activities International meeting: Participation in the International Symposium on children s literature, organized by Ivano Franro University in Lviv jointly with IRSCL (International Research Society on Children s Literature) ( , Lviv, Urraine) Organized of «Days of Russian children s books in Warsaw» - jointly with Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Russian Embassy, Fine Arts

6 - 6 - Academy of Poland and IBBY Poland - (books presentation, exhibition of illustrations, meetings with Russian authors, illustrators, critics and so on) ( , Warsaw, Krakow, Poland) Organization of «Days of Russian children s books in Belgium» (books presentation, exhibition of illustrations; meetings with IBBY Russia President, classic of Russian children s literature Sergey Mikhalkov and Honoured Artist Sergey Alimov for children, adults and specialists) ( , Brussels, Antwerp, Belgium) Participation in exhibition of Slovak and Russian illustrations of BIB winners within 40 years which was organized by BIB colleagues in Slovak centre in Moscow (November, 2007). Organization of «Days of Russian children s books in Vienna» - jointly with Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Russian Embassy, Austrian specialists in Russian culture, children literature and art (books presentation, exhibition of illustrations; meetings with IBBY Russia President Sergey Mikhalkov, with critic and translator of children s books from German Elvira Ivanova ) ( , Vienna, Austria) Organization of «Days of Russian children s books in Stockholm» - jointly with Russian Embassy, Medborgarplatsens Bibliotheca Stockholm, International Library of Stockholm and IBBY Sweden - meetings with IBBY Russia President, classic of Russian children s literature Sergey Mikhalkov and Honoured Artist Sergey Alimov for children, adults and specialists. (Together with General consulate of Sweden in St.-Petersburg and the Swedish Institute in Stockholm) Organization of the Seminar " Big literature for a small reader" (April, 2008, St.-Petersburg International Book Salon). Participants: librarians, writers, publishers, artists from Denmark and Finland. (Jointly with the Danish Cultural Institute and Arts Council of Southeast Finland). Organization of Round table " Involvement in reading "( April, 2008, St.- Petersburg International Book Salon). Jointly with Arts Council of Southeast Finland. Presentation of the book of Fairy tales in Finnish and Russian. (The project «Short stories written and illustrated by children»). Meeting with writer Esko Junkkari (Finland) and presentation of the book «The Flying girl». Participants: children, parents, teachers, artists and writers. Meeting with writer Reetta Niemelja, Finland ( 2 April, St. Petersburg, ICBD). In the programme of all events (point ) mostly Executive Director of IBBY Russia, sometimes EC IBBY Russia had a paper about IBBY, IBBY projects and IBBY Russia activities Does your NS organize courses or seminars at a local level? Whom are these aimed at? Yes, seminars. For example, the seminars «Spiritual Enlightenment and Secular Education: the part of children s book» for teachers, writers, publishers, librarians, illustrators, psychologists, representatives of the

Yes. Books Exhibition of H.C. Andersen Award Nominees 2008 at IBBY Russia stand at XX th Moscow International Book Fair ( September 2007, All- Russian Exhibition center, Moscow) Organization of Exhibition of Russian children s book illustrations and the conference on illustration s problems and trends in children s centre «Museyon» (September, 2007, Moscow) Organization of Exhibition of Russian children s books illustrations ( illustrations of 53 Russian artists) jointly with Centre of Intellectual Development in Teheran (meetings with illustrators, master classes, seminar) ( , Teheran, Iran) Organization of Exhibition of Russian children s book illustrations and round table on problems of modern book illustration jointly with specialists from Jeunesse et Media Institute (Lozano) within the programme of Book Salon in Geneva (may, 2007, Switzerland) Organization of Exhibition of children s book illustrations in Moscow Duma (for Moscow Government representatives) (March, 2008) Book Exhibition of IBBY Honour List 2006/ Stand at the St. Petersburg International Book Salon, November, Book Exhibition of H. 10 The St. Petersburg branch hosted the Arts Council of Southeast Finland Book Exhibition «The children literature of Southeast Finland / Stand at the St. Petersburg International Book Salon, April, The St. Petersburg branch hosted the Swedish Institute exhibition devoted to Centenary of Astrid Lindgren. The exhibition was presented at the St.- Petersburg International Book Salon (April, 2007). Then the exhibition was displayed in the Children s library of Petrodvorets, in the festival- theater Baltijsky Dom, in the Central Children s City Library ( April 2007 May 2008) Does your NS administer awards or prizes? Does it organize contests? Russian NS organized the contests of Open Competition of manuscripts named after Sergey Mikhalkov for Russian language writers «Best literary work for teenagers», devoted to the 40 th anniversary of IBBY Russia, 95 th birthday of IBBY Russia President Sergey Mikhalkov. This competition was held from October 2007 to April Jury members had meetings each week during two months. We established three main prizes with Honorable Diplomas, memorable presents and the financial support; twenty Diplomas and we are bound to publish the best manuscripts). St. Petersburg branch organized the Children contest A Wonderful Journey across Sweden devoted to Centenary of Astrid Lindgren (Together with General Consulate of Sweden in St. Petersburg, Swedish museum Junibacken, the festival-theater Baltijsky Dom, Kostyor and Avtobus magazines, children s libraries of North-Western Russia). This competition was held from June 2007 to November Over two thousand works were submitted for participation in the contest. Three winners have received a prize - a trip to Sweden.

11 Does your NS run a library or bookstore? RBBY does not run a Library or a bookstore. The office of St. Petersburg branch is in the Library. The Secretariat creates a stock of books and materials of IBBY for exhibitions and for students, writers, illustrators, librarians, critics, publishers and others. Now this stock contains 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 IBBY Honour List books collections. We also have books collections of HCA Award candidates 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, Has your NS organised other activities? Which ones have been especially successful in your country? Please specify. We are rather successful in cooperation with some children s libraries. We organize joint meetings with different specialists, local exhibitions, books presentations and so on. We are active in cooperation with Russian Centres of Science and Culture Russian Embassies abroad. Among the most successful ones we can name the participation in Book Fair (St.-Petersburg International Book Salon), organization of IDCB and Week of Children s book, Children's book projects (regional and international), seminars, exhibitions with Scandinavian countries, work with IBBY book collections. 3.2 Communication Does your NS publish a regular newsletter? Who receives this? Is it available on line? Unfortunately, we do not Does your NS develop lists of book selections? Which ones? No What, if any, are your other regular publications? Please, give names (original and translation into English) and a description of their content and purpose. We annually publish ICBD materials in the newspaper «Pionerskaya Pravda», in the magazine «Kostyor», We published our information in the magazine «Piterbook». There is a special heading Children's Book's World. We publish here the information about events (seminars, conferences, International Children's Book Day, exhibitions); authors and new books. Since 2000 St. Petersburg branch has been publishing the annual calendar with information about IBBY projects and IBBY Russia activities.

12 Does your NS work with national media to promote your own activities or the work of IBBY? Yes, we do and rather active. Russian NS works with Moscow Echo Radio, Moscow Echo Radio in Peterburg, Radio of Russia Co-operation at a national level Is your NS consulted about children s books in your country? By whom? We cooperate with the University s and Institute s lecturers on children s literature, librarians, with editorial boards of newspapers and magazines, also we are consulted by members of International Society of Writers Unions in Moscow, Writers Union of Russia, Section of Book s Graphic at Russian Union of Artists and with other specialists Are there NGOs or established institutions in your country for which the development of a children s reading and publishing culture is an objective? Today, lots of them. Among them, for example, Club of Children book, Museum of Children Book, Russian School Librarians Association. Russian Books Union and others Are you informed of their projects and needs? We are informed but not about all of theirs projects and needs, but we try to cooperate with many of them. 4. COOPERATION WITH IBBY 4.1 International activities in cooperation with IBBY Congresses and General Assemblies How many of your members participated in the last two IBBY Congresses and General Assemblies? members in the Congress and one in General Assembly members are going to participate Does your NS participate in IBBY regional conference? If so, which ones? Unfortunately, we doesn t What activities, if any, does your NS organize to celebrate the ICBD? We organize the meetings for young readers with writers, poets, illustrators, we prepare special books exhibition at Moscow City Palace for Children and Youth Creative Activity. Every year at that day we participate at a

13 ceremonial meeting of authors, illustrators, translators, librarians, editors with children at this Palace. In St. Petersburg and region all libraries, main book shops, palace of children s creativity are participating in the Week of Children s Book (last week of Mach) and ICDB. The uniform program is made up for city and displayed on the site of Central Children s Library. Participants get printed materials at an organizing meeting. The focal event of ICDB is held in Central Library on this day the results of city s book contest are summarized, authors, illustrators and publishers come to meet with the readers Did you design your own poster? If not, did you use the message and the poster of the sponsoring NS? Yes, we publish our own posters (and use the poster of the sponsoring NS). An artist paints a poster, and an author writes his message to the children. All children s libraries, schools, book shops receive posters and invitation cards for children. The message to ICDB is translated by the translator of children s books How do you disseminate information about the ICBD? We publish the poster IDCB and the text of the message in the national media. Every year in St. Petersburg we hold a press conference, where we give information about Week of Children s Book and ICBD. We arrange a radio program devoted to this event. Posters, messages, invitation cards are disseminated in children s libraries, schools and book shops.

Andersen Jury, Anastasia Arkhipova, Chairperson of Book s Graphic Section in Russian Artists Union, is working as EC IBBY member. 4.2 Cooperation with other National Sections Are you involved in regional cooperation with other NS? What is the nature of this cooperation? Yes, we are. NS of Poland, Sweden, Austria. Please, look point Do you cooperate bilaterally with other NS? Do you exchange newsletters or information with other NS? If so, how often? What, in your opinion, have been the major obstacles to greater cooperation between NS? We think that there are no serious obstacles. For most of us IBBY activities are voluntary job so we just need more time and money to realize projects as much and effective as we want and plan. 5.
