Some research seminars relating to the Optics and Photonics have been carried out to promote and increased the interest of the related technical art. 2. Some Germany University students visit our Electrician & Electron Experiment Center and have a seminar talk with our chapter members on 3 March. 3. Chapter vice president Miss. Jing Sui gave presentation on A new nonuniformity correction algorithm for infrared line scanners to all the members of the chapter on 16 March. 4. Chapter president Mr. Liquan Dong has given a seminar talk on Friday, April 14, Title of his talk was A Crossing Path Scene-Based Algorithm for Nonuniformity Correction in Focal-Plane Array Sensors. 5. Chapter vice president Miss. Jing Sui attended the SPIE Defense & Security Symposium, which was held on April 17-21, 2006 in Orlando, Florida USA. And talked her paper with other attendees at the poster sessions on April Invited Professor Francis T. S. Yu, SPIE Fellow, 2004 SPIE Dennis Gabor Award recipient, from Department of Electrical Engineering, Pennsylvania State University to give us a lecture on 12 May. The title of his lecture was Academic Excellence in Universities: Experience from the United States. 7. SPIE President-elect Prof. Brain Culshaw visits China and gave the SPIE student members a lecture about SPIE on 22 May. And Mr. Liquan Dong, the president of our chapter given a report on the activities of our chapter in recent 2

3 three years. 8. Visit local companies, such as Beijing Western Asia Pacific Technology CO., LTD. Which can help students to seek job opportunities, locate resources, keep in touch with newest development in academic and professional research. 9. Visit the Institute of Opto-Electronics Technology, BeiHang University and have a seminar talk with the researchers of the institute. 10. We applied the travel fund to SPIE 51 st annual meeting at San Diego, CA, USA this August. And preparing the poster for displaying on the exhibition of the Annual Meeting. Future Activities 1. Participation in SPIE conferences. 2. Prepare to invite the officers of the Tsinghua University SPIE Student Chapter and Shanghai Jiao Tong University SPIE Student Chapter to have a seminar in our department. 3. Prepare to attend the 2006 Doctoral Forum of China, which will hold on 3-5 November, 2006 at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. 4. Prepare to design our chapter web site. 5. We are going to invite renowned persons in the field of optics and photonics to deliver talks in his/her field of research. 6. Continue to give different lectures in optics during our meetings. 7. Continue to visiting local companies to encourage internship, locate jobs for chapter members, and get in touch with latest advances in industry developments. 8. Maintain close relations, interchange experience and plan common activities with other SPIE chapters around the world. 3
