2 Modest and simple language of JANG JIN S ceramics, simply expressed with almost no other decors, have shown a delicate and pure aesthetic touch that is sometimes also found in works of other Korean female artists. With the perception of arts in life, Korea s leading ceramic artist JANG Jin infuses the natural breath of soil into pottery by her work. She has built the body of work that is continued with recent Eastern minimalism followed by trends of Neo-Expressionism and her body of work present delicacy of femininity, and its characteristics and colors embrace the exquisiteness of sophisticated and yet elegant harmony as a beautiful melody of music. Her pottery with the pure minimized feature brings out her unique delicate sensibility reflects Korean aesthetics, and that it passes the warm sensitivity to our contemporaries, tired of the artificial and mechanical life. Through the beauty of self-restraint and harmony, her ceramic naturally balances with everyday life, and has subtle, pure and natural yet rich color expressions embraces the reminiscent of the nature s vitality such as clear blue autumn sky, the tender greenness of bud and sprouts, and soft milky color of magnolia in spring. Soft colors in her ceramics are filled with vividness and richness, harmonized beautifully in fine moderate expression. Inspired by our traditional potteries, considered to be simple such as liberal style of Buncheong - a grayish-blue-powdered celadon and White Celadon, both established in Joseon Dynasty, her pieces represents the new aesthetics of Korean modern ceramic with its unique elegance. JANG opened up a new door in the field of Arts and her works go beyond the imagination of many and leads to new wonders. with Portrait Series and Briquette Series in the 1980s, and transforming into Minimalism representing ZEN style in the 1990s. For the past 30 years, she has expanded her expressive fields through seeking and experimenting with formative aesthetics which drew emotions, rather than the Post-Modern expression or rationality that imposed the femininity. She is one of the few ceramics artists who strive to transform traditional ceramics into living art ceramics, and more of her new works are suited to comfort everyday use. The delicate touch of JANG stands out with its unique gentle curves, and thin, light-weighted, and yet simple forms. The objects embrace the Korean sentiment and warmth, with the sense of comfort and peace. Also, it contains the concept of harmony with life, nature, and the uniting time. As newly verifying the primordial nature of soil and seeking for aesthetic pursuit and concept, Jang Jin is appreciated as the potter who constantly transforms within the wisdom of invariable soil.
