2 Welcome to the 2017 Eyemouth High School Art Auction. This event has been organised to raise funds aimed at adding breadth and depth to students experience of Art through Gallery visits, Artist workshops and investment in specialist equipment. We would like to thank wholeheartedly the artists who have donated their work since without them this would not be possible. This catalogue is for your reference when viewing and/or bidding for the artwork in the Auction. We recommend that you come and view the work before the auction and perhaps take the opportunity to look around the Careers Convention which will be taking place in the school Wednesday 14th June (open to the public 4-6pm) as the images in this booklet are not representative of the size and quality of the work shown due to the limitations of the printing process. Furthermore, it should be noted that whilst accurate at the time of printing, we have not been able to include every piece donated. 3 Andrew Mackenzie Lot 201 Andrew Mackenzie is a Scottish artist who has worked closely with our students over the last 12 months in life drawing workshops thanks to the fruits of last years auction. He graduated with an MFA from Edinburgh College of Art in 1993, and lives and works in the Scottish Borders. His work has been exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally, and is represented in many collections. He is currently president of Visual Arts Scotland.

4 S1 Composition Lot 202 Photo Heading This beautiful composition was produced by S1 students at Eyemouth High School. These talented pupils have used Hundertwasser as their inspiration to produce individual squares which showcase their creative flare. Please cut along dotted line.... 5 S1 Composition Lot 203 This second S1 Composition is equally stunning with a blue mount! It has been produced by another class of our S1 students working on individual squares which have been mounted together in a Hundertwasser inspired piece.

6 S2 Composition Lot 204 Kevin Peden Lot 225 This bold composition would hang in any kitchen or bedroom beautifully. It has been produced by a class of our S2 students working on individual squares which have been mounted together in a Pop Art style. We are looking forward to a bright future in the Art department with so much talent coming through the school! Kevin Peden is a Visual Artist based in the Scottish borders. He is focused on holistically experiencing an environment and responding creatively to it, working predominantly in oil paints, inks & soft pastels and screen printing. Kevin is a well-respected member of Crossing Borders and the Edinburgh Printmakers. He has been good enough to donate a wonderfully detailed and sensitive print of his signature swallows for our auction.

7 Jenni Robinson Lot 224 S2 Composition Lot 205 This second S2 Composition is equally bright and cheerful! This beautiful Highland cow has been very kindly donated by one of our ex-pupils, Jenni Robinson. She now works professionally as an Artist in Northern Ireland. It is one of only five Giclee prints and comes with a certificate of authenticity. It has been produced by another class of our S2 students working on individual squares which have been mounted together in a Peter Blake inspired piece!.

8 S3 Bottle Composition Lot 206 Derek Jones Lot 223 Our S3 Students faced the challenging task of representing glass for this composition and the results make a lovely collage of scale and colour. Each bottle has been produced by a different individual and when you look at the original each individual style is evident. This is also mounted in a white frame, with colour prints available to order. Derek Jones is a local and highly respected artist living near Eyemouth. He has exhibited widely for many years in Edinburgh, London, Corbridge and recently in Paris and Prague. He is very supportive of the art department at the High School and has generously donated a large portrait in gesso and charcoal. Derek uses charcoal, acrylics, pastels and collage to explore the play of light on skin. This is a particular favourite for me as her attitude reminds me of more than one of the young adults I have taught!

9 Derek Jones Lot 222 P7 Composition Lot 207 Derek Jones has once again been very generous in donating two original pieces of work. The second piece is an experimental combination of original artwork and digital mastery, mounted on a wooden frame. This is a unique piece which cannot and has not been reproduced. This lovely composition is the result of an Arts transition day with the P7 Pupils of Coldingham and Cockburnspath Primary Schools. The original artwork is watercolour with pen and ink, with a drawing from every child present. It will be auctioned as a framed piece. Coloured A4 prints will be also available.

10 Tania Willis-Kelly Lot 208 Kate Philp Lot 221 In addition to the two prints, Kate Philp has also donated one of her recently published books. Tania Willis-Kelly is a local illustrator who has recently moved to the area from Hong Kong and has children at our school. She continues to work internationally and has very kindly donated this lovely refreshing print entitled Luck, denoting the chinese symbol pictured. This book showcases a fabulous collection of paintings from the last 20 years of her work. It features the Highlands and Islands, the Scottish Borders and Northumberland where she now lives, giving an inside look at what has guided and inspired her.

11 Kate Philp Lot 220 Simon Harwood Lot 209 Kate Philp was born in Africa, brought up in Scotland and currently lives near the Northumberland coast where her signature long stretches of sandy beaches can be found. She is also known for depicting the white sands and turquoise waters of the West Coast and Islands which inspired many paintings by Scottish colourist Bunty Cadell, who was in fact Kate's grandmother's cousin. Simon Harwood is another local artist who also has a family connection to the school through his daughter. He has generously donated this original acrylic on canvas depicting allotments. This is the second of two delightful prints Kate has generously donated for this auction which are typical of her work.

12 A. Scott Robertson Lot 210 Kate Philp Lot 219 This is the first of three beautiful mounted prints which have been generously donated by A. Scott Robertson. His work can be bought via Saatchi Art as well as at his gallery on Bridge Street in Berwick. He was shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Show last year, so we are very happy to have his contribution! This is the first of two prints donated by wellknown and very popular local artist Kate Philp. This is a beautifully expressive landscape entitled Smugglers Cove. Her many solo exhibitions have been held both locally and further afield over the last fifteen years in leading contemporary galleries, and Kate has also exhibited in the Mall Galleries, London.

13 Brita Ganstrom Lot 218 A. Scott Robertson Lot 211 Mick Manning and Brita Granström have now been collaborating together, sharing both illustration and text, for twenty two years. Their critically acclaimed books, published internationally and in many languages, mix words and images in all sorts of inventive and delightful ways. In recent years, they won the English Association Award for the fifth time with Charlie's War Illustrated in 2014 and have been shortlisted for the 2013 and 2014 ALMA prize. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is international and the largest children's literature prize in the world. Brita has very kindly donated this limited edition print. This is the second of three beautiful prints which have been generously donated by A. Scott Robertson. This piece comes in an expertly limed white wooden frame. He is a local print maker, well -known for his technical skill. He has been shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Show this year, so we are very happy to have his contribution!

14 No. 4 Gallery Lot 212 Lewis Murray Lot 217 This is one of two prints given to us by No. 4 gallery near St. Abbs. They are beautifully framed with a lovely unique style which shows an experimental and confident understanding of the printing process. Lewis Murray has completed his Advanced Higher Art (Design) this year and is going on to read Architecture at Edinburgh University. These highly detailed pen and ink drawings of skulls show off the intricacy of his style beautifully. These are being auctioned as a pair of framed original drawings.

15 Suzanna Hammersley Lot 216 No. 4 Gallery Lot 213 Suzanna Hammersley has completed two Advanced Higher Art courses this year (in Design Studies and Expressive Studies respectively) and is going on to read Law at Edinburgh University. This beautifully sensitive painting shows off her flare for composition and is being auctioned as a framed original painting. This is the second of the prints donated by No. 4 Gallery in St. Abbs. It is also of flowers, in a gentle combination of tones which emulate the feeling of spring. Both are perfectly framed and would work well individually or as a pair.

16 A.Scott Robertson Lot 214 Gillian Cochrane Lot 215 Photo Headi This third print from A. Scott Robertson comes with a sense of humour, depicting a tiny boat on high seas. We love its quirky, light hearted nature, which gives it a hang me anywhere you like appeal. Gillian Cochrane is a popular local artist well known for her prints of textile based collages. She trained in Dundee graduating with a BA(Hons) in Textiles before moving to the Berwickshire area. We are also lucky to have her teaching part-time at Eyemouth High School. This stunning Puffin is subtlely collaged with maps of the local area.
