1 Ellington Public Schools New Teachers Ellington High School Mr. Kevin Bernardino Mr. Bernardino has accepted a position teaching Spanish at Ellington High School. In 2015, he received a Bachelor's degree from Central Connecticut State University in Secondary Spanish Education with a cross endorsement in elementary education. For the last two years, he taught Spanish at Manchester High School in Manchester, CT. He is a 2011 Ellington High School alumni and is eager to return home and share his passion of Spanish language and culture within his classroom. Ms. Brittany French Ms. French has accepted a position teaching mathematics at Ellington High School. She graduated from James Madison University with an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching. During student teaching, she taught geometry and algebra II at Fort Defiance High School in Augusta County, VA and 7 th grade pre-algebra at Montevideo Middle School in Rockingham County, VA. This will be her first year teaching. Mr. Patrick Gosselin Mr. Gosselin has accepted a position teaching English at Ellington High School. He recently graduated with his MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Connecticut. As an undergraduate at the University of Connecticut, he received a BA in English and also completed a minor in film studies. For the past three years, he has coached boys soccer at Conard High School in West Hartford where he also completed his student teaching. He is eager to become a part of the Ellington High School family. Miss Emilia Mason Miss Mason has accepted a position teaching science at Ellington High School. She is a 2017 graduate of the University of Connecticut s Neag School of Education. She received her MA in Science Curriculum and Instruction, BA in Biology, and BS in Biology and General Science Education. Following her graduation from UConn, she taught at Daniel Hand High School in Madison, CT as a long term substitute. During her graduate program, she gained valuable experience planning and implementing the new Next Generation Science Standards, which she is excited to bring to Ellington students. Ms. Nicole Palmer Ms. Palmer has accepted a position teaching English and drama at Ellington High School. She graduated from Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor s in English and a Master of Arts in Teaching. She taught reading at Madison Middle School in Trumbull, CT during the school year. She has also worked with the Community Music School for the past seven years assistant directing and stage managing their summer theater productions. Mrs. Kim Reilly Mrs. Reilly accepted a position teaching English at Ellington High School, commencing in January She came to us with 15 years of teaching experience, spanning grades 7-12, having taught English, social studies, teen leadership, and skills for adolescence courses. In addition to the classroom, she brings entrepreneurial experience and skills acquired

2 from several years in the business world. Her love for teaching and her students brought her back to the classroom - her first and primary passion. Mrs. Rosemary Stoner Mrs. Stoner has accepted a position teaching Spanish at Ellington High School. She attended Central Connecticut State University where she earned both her BS in Spanish Education and her MS in Educational Leadership. She has spent the last 20 years teaching at Manchester High School. During that time, she also served as the Curriculum and Instructional Leader for the World Language Department. She is looking forward to sharing her love of language and culture with the students at Ellington High. Ms. Megan Westall Ms. Westall has accepted a position teaching chemistry at Ellington High School. She has been teaching the last 10 years in Indiana, primarily in Indianapolis Public Schools. She has taught all levels of biology and chemistry, including the International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement levels. She has even had the pleasure to teach a forensics and genetics course. She has a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from The Ohio State University, a Master of Science in Genetics from Iowa State University, and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education from Marian College. Before her teaching career, she conducted canine cancer research at Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Mrs. Gillian Zieger Mrs. Zieger has accepted a position as the Library Media Specialist at Ellington High School. For the last 11 years, she has taught English at Woodstock Academy, where she also headed the peer-run writing center. She earned her library media certification last year through the ARC program, and she is also certified to teach English, including ECE and AP courses. She earned her Bachelor s in English and Theater at Skidmore College, her Master s in English from The University of Connecticut, and is a graduate of the Connecticut Writing Project Summer Institute. She is thrilled to begin the next phase of her career at Ellington High School and to inspire her students to be life-long readers, informed researchers, and savvy innovators. Ellington Middle School Ms. Maria Enrique Ms. Enrique has accepted a position teaching eighth grade mathematics at Ellington Middle School. She is a 2017 graduate of the University of Connecticut's Neag School of Education. While at UConn, she received a BS in Secondary Mathematics Education, BA in Mathematics, and her MA in Curriculum and Instruction. She is elated to begin her teaching career in Ellington Public Schools. Mrs. Kathleen Raphael Mrs. Raphael has accepted a position teaching special education at Ellington Middle School. She earned her Bachelor s degree in Physical Education from ECSU and a Master s degree in Special Education from the University of Saint Joseph. She is certified to teach both physical education and special education for grades K-12. She has eight years of teaching experience in a grades 3-5 self-contained classroom for students with autism in Enfield. Miss Victoria Schilling Miss Schilling has accepted a position teaching eighth grade science at Ellington Middle School. She is a 2017 graduate of the University of Connecticut's Neag

3 School of Education. She received her Master s in Curriculum and Instruction and her Bachelor s in Biology and General Science Education while at UConn and is very excited to begin her teaching career at Ellington Middle School. Mr. Christopher Stapleton Mr. Stapleton has accepted a part-time Social Studies teacher at Ellington Middle School. He has recently graduated with Cum Laude honors from Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a major in History where he also received his certification to teach grades He has worked for several school districts in Connecticut as a substitute teacher and as an afterschool aide. He aims to use history as a means of engaging students to ask questions and create their own independent conclusions. He is a pursuing a Master s degree in Educational Technologies at Central Connecticut State University. Center School Mrs. Lauren Balsbaugh Mrs. Balsbaugh has accepted a position as a fourth grade teacher at Center School. She graduated from college with an Elementary Education degree in In 2015, she completed her Master's degree in Education, Equity and Cultural Diversity. She has taught seventh, sixth and fifth grade in three different states and is now about to embark on her twelfth year of teaching in Connecticut. She is thrilled to be joining the Ellington team. Crystal Lake School Miss Alexandra Garcia Miss Garcia has accepted a position as a kindergarten teacher at Crystal Lake School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in English from ECSU, and a Master of Science degree in Special Education from CCSU. She is certified to teach grades K-6, and ESL grades K-12 in Connecticut. She completed her student teaching in second grade at North Windham Elementary School. In addition, she also taught at Windham Center Elementary School for four years, teaching kindergarten and first grade. She looks forward to sharing her passion for lifelong learning with her students. Miss Julia Luchut Miss Lachut has accepted a position as a third grade teacher at Crystal Lake School. She is certified to teach K-6 in Connecticut. She graduated from the Neag School of Education at UConn, receiving her Bachelor s in Elementary Education and her Master s in Curriculum and Instruction. She taught third grade at Goodwin Elementary School in Mansfield, CT this past school year. She student taught in Glastonbury, CT and interned both in East Hartford, CT and London, England during her graduate year. She is thrilled to join the Ellington community this school year. Mrs. Melissa McGovern Mrs. McGovern has accepted a position as literacy specialist at Crystal Lake School. Prior to moving to CT this winter, she taught in Plymouth, MA for six years as a second grade inclusion teacher and half a year as a fifth grade inclusion teacher. She attended Salve Regina University, earning a BS in both Elementary Education and Special Education, as well as Lesley University where she earned a MS in Reading.

4 Mrs. Julianne Reindl Mrs. Reindl will be teaching first grade at Crystal Lake School. She comes from Julia A. Stark Elementary in Stamford, CT where she taught kindergarten for four years. She received her Master s in Elementary Education from Sacred Heart University and attended the University of Rhode Island where she earned a Bachelor s in Textiles, Merchandising and Design with a Business Administration minor. She graduated from Ellington High School in 2003 and is excited to be back in the Ellington school system! She is also a mother to a four year old boy named Evan and a baby girl, Alaycea. Mrs. Julie Varney Mrs. Varney has accepted a position as a fifth grade teacher at Crystal Lake School. She is certified to teach grades 1-6 in Connecticut. She recently moved from Atlanta, Georgia and has seven years of teaching experience. She has taught grades 5-8 in Texas and Georgia. She attended Harding University, where she earned both her Bachelor s in Education and Master s in Education with a concentration in Reading. She is very excited about being a part of the Ellington community. Windermere School Miss Jennifer Almonte Miss Almonte has accepted a position teaching fifth grade at Windermere School. She graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction. She taught fifth grade her first year of teaching in Hartford at a private school. She has been teaching sixth grade for the past three years in the East Hartford Public School district. This year she will be starting her fifth year in education. Mrs. Cherilyn Murphy Mrs. Murphy has accepted a position teaching physical education at Windermere School. She graduated from CCSU with a Bachelor s degree in Exercise Science and is dually certified to teach physical education grades K-12 and health education grades K-12. She also completed her Master s degree in Physical Education at CCSU. She has taught elementary health and physical education in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Connecticut and is excited to get started and share her passion for wellness with her students at Windermere. Mrs. Cecily Sam Mrs. Sam has accepted a position teaching first grade at Windermere School. She is certified to teach grades 1-6 in CT and NY. Prior to moving to Ellington, she taught fourth and fifth grades (in both general education and integrated co-teaching classrooms) in New York City and fourth grade Math in Hartford, CT. Her student teaching was completed in first and second grade gifted and talented classrooms. She received her Bachelor s degree in Musical Theatre at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and Master s in Childhood Education grades 1-6 from Hunter College in New York, New York. Mrs. Kristen Sinoradzki Mrs. Sinoradzki has accepted a position as a kindergarten teacher at Windermere School. She earned a Bachelor s in Elementary Education with a concentration in Science and a Master s in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Connecticut. She comes to us with four years of teaching experience in kindergarten at Charles H. Barrows STEM Academy in Windham. She was an active member of the Teacher Leadership Academy through

5 The University of Connecticut and Windham Public School. She also presented at the NSTA Regional Conference on engineering in kindergarten. Districtwide Ms. Amber Kaemmerlen Ms. Kaemmerlen has accepted a position as a.4 FTE elementary Art teacher and will be splitting her time between Center School and Windermere School. She earned her Bachelor s at Johnson State College and her Master s at Antioch University New England. She is knowledgeable and experienced in drawing, ceramics, painting, printmaking, and photography. She comes to Ellington passionate about the many aspects of art and eager to create lessons that address specific desires and abilities while encouraging students to reach their full potential.
