Lecturer - Design Aug 2008 to the present University of the West Indies Visual Arts Unit; Dept. of Creative and Festival Arts Responsibilities include: Developing the content for and delivering courses in graphic design and product design at undergraduate level, and design strategy and new product design and development (the latter at the UWI Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business) at post- graduate level. Supervising undergraduate capstone projects in Product and Graphic Design. Supervising postgraduate practica for students of Master s in Creative Design Entrepreneurship. Supervising of Caribbean Studies thesis for undergraduate students in Design and Fine Arts. Caribbean Studies is a yearlong research course of which the final output is a word research paper. Supported Italian design consultant Giulio Vinaccia to develop products for a group of Trinidadian artisans in preparation for the Design Caribbean Show in Santo Domingo Lead Consultant Aug - Dec 2010 Arts and Crafts Sector Baseline Survey Project Export Development Unit of the Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS- EDU) Visited all nine OECS members. Facilitated stakeholder workshops and conducted diagnostic visits to stakeholders. Prepared country reports and regional strategy for the Arts and Crafts Sector. Design Consultant Caribbean Export Development Company (CEDA) Participated in the International Contemporary Furniture Fair New York May 2010 as a member of CEDA s New Caribbean Design collective, as one of five Caribbean designers working with Canadian design Patty Johnson and producers throughout the Caribbean to prepare a collection of high- end designer products to be launched at the International Contemporary Furniture Developed products for the international market with local artisans and provided feedback on existing products. 5 Developed products and export readiness training and for an international trade show for stakeholder companies in Kenya Supervised local design consultant in the development of products and the conduct of a baseline survey to assess the export readiness of the artisans selected for this program. Developed the export promotion display and market testing strategy for the EPC handicrafts at the Messe Ambiente Fair February Product Development Expert Aug Sept 2008 Export Promotion Council of Kenya / Commonwealth Secretariat Responsible for product design, design and export readiness training and preparation for an international trade show for 20 Kenyan companies that produced wood, soapstone, jewellery, clay and ceramic handicrafts. Led the market testing strategy for these products at Messe Tendence Fair in July Product Designer Sept 2005 July 2007 The Steelpan Research Laboratory UWI / Government of Trinidad & Tobago Part of Research Design Team, led by Prof. Brian Copeland, on the Percussive Harmonic Instrument (PHI) which is an electronic innovation of the steelpan. Researched and designed the shape of the new instrument, and the keyboard. Designed graphic promotional materials for the PHI launch. Project Coordinator Feb July 2005 Link- IT E- Solutions for Business Project Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Ltd. / Commonwealth Secretariat Managed and implemented project to increase ICT usage and improve entrepreneurial skills among urban and rural Ugandan women entrepreneurs. 6 Activities undertaken included developing project budget, conducting needs assessment survey, proposal and report writing, development of training schedules, training materials and, organizational templates, development of TORs for partner consultants, monitoring and evaluation of project and work done by consultants. Other activities undertaken at UWEAL included conducting trade promotion, business development and product development advisory workshops and training. Research Experience (a) Primary Art Education Text and Resource Materials Developed a methodology for conducting art instruction and art appreciation activities for young children. (b) Strategic Plan for the Visual Arts Unit Jan - June 2013 Led the Visual Arts Unit through a strategic planning activity. Surveyed 85 alumni, 14 current students, 11 lecturers, as well as met with external stakeholders to develop the strategy for the Visual Arts Unit.
