1 Fall 2015 Season of Lively Family Programs Begins at the Jewish Museum in September New York, NY - The Jewish Museum launches its fall 2015 season of family programs in September with a lively array of concerts, art workshops, and more. The fall line-up includes Sunday concerts by Alison Faith Levy on October 11, The FunkeyMonkeys on October 25, Ralph s World on November 8, Joanie Leeds and the Nightlights on December 20, and Oran Etkin s Timbalooloo on December 25. Also on the schedule are: Family Days on November 15 and December 6; holiday and vacation week drop-in art workshops October 1 and 2 and December 27, 28, 29 & 31; and family art activities every Sunday starting September 13. In addition, families can visit Archaeology Zone: Discovering Treasures from Playgrounds to Palaces. In this engaging and thoroughly interactive experience, children become archaeologists as they search for clues about ancient and modern objects. Visitors can discover what happens after archaeologists unearth artifacts and bring them back to their labs for indepth analysis. Children ages 3 through 10 magnify, sketch, and weigh objects from the past and the present, piece together clay fragments, interpret symbols, and dress in costumes. The children s exhibition is open every day except Wednesday and Saturday. FALL 2015 FAMILY PROGRAM SCHEDULE Thursday, October 1 and Friday, October 2 DROP-IN ART WORKSHOP: NATURE PRINTS FOR SUKKOT 1pm 4pm Participants can create festive prints using photo-sensitive paper and objects from nature, producing images in the spirit of holiday of Sukkot and inspired by photography on view in the Museum s galleries. Kids will also be able to turn their prints into playful wall decorations. Sundays, October 4, November 22, and December 13 SUNDAY ART DISCOVERIES 11:30am 12:30pm Ages 4 to 10 Each month, children can engage with works of art through activities and gallery tours that focus on themes related to special exhibitions.

2 October 4 Colorful Characters, with a tour of Becoming Jewish: Warhol s Liz and Marilyn and Unorthodox November 22 Imagine the Journey, with a tour of Masterpieces and Curiosities: Alfred Stieglitz s The Steerage December 13 Objects the Shine, with a tour of Culture and Continuity: The Jewish Journey Sunday, October 11 CONCERT: ALISON FAITH LEVY 11:30am Ages 3 to 8 Alison Faith Levy (formerly Sippy Alison of the beloved kids psychedelic band The Sippy Cups) and her Big Time Tot Rock Band come to the Museum from San Francisco to perform 60s-style tunes from her albums, The Start of Things and World of Wonder. Sundays, October 11 and November 8 10:30am 12:30pm ACCESS FAMILY WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS Ages 5 to 17 Families who have children with developmental and learning disabilities will visit an exhibition with a Museum educator and then create their own works of art. The workshop includes gallery activities, an art project, and snacks. Advance registration is required - space is limited - parents can schoolaccess@thejm.org to register. Sunday, October 18 ART WORKSHOP AND GALLERY TOUR: Pop Art and Beyond 10:30am 12:30pm Ages 6 to 10 Drawing inspiration from Andy Warhol and contemporary artists featured in current exhibitions at the Museum, participants will learn printmaking techniques and experiment with color, layering, and shadow to create unique portraits. Tickets: $15 per adult; $10 per child; $10 adult Jewish Museum family level member; $8 child Jewish Museum family level member Advance registration is required - space is limited - parents can call to register.

3 Sunday, October 25 CONCERT: THE FUNKEYMONKEYS - TWO SHOWS! 11:30am AND 2:00pm Ages 2 to 6 Families can groove and giggle together to the hilarious antics and soulful sounds of Museum favorites, the FunkeyMonkeys, performing songs from their albums Mustache and Sing Dance and Underpants. Sunday, November 8 CONCERT: RALPH S WORLD 11:30am Ages 3 to 8 Families will visit Ralph s World, the musical planet where kids rock out to high-energy tunes by the Grammy-nominated, Chicago-based indie rocker Ralph Covert and his band. Sunday, November 15 THE POWER OF PICTURES FAMILY DAY Noon - 4:00pm Kids can design vibrant posters, be photographed in surreal scenes, rock out with the band Lyagushki, and explore the power of the camera to capture the world around us through Russian and English tours of the exhibition, The Power of Pictures: Early Soviet Photography, Early Soviet Film. Sunday, December 6 HANUKKAH FAMILY DAY Noon - 4:00pm Children can construct sculptural Hanukkah menorahs with funky found objects, dance to the music of ShirLaLa, see the Hanukkah story brought to life through a drawing performance with Jeff Hopkins, and explore the Museum s world-famous collection of Hanukkah lamps.

4 Sunday, December 20 ART WORKSHOP AND GALLERY TOUR: 3D to 2D: Photographic City Scenes 10:30am 12:30pm Ages 8 to 12 Participants can explore the process of photographer Vik Muniz and other artists through a gallery tour of the exhibition, Masterpieces & Curiosities: Alfred Stieglitz s The Steerage, and then use found objects, photography, and dramatic lighting to create unique works of art. Tickets: $15 per adult; $10 per child; $10 adult Jewish Museum family level member; $8 child Jewish Museum family level member Advance registration is required space is limited parents can call to register. CONCERT: JOANIE LEEDS AND THE NIGHTLIGHTS 2:00pm Ages 3-8 Families can enjoy the unique and playful sounds of Brooklyn-based kindie rocker Joanie Leeds, ranging from pop-rock to gospel to country music, including hits from her latest albums, Good Egg and Meshugana. Friday, December 25 CONCERT: ORAN ETKIN S TIMBALOOLOO - TWO SHOWS! 11:30am AND 2:00pm Ages 2-7 From the music of Africa to klezmer and jazz, Oran Etkin s performances weave together global melodies and rhythms. Etkin will play songs from his album, Wake Up Clarinet! and other surprising treats in this musical world party. Tickets: $20 per adult; $15 per child; $17 adult Jewish Museum family level member; $13 child Jewish Museum family level member Sunday, December 27; Monday, December 28; Tuesday, December 29; Thursday, December 31 VACATION WEEK DROP-IN WORKSHOP: Sculptural Transportation 1pm 4pm Kids can experiment with paper sculpture to create imaginative forms of magical transportation, inspired by the exhibition Masterpieces & Curiosities: Alfred Stieglitz s The Steerage; and see a scale model of the ship pictured in Stieglitz s striking photograph on view in the galleries.

5 Sundays beginning September 13 DROP-IN ART WORKSHOP 1 to 4 pm Ages 3 and up A hands-on art workshop where families can create art inspired by special exhibitions and the Museum s collection, and including sculpture, mixedmedia collage, painting, puppet-making, and more. STORYBOOKS & ART 1:30 pm Ages 3 to 7 Children can listen to stories selected from the Museum s library of children's book favorites and then participate in a gallery activity. SECOND SUNDAYS DIG DROP-IN Noon to 3 pm Ages 3 to 10 A simulated archaeological dig is open for families on the second Sunday of each month. ADULTS ARE ASKED TO ACCOMPANY THEIR CHILDREN TO ALL PROGRAMS. The Jewish Museum offers a state-of-the-art audio guide for children ages 5 to 12 to its permanent exhibition, Culture and Continuity: The Jewish Journey. Visitors are able to enjoy the children s audio guide free with Museum admission. The audio guides are sponsored by Bloomberg. Support The Edgar M. Bronfman Center for Education s school and family programs are supported by endowed funds established by the Bronfman Family, the Muriel and William Rand Fund, the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, the Helena Rubinstein Foundation, Rosalie Klein Adolf, the Kekst Family, and Mrs. Ida C. Schwartz in memory of Mr. Bernard S. Schwartz. Family programming is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council and Councilmember Daniel R. Garodnick. Access Family Workshops are made possible by the Ellen & Ronald Block Family Foundation, with additional support from the J.E. and Z.B. Butler Foundation and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

6 About The Jewish Museum Located on Museum Mile at Fifth Avenue and 92nd Street, the Jewish Museum is one of the world's preeminent institutions devoted to exploring art and Jewish culture from ancient to contemporary, offering intellectually engaging and educational exhibitions and programs for people of all ages and backgrounds. The Museum was established in 1904, when Judge Mayer Sulzberger donated 26 ceremonial objects to The Jewish Theological Seminary as the core of a museum collection. Today, the Museum maintains a collection of over 30,000 works of art, artifacts, and broadcast media reflecting global Jewish identity, and presents a diverse schedule of internationally acclaimed temporary exhibitions. The Jewish Museum is located at 1109 Fifth Avenue at 92nd Street, New York City. Museum hours are Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, 11am to 5:45pm; Thursday, 11am to 8pm; and Friday, 11am to 4pm. Museum admission is $15.00 for adults, $12.00 for senior citizens, $7.50 for students, free for visitors 18 and under and Jewish Museum members. Admission is Pay What You Wish on Thursdays from 5pm to 8pm and free on Saturdays.
