4 Group Website B The Farmers Museum More House For judging at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, students are asked to use the Library entrance (off the fenced park on Fair St.). Final run-off judging: 2:00 pm 4:00 pm Due to the large number of entries in some categories, judging was split into more than one group. As a result, final run-off judging will select the top projects from each first-round group to determine the entries to advance to the National Competition. During final run-off judging, a new set of judges will review the projects ONLY; no interviews take place at this time. As a result, the only run-offs that will be announced are for the Performance and Documentary categories. Students in these categories must be available to perform or run their entries beginning at 2:00 PM. Exhibit, Paper and Web Site run-offs will not be announced; and judging for those categories does not require the students presence. 8 Important Information Shuttle Bus Service Free shuttle service will be available on Monday from approximately 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. The shuttle will stop at: The Farmers Museum in front of the Museum Shop Fenimore Art Museum main entrance Clark Sport Center (shuttle will not run to this location after 1:30 pm) Otesaga Resort Hotel lower level entrance National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum at the Library Entrance in Cooper Park Shuttle service will not run through the Awards Ceremony. Free Admission New York History Day participants, their families and teachers are invited to visit The Farmers Museum and Fenimore Art Museum on Sunday and Monday with free admission The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is generously providing free admission on Monday to History Day students and their families. Please stop by the Registration Table in the Main Barn to pick up a wristband before you go. Enter through the main entrance of the Hall of Fame and show your wristband at the admissions desk to receive your complimentary pass. Fenimore Art Museum Rules Non-Flash photography is allowed in all museum exhibits in 2018 only. Please check with the front desk before taking any photographs. Food and beverages are not allowed in the museum galleries. You may enjoy snacks in the Fenimore Café or on our outdoor terrace All backpacks must be left in vehicles or the coat room Please do not touch the paintings and artworks. We want to keep them safe for future generations Parking Cooperstown is a small village and parking can be limited. You should be able to find parking at each of the judging sites; however you also can park at the Trolley Parking lot located just north of the Fenimore Art Museum (see map on page 5) and take the shuttle into the village. Evaluation Forms Evaluation forms will be sent to participants the week following the New York History Day. Each individual in a group entry will receive his or her own opportunity to provide feedback. Questions or Concerns? Questions relating to New York History Day or the museum facilities should be directed to the Registration personnel located in the Main Barn entrance of The Farmers Museum. 8

9 Things to See and Do The Farmers Museum: The museum, founded in 1943, comprises a working farmstead, a recreated historic village, the Empire State Carousel, and a 1918 stone barn listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum preserves important examples of upstate New York architecture and early agricultural tools and equipment. Its collection of more than 23,000 items encompasses significant historic objects ranging from butter molds to carriages, hand planes to plows. Fenimore Art Museum: The beauty of the museum setting is matched by the quality of the collections it houses, including some of the nation s finest examples of American landscape, history and genre paintings, American folk art, photography, and American Indian art. Fenimore Art Museum honors the extraordinary ability of ordinary people to shape American culture. Cooperstown and surrounding area: A visit to Main Street can provide excellent dinning, shopping and activities for the afternoon. Just hop on the trolley and you re there! National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum If you re in Cooperstown, how can you not go? Just show your wristband at the Main entrance to receive your complimentary passes. Location: 25 Main Street Lake Front Park Weather permitting, it s a wonderful place to view Otsego Lake! Location: At the end of Pioneer Street Doubleday Field It s where baseball was said to be invented. Legends such as the Babe himself have graced it with their cleats. Location: End of Doubleday parking lot off Main St. Walking Tour of Cooperstown Stop by the Chamber of Commerce and get your map of Cooperstown for a self-guided tour. There s great architecture and history around every corner! Location: 31 Chestnut Street Fly Creek Cider Mill: This Historic, water-powered cider mill has been pressing fresh, sweet cider for 150 years. Experience the Mill Marketplace's daily tasting of over 40 specialty foods. Location: 4 miles north of Cooperstown off State Route 28 in Fly Creek. Follow the signs! Places to Eat Fenimore Art Museum Café: Serving light sandwiches and lunch fare. Located through the Gift Shop on the 1 st Floor. Cooperstown Diner: 136 1/2 Main Street. Open 6am - 8pm everyday. Serving breakfast till closing. Depot Deli: 43 Pioneer St. Deli sandwiches and soups! Open 9am 3pm. The Doubleday Café: 93 Main St. Great place for American fare. New York Pizzeria: 74 Chestnut Street. Serving pizza and Italian food. Sal's Pizzeria and Restaurant: 110 Main Street. Traditional NY pizza. Stagecoach Coffee: 31 Pioneer Street. Serving coffee, soups, sandwiches and pastries. Four miles south of town on Chestnut Street/State Route 28, near the hotels: McDonald's Pizza Hut 9

Hanford Mills Museum for an outstanding entry that explores the impact of entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, technology, energy generation, natural resources or sustainability on rural life. Dr. Monroe Fordham Memorial History Award for an outstanding entry focused on African American History in New York State The Farmers Museum Award for an outstanding agriculture-related entry National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum Award for an outstanding sports-related entry Fenimore Art Museum Award for an outstanding New York State history entry Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation Awards for an outstanding group exhibit focused on Long Island or New York State History 2018 New York State History Day Closing Remarks Immediately following the award ceremony, 1 st and 2 nd place winners, their teachers and parents should report to the podium for important information about the National History Day Contest.
