2 Programme Thursday, 24 April : Strategy Meeting Meeting of the presidents of the Local Chapters, members of the oikos Foundation, the oikos Executive Board, PhD Fellows, advisors. ESG: Blue room : Lunch 15 18: Sustainable City Tour The students from all over the world get to know each other during a guided tour through the city of Cologne. At selected sites, they will discover the history and the sustainable development of Cologne. Starting point: Youth hostel 18 19: Dinner University//Mensa : Address of Welcome 19.30: Introductory Lecture on Sustainable Business What are the most important trends in sustainable business? Will it gain in importance? An overview will be provided by Mathias Onischka (Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy). University//Central Building: HS XVIII Friday, 25 April : Case Study Competition There will be two case studies out of which the oikos members can choose one to work on. The participants develop strategies and compete for the best solutions. The first Case Study is on bioplastics a raw material for sustainable products with great economic potential. What product strategy would a company like BASF choose? Together with Dr. Jens Hamprecht (BASF) we will discuss the ideas. KHG The second one will be in cooperation with Uwe Bergmann, Head of Sustainability Issue Management at the German company Henkel. This case will be about water scarcity and the challenges that derive from it for a consumer goods company. ESG: Hall, Blue Room, Red Room Lunch will be served parallel to the working phase. The presentations will start at and/or respectively : Dinner University//Mensa : Panel Discussion: Dimensions of Sustainable Business Product development, process optimization, marketing sustainable business has to get the basics right. Where are the differences here, compared to conventional business? What are the obstacles? What are the impacts of changing lifestyles and increasing consumer awareness? 3 Saturday, 26 April : Skill Workshops In small groups the oikos students learn useful methods and skills for the internal organization of their chapters and the efficient execution of projects. The workshops focus on the following topics including the acquisition of sponsors, rhetoric, presentation techniques and techniques of efficient group organization: 16 18: Sustainable Production in Practice We will visit a Colognebased organic beer brewery. 4 The Spring Meeting Twice a year, the oikos students from all over the world meet in order to talk about experiences and project ideas and to enhance the strategy for the oikos network. Every meeting serves as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and the discussion of current sustainabilityrelated issues. Apart from internal activities, a number of public lectures and workshops focusing on a central subject are offered in cooperation with experts from business and academia. oikos students and guests have the opportunity to take part in discussions and jointly develop solutions for current problems. The last meetings took place in St. Gallen, Paris and Warsaw, focusing on the topics Economic Challenges and Business Opportunities in the Energy Sector, Sustainable Development: What Role to Play for Finance and Limits to Growth Growing Beyond Limits?. Located in St. Gallen, Switzerland, oikos International is the umbrella organization of all local oikos chapters. The association supports the work of the local groups by offering skill seminars and establishing contacts to key decision makers from politics and business. oikos Cologne oikos Cologne was founded at the University of Cologne in In close cooperation with university chairs and businesses we have taken the challenge to develop solutions to assure the sustainable development of our planet.
