1 4 8 November 2013 Welcome to International s Global Week of Prayer Guide Imagine immersing the family in prayer 24/7! That is the plan for the 2013 International Week of Prayer. The Living Hope process has identified the need to grow the prayer life of around the world. As a result, the 2013 Week of Prayer will be radically different! To give everyone the opportunity to be part of praying and sharing prayer requests, each Country will be given a specific time to pray for one hour during the week the wave of prayer will continually move around the globe. The prayer wave will start on Monday 4 November (Sunday 3rd for some) and continue through to Friday 8 November (already Saturday in some areas). Regional and international staff and volunteers, friends and supporters are all welcome to participate at a time and place convenient to you. The Global Week of Prayer Guide is designed to assist us in our prayers for our world, our ministry, and our as we continue the Living Hope process. Every day we invite you to share comments, prayers, and prayer requests using the Living Hope face book group. Everyone should check face book to see what has been posted before they begin their hour of prayer. If you are not part of this group you can receive an invitation to join by contacting Jenny Stewart, jennys@su international.org or Clayton Fergie claytonf@su international.org Please plan to join us so that an unbroken wave of prayer continues to move around the world throughout the week. 2 Scripture Union Global Prayer Guide For each s hour of prayer Working with the churches, Scripture Union aims a) to make God's Good News known to children, young people and families and b) to encourage people of all ages to meet God daily through the Bible and prayer so that they may come to personal faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, grow in Christian Maturity and become both committed church members and servants of a world in need. At the beginning of our prayer time, we commit ourselves afresh to the mission to which God calls us in our obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ and in reliance on the Holy Spirit. Prayer for children, youth, families, and leaders The Living Hope process began with listening to children, young people, and leaders. Pray for the following being as specific as possible: The children in our nation and those we are in contact with through our ministries The young people in our nation those we are in contact with through our ministries Family life in our nation and families we are in contact with through our ministries The leaders of our nation and in our churches From Living Hope Listening A most hopeful life would be a place where: There would be no thugs. There would be people who would encourage.. Mother would have a full time job. Sick people would be well. Parents would live together. There would be respect Hope comes from a consistent, dynamic, deep and direct relationship with God much time with God to have answers to prayers... to be around Christians to have the feeling of doing something useful, to fight for an important cause, to help others, to have responsibilities. In a most hopeful life there is: No poverty, no worries, no sadness or sorrow, a life of peace and harmony among all with many opportunities in life to continue getting ready in my studies, with money to cover the cost of my studies and the expenses of my house, living in my home with my family, with God in my heart. One of the greatest problems is currently facing with in our country is that the religious body of the Nation is not in full readiness to support and promote Christian organizations that seek the holistic building of the citizens in the country. We learned that for children and young people long for stable happy homes. For many, families are a loving caring place that brings support, peace and confidence. For others, families are a place of brokenness, conflict, pressure and insecurity.

3 Prayer for Ministry and Leadership The Living Hope process identified the need to maintain our reliance on God. Pray for the following being as specific as possible: Give thanks for the ways God is using ministries to impact the lives of children, youth, families and communities Pray for the ministries of Pray for staff, volunteers and Boards/Councils/Committees Pray for particular needs of the at this time From Living Hope Listening We need to remain at the cutting edge, having the time for staff to keep in touch with the issues in youth culture and being able to recruit, train and support volunteers. Otherwise it will become just the paid staff running everything and our churches 'outsourcing'. We are not doing enough to ensure young people walk a long road of discipleship; losing contact with young people; seeing the Bible as an add on, and not engaging with God in Scripture; not trusting God for the miraculous. Other concerns were: Decline of Bible reading literacy: drop of interest and desire to read Bible. Lack of human and non human resources, staff training, and high staff turnover Increasing competition from other churches, NGOs and para church organizations Decline of volunteerism Prayer for the Scripture Union Global Community At the Living Hope Event in Malaysia we explored our changing world, God s mission in a changing world and s mission in a changing world. Pray for the global community That God will give us hope and courage as we seek to fulfill our aims in keeping with the principles and values identified through the Living Hope process For priority plans as we seek to develop ministry, leadership, and our life together For courage and wisdom as we seek to develop a future global structure/framework For international and regional leadership (You may also like to use the International prayer directory to pray for individual s) Living Hope Key Principles / Values 1. Aims are fulfilled in creative ways that are fresh in style and substance 2. Ministry speaks to the deep structures of our cultures, relates to real life, is an expression of the Kingdom 3. Willingness to take risks 4. Bible ministry is relational and creates belonging 5. People are treated with dignity, respect, and value and relationships are deep and authentic 6. We focus on the outcome & ongoing impact not just the activity 7. We have dialogue with other faiths without compromising the truth 8. We live as people of hope in a broken world in ways that help young people see the Living Hope

4 Scripture Union Global Waves of Prayer Scheduled Prayer s for s New Zealand time will be used to track the 24-hour prayer cycles. Prayer will commence in New Zealand at (9am) on Monday 4 November. There will be continual waves of prayer - 24 hours each day until Friday 8 November (New Zealand time) which is in parts of the Americas.
