3 1 TDSB S JEAN LUMB PUBLIC SCHOOL IS SCHEDULED TO OPEN IN SEPTEMBER 2019 Registration begins in February 2019 Located on the Railway Lands at Fort York Blvd and Brunel Court (also known as Block 31). Construction commenced in Summer Through public meetings and working group meetings, the multi-use integrated facility was designed in close collaboration with the community in order to respond to the particular needs and desires in this growing vertical neighbourhood. This shared site will include: Community Recreation Centre Child Care Centre TDSB School TCDSB School Multi-functional event and market space facing the park. 3

5 HOW IS THE ATTENDANCE AREA DECIDED? 1. Long - Term Program and Accommodation Strategy (LTPAS) TDSB s Long-Term Program and Accommodation Strategy (LTPAS) provides an approach to program and accommodation planning with a 10 year timeframe that allows for flexibility and responsiveness to a changing environment by including an annual cycle of review. Long - Term Program and Accommodation Strategy as it relates to Jean Lumb Public School The following study was approved by Board on June 21, 2017 o Boundary Change Study: Explore a review to establish a JK-8 boundary for the new Railway Lands school A series of staff working meetings have been conducted by TDSB staff to review data and discuss impacts of the initial preliminary Jean Lumb PS (formerly known as the Railway Land school). 6

8 If you are interested, there are a number of special programs that are offered in the area. 8 3 ARTS TDSB S JEAN LUMB PUBLIC SCHOOL WILL OFFER A COMPLETE LOCAL REGULAR PROGRAM WHEN IT OPENS Special programs can be considered after the first year of a new school ALTERNATIVE FRENCH PROGRAMS In addition to the Core French program provided in all schools, the TDSB offers two specialized French programs: 1. Extended French SPECIAL EDUCATION Junior Extended French (JEF) - Grade 4 Entry Deadline for applications: Thursday, February 8, & MORE 2. Early French Immersion - Senior Kindergarten (SK) Entry Applications will open again in Fall 2018 Please ask us about them! Extended French - Grade 7 Entry Deadline for applications: Thursday, February 8, 2018 ***Limited spaces

9 9 4 STREET SAFETY IS A MAJOR PRIORITY We are working with the City to ensure streets are safe for students and families What has the TDSB done to date? Directly involved in the design process for the site and school. Our primary consideration is to foster a walkable environment Design considerations to provide active and safe options for Jean Lumb PS: The new school is connected to the bicycle network, linked to the Gardiner/Lakeshore linear park and pathway system (access through Canoe Landing Park), and Public Transit routes along Bathurst and Spadina Student Play areas are defined and fenced, including shared use of adjacent turf field in the Canoe Landing Park How will the TDSB continue to address safety? Jean Lumb Public School can participate in the TDSB Traffic Management Program (TMP) Schools work with a facilitator, TDSB Design and Construction and the City of Toronto to identify opportunities to improve the built environment and promote active, safe and sustainable transportation within their community.

10 10 5 THERE WILL BE CHILD CARE WITHIN THE MULTI- SITE FACILITY There are also additional options in the area. The City of Toronto will be building a child care centre, within the multi-site facility. Canoe Landing Child Care Centre is scheduled to open in the fall of 2019 and will serve 52 children from birth to 4 years of age. Prior to the opening of the Jean Lumb Public School, the TDSB will assess demand to develop a before-and after-school program for kindergarten to grade 6. This process will include surveying families whose children will be transferring to Jean Lumb in fall 2019, and new kindergarten students.
