4 What does the research say about the IB impact on college preparation?

5 IB students feel confident when they attend college 2012 study of Chicago public schools interviewed Diploma Program alumni and found that: Students reported they felt prepared by the Diploma Program to succeed in college. Students reported that they: felt prepared to succeed and excel in their coursework had strong academic skills, especially related to analytical writing learned academic behaviors like work ethic, motivation, time management, and helpseeking that were sources of strength in the transition to college-level work identified preparation in the IB program as the source of their success as college students.

7 The average acceptance rate of IB students into university/college is 22% higher than the average acceptance rate of the total population. The acceptance rate of IB students into Ivy League institutions (Princeton, Yale, Brown, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, University of Pennsylvania) is between 3% and 13% higher compared to the total population acceptance rate. 11 Research says that IB students more likely to attend, succeed and graduate from selective colleges In a 2012 study of diverse alumni from IB program in Chicago public schools, researchers from the University of Chicago found that, compared to a matched sample, DP students are more likely to: enroll in college attend a more selective college stay enrolled in college This study suggests that IB students are not only going to better colleges in greater numbers but are performing better once there.

12 IB students more likely to succeed in college A 2010 study that looked at performance on IB exams and college GPA of over 1500 IB students enrolled in the University of California system found: IB students earned higher GPAs and graduated at higher rates than a matched comparison group. This held across all family income levels performance in the Diploma Program was the strongest predictor of college GPA.

13 IB students graduate from college at higher rates The 2011 study of IB students experiences after high school found that IB students graduated from college at higher rates, with 81% of IB students graduating within 6 years of enrolling full-time at a 4-year institution, compared to the national average of 57%.

14 Colleges say that IB prepares students for college success IB is well known to us as excellent preparation. Success in an IB program correlates well with success at Harvard. Other colleges attended by this class were Clemson, Georgia Tech, Naval Academy, Jacksonville University, University of San Diego, University of Maryland, UNF and USF. IB 2013 graduates Cornell (NROTC full scholarship) several received scholarship offers from UCF, USF,UNF,Auburn, LSU and Alabama. *96% of RHS/IB students who applied to UF were accepted *98% of the RHS/IB students who applied to FSU were accepted *99% of the RHS/IB seniors who applied to UCF were accepted Other colleges attended by this class are Georgia Tech, Auburn, USF, Flagler, UNF, Lenoir Rhine, Michigan, Stetson & U.S. Air Force Academy. 21 Cody, Class of 2014 was selected to be on the Youth Advisory Council by Congressman Ted Yoho. The Third Congressional District Student Advisory Council which will meet with Congressman Yoho at least once a quarter to share ideas about legislation, views on current events, and ways everyone can make a difference at the local level.

22 Sam.RHS IB & UF graduate, was featured in Luke Bryan s country Video, Crash my Party you can find it on YouTube! He s been on local radio and TV stations. Sam is a singer/songwriter/actor. Sam moved to Nashville to begin his dream! Sam s brother, Seth, graduated from RHS IB, UF and Tulane Law School. The youngest member of the family, Blake, is currently a student in IB 11.

25 Process: 1-Once applications have been turned in and reviewed, your acceptance letter will be mailed to you along with your course selection sheet, honor code, commitment agreement and *SPI form [if needed]. Acceptance letters will be mailed Feb You return your course selection sheet completed with the electives you choose, signed honor code and commitment agreement. You also return signed SPI for us to process. The deadline date for this is Feb When the High Schools start the registration process for other students please tell your counselor or teacher that you have already done a course selection sheet for IB. * SPI form is a special student assignment form for the IB program to attend a school out of your zoned school district- transportation is not provided
