3 DUAL ENROLLMENT PROGRAM Dual Enrollment courses are offered on campus in conjunction with Florida International University. Students will receive credit both at the high school and college level. Students need to earn a "C" or higher in the course. Dual enrollment courses are offered during the school day, as part of the student s regular schedule on HML campus. Eligibility: Students that have a minimum 3.0 high school un-weighted grade point average (GPA) Permission from Parent/Guardian, high school administrator and counselor An understanding that the course work necessary to succeed in dual enrollment courses will be greater than in general education high school courses Students participating in dual enrollment must earn a grade of C or higher in their college level courses to continue participation. 17 PERFORMING AND VISUAL ARTS Performing and Visual Arts Program at HML offers studenst the opportunity to explore their interest in a specific field as a possible career choice. Students will be required to follow a recommended class schedule each of their years in the academy. A student may enter the academy at any grade level with approval of the academy staff. Numerous field trips and performances will be required of the academy student. Upon graduation, the student will receive a special letter of academy completion and recommendations to colleges and universities of their choice (in addition to their high school diploma). Graduation from an academy program is considered very prestigious and aids students with university admission. For the NON-ACADEMY student, most of the same classes are offered, but without all of the academy requirements. 22 JROTC PROGRAM Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Department (JROTC) - This exciting elective course for young men and women with the desire to learn leadership abilities is offered to all grade levels. You will earn credit towards graduation while learning how to take charge. JROTC teaches a variety of subjects throughout the year. You will be given (at no charge) complete Army uniforms to be worn one day a week, and you will be able to earn rank and awards. The program is organized as an actual U.S. Army unit with all the leadership positions held by the student cadets. This elective course does not require any military service after graduation.
