2 Page 2 Jaguar Preparatory Academy Student Led Conferences In December, the 9th grade Jaguar Preparatory Academy held the student-led conferences for first semester. The conferences were a HUGE success! Each student presented a portfolio of his/her learning to a caring adult in their life. The feedback collected from our post-conference surveys was overwhelmingly positive. We are so proud of the way our kids represented themselves and our school, and we can't wait to do it again on April 23rd! The Jaguar Lyceum PSAT Sophomores have been receiving their PSAT results from Mrs. Brown, guidance counselor. The scores are an indicator of a student's readiness for college and provides feedback to students on their areas of strength and areas for future academic growth. The PSAT may also help determine which scholarships students may be eligible for. New State Assessment PSL was selected by the state to participate in the field test for the new writing assessment. This is an excellent opportunity for us to pilot the test and it gives our students authentic practice prior to the "real" test in March. The writing field test will be administered to all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students beginning January 12.

3 Page 3 Jaguar Family Newsletter Visual and Performing Arts Although the VPAT academy prides itself on its Drama, Dance, Band, Television/Media, Art and Culinary classes, it also encompasses numerous academic classes in which much creative work is accomplished by students. As with all academies, during the last two weeks of December, all academic and most elective classes have been involved in Mid-Term / Semester exams. This gives students the opportunity to show what they ve learned over the first half of the school year. However, the creative process never stops in VPAT. Over the past several months, Ms. Cooper [Wed Instruction/Design], in collaboration with members of our Art department and English Department, has been in the process of developing a web-based literary magazine in which student work can be viewed by visitors. We have many talented and motivated young poets, song writers and novelists in our English classes and we hope that their work can be enjoyed by many through this project. A student magazine of this type connects and relates the arts to literature and affords a forum for our students to express themselves creatively. The project removes our school newspaper from hard-copy and takes it into the 21st century as an on-line format. 4 Page 4 Notes from the Athletic Director Jaguar fans, As the Girls' soccer season comes to an end, we look forward to our upcoming district tournament. It has been a fun and interesting year. Our seniors have shown great leadership and our underclassmen are showing a maturity and knowledge of the game that has us excited for next season. We broke in our new JV Coach this year, Ms. Patel. She did an amazing job at honing the girls dribbling and passing skills. I am very proud of the girls and I am sad to see that soccer season is coming to a close. I wish my seniors the best of luck and look forward to reloading with next years incoming freshmen.. Youth volunteers are welcomed. The park is diverse in the volunteer capacities, just as the park itself. Care for the live animals, work in the welcome center, help at events, facilitate programs, or work on the grounds just to name a few options.
