1 EDINBURGH COMMUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION Edinburgh, Indiana October 20, 2014 The Board of School Trustees met in regular session at 6:00 p.m. on this date at the Administration Building, 202 S. Keeley Street, Edinburgh, IN with Mr. Lollar presiding. Mr. Hardin and Mrs. Weddle were absent. Also attending were Lou Ellen Watts, Erv Watts, Sheila Horton, Emma Wade, Addie Watts, Kathy Watts, Bill Watts, Jessica Moreno, Manuel Moreno, Yolanda Hernandez, Andrea Perry, Jon Price, Kevin Rockey, Dr. William A. Glentzer, Tammy Lewis and Susan Ingels. Everyone was led in prayer by Mrs. Hamm and the Pledge of Allegiance by Mr. Lollar. PRESENTATIONS A. Building Reports Mrs. Perry, East Side Elementary Principal, stated East Side students just completed another successful walk-a-thon and raised almost $10,000 for student activities. There was a great turnout for the walk-a-thon and students will be receiving spirit wear as prizes. Thank you to the custodial and maintenance staff for their hard work over Fall Break; everything looks great. Today we started Wolf Pack for 3 rd, 4 th, and 5 th grade boys. This week we will be celebrating the end of the first quarter. Mr. Jon Price, Edinburgh Middle School Principal, stated the middle school students recently saw a bullying presentation and discussed how bullying affects everybody. The Middle School is working hard to make improvements for our students using weekly assessments. Friday night is the Halloween Dance. The Middle School Football team completed their season with 2 wins and 4 losses; the 8 th Grade Volleyball team completed their season with 8 wins and 5 losses; the 7 th Grade Volleyball team finished the season with 8 wins and 6 losses. The fall awards program will be November 6, The 5 th and 6 th grade Girls Basketball teams will open their season on October 27, 2014.
2 Mr. Kevin Rockey, Edinburgh High School Principal, stated the following athletes earned or were selected all conference in their respective sport: Junior, Mariah Weddle for Girls Golf; Senior, Courtney Woodall for Girls Cross Country; Juniors Lillie Parmer and Megan Rooks and Sophomore, Mara Cox for Girls Volleyball. The Mid-Hoosier Conference Banquet will be held on October 29, 2014 to honor our athletes and our 2014 Mid-Hoosier Conference Champions for Volleyball. The Lady Lancers finished the conference season undefeated 9-0 and never lost a set in conference play. In fall sports, Senior, Courtney Woodall was a regional qualifier in Cross Country; Girls Volleyball finished the season with 19 wins and 14 losses; Varsity Football finished the season with 3 wins and 6 losses; Boys Varsity Tennis finished the season with 4 wins and 12 losses; and Girls Golf finished their season with 4 wins and 6 losses. Mr. Rockey stated this Friday we will be taking some students explore IUPUC. Parent- Teacher Conferences are October 23, There will be a talent show on October 30, We will have our North Central (AdvancEd) visitation on November 11 & 12, B. Middle School Students of the Month Mr. Price presented the October Students of the Month: Jessica Moreno for 6 th grade, Addie Watts for 7 th grade and Emma Wade for 8 th grade. Mr. Price read a list of their accomplishments and presented each of the students with a certificate. PUBLIC COMMENTS REGARDING AGENDA ITEMS Mr. Lollar invited public comments regarding agenda items. There were no public comments. NEW BUSINESS A. Consent Agenda 1. Minutes: Minutes of the September 22, 2014 Board Meeting. 2. Claims for Payment: Claims # 5738 through and including #5819 and payroll dates of October 3, 2014 and October 17, Personnel: Recommendation to move Heather McManaway, Nurse s Assistant, from Class B to Class C on the non-certified pay scale; recommendation to approve Tonya Lollar as East Side Instructional Assistant for the school year beginning October 21, 2014; recommendation to approve Mike Bryant as Assistant Baseball Coach for the school year; recommendation to approve Jason Burton as Assistant Baseball Coach for the school year; recommendation to split the Assistant Baseball Coach s stipend of $1, between Mike Bryant and Jason Burton with both receiving $725.00; recommendation to approve Scott Harpring as volunteer baseball coach for the school year;
3 recommendation to approve Trevor Armel as volunteer baseball coach for the school year; recommendation to approve pending successful completion of background check, Robbie Clawson as volunteer baseball coach for the school year; recommendation to approve pending successful completion of background check, Sammy Wilkerson as volunteer baseball coach for the school year; recommendation to approve Stephen Clark as volunteer softball coach for the school year; recommendation to approve Julie Tatlock as volunteer 5 th and 6 th grade girls basketball coach for the school year; recommendation to approve medical leave request of Tammy Lewis beginning November 7, 2014 for approximately six (6) to eight (8) weeks. 4. Donations: $5, from Sonoco Flexible Packaging and distributed as follows: $1,200 to the Athletic Department, $100 to Varsity Boys Baseball, $100 to Varsity Boys Basketball, $100 to High School Yearbook, $900 to High School Student Activities, $500 to Middle School Student Activities, $200 to the Middle School S.W.I.P.E. program, $100 to East Side H.O.P.E. program, $650 to East Side Student Activities, $100 to the East Side Learning A-Z online program, $200 to East Side reading book program, $200 to East Side Good Choice Ticket contest, $200 to High School Hall of Fame fund, $200 to Edinburgh Dollars for Scholars and $250 to HMS Boosters group. 5. Series 2013 Bond Affidavit for Payment: $929 to Educational Furniture for bike rack at the MS/HS; $35,310 to Educational Furniture for playground equipment; $83, to Robertson Paving for tennis courts; $27, to Robertson Paving for FB bleacher concrete base; $6, to Robertson Paving for seal & stripe athletic field parking lot; $3, to Robertson Paving for seal & restripe ES playground; $14, to EZWatch for security camera system; $ to Marshall Mechanical for HVAC repairs; $ to Marshall Mechanical for East Side HVAC repairs; $3, to Fargo Insulation for HVAC repairs; $930 to Triangle Design L.L.C. for final payment for architectural services provided for the summer construction projects; $1, to Triangle Design L.L.C. for partial payment of architectural services provided for East Side secured entry project. Mrs. Taulman moved and Mrs. Hamm seconded a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented to the Board. There was no further discussion. Motion passed 3 yes, 0 no. B. Adoption of 2015 Budgets, Capital Projects Plan, Bus Replacement Plan and Resolutions (Action). Mrs. Lewis stated the budget is the same as presented at the Budget Hearing on September 22, Mrs. Lewis stated the budget has been advertised and this is the final step for Board approval. Mrs. Hamm moved and Mrs. Taulman seconded a motion to approve the adoption of the 2015 Budgets, Capital Projects Plan, Bus Replacement Plan and Resolutions as presented to the Board. There was no further discussion. Motion passed 3 yes, 0 no.
4 C Goals for Expenditure Categories (Action). Mrs. Lewis stated this is a requirement that is to be filed the same time that our budget is filed. Basically we are stating that we are not anticipating any major cuts at this point and we are not planning on increasing any of the levels of expenditures Mrs. Taulman moved and Mrs. Hamm seconded a motion to approve the 2015 Goals for Expenditure Categories as presented to the Board. There was no further discussion. Motion passed 3 yes, 0 no. D. Approval of Final Plans and to ascertain and approve quotes for East Side Elementary Secured Front Entrance (Action). Dr. Glentzer presented to the Board the final plans for East Side Elementary Secured Front Entrance and requested the Board authorize him to take and accept quotes as well as contract with various companies for said project. Dr. Glentzer stated we will stay within our budget to carry-out the project. Mrs. Taulman moved and Mrs. Hamm seconded a motion to approve the final plans and to ascertain and approve quotes for the East Side Elementary secured front entrance. There was no further discussion. Motion passed 3 yes, 0 no. E. Corporation Maintenance Update Dr. Glentzer gave an update on the corporation maintenance. Evan Hoskins is doing most of the HVAC work. The pump at East Side was repaired. David and Evan have really worked hard at cleaning up the boiler room and storage room. Curtis is doing the inventory of the maintenance supplies. There is a problem with the chillers at East Side; there are two (2) compressors that are not working. There are two different companies coming in to look at it and give us a quote for repairs. G. Update on Construction Projects Dr. Glentzer gave an update on the corporation construction projects. Dan Able will start construction on the building next week and should be completed by the end of November. Mr. Rooks and Mr. Clark will install all the electric. There will be a Capital Projects Committee meeting after the November regular board meeting.
5 OLD BUSINESS There was no old business. PUBLIC COMMENTS There were no public comments ADDITIONAL ITEMS Dr. Glentzer stated we received a last minute medical leave request from Michael McCarty. Mr. McCarty is requesting to extend his medical leave from November 1, 2014 to December 1, Mrs. Hamm moved and Mrs. Taulman seconded a motion to approve Mr. McCarty s medical leave request as presented to the board. There was no further discussion. Motion passed 3 yes, 0 no. BOARD INPUT Mrs. Taulman congratulated the students of the month; so many times students are not recognized for what they do, and the students of the month program encourages them to do better. Mrs. Taulman is glad we are installing a secured front entrance at East Side Elementary. Mrs. Hamm thanked the principals for all of their hard work and thanked them for the building reports. Mr. Lollar thanked the principals for all of their hard work. Mr. Lollar stated the walk-a-thon at East Side has really taken off. Mr. Lollar reminded the Board of their next regular Board Meeting on November 17, ADJOURNMENT Mrs. Taulman made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:20 p.m. Mrs. Hamm seconded. Motion passed 3 yes, 0 no.
