2 SUMMER SCHOOL GENERAL INFORMATION Dates: June 12th - July 7th, 2017 (No school July 3 and 4 th ) Location: 106 W. Church St., Orfordville WI Telephone: Schedule: Enrichment Schedule Jumpstart Schedule Session I 8:00-8:50 Session I 8:00-9:45 Session II 8:55-9:45 Free-Breakfast 9:45-10:15 Free-Breakfast 9:45-10:15 Session II 10:15-12:00 Session III 10:15-11:05 Session IV 11:10-12:00 Participation: Registration: The summer school program is open to any child who is entering kindergarten through seventh grade and resides within the boundaries of the Parkview School District. *Students referred for the remedial Jumpstart Classes must register in the academic area in which they were referred in order to attend summer school. (This may result in some students not being able to take enrichment courses) *Any student who resides outside the district and desires to participate should contact Mrs. Stelter at Registration can be done by mail this year, return to your child s school, or dropped off in person at Parkview Elementary office with Ms. Stacy Neal. Classes will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Material Fee: There may be a $7.50 fee assessed for enrichment classes to cover the cost of materials. Please pay special attention to the Summer School Handbook and the enrichment class you are registering for to see if a material fee is assessed. (ENRICHMENT CLASS FEES MUST BE PAID and accompany the registration form OR THE STUDENT WILL BE PUT ON STANDBY/WAITING LIST UNTIL FEES ARE PAID.) This means THE STUDENT IS AT RISK OF NOT BEING IN THE ENRICHMENT CLASS should the class fill with paid registrants prior to said student s fees being paid in full.

3 Attendance: Attire: Conduct: Transportation: Students are expected to attend summer school regularly. If a child will be absent from summer school, please notify the office by calling Students may wear casual dress that is neat and clean during summer school. However, students must still dress appropriately for school. Beach attire is not acceptable. Students must wear shoes at all times. Tennis shoes are required if students are enrolled in Let s Play Ball, Soccer, or Baseball Skills. Appropriate conduct is expected of all students. Regular school year rules and consequences are followed during the summer school program. For rural students, we will be operating two skeleton bus routes from specific pick-up and drop-off sites and run the routes in reverse order for drop off. (Buses do not run between classes.) 4 SUMMER SCHOOL COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Remedial Course Offerings (Teacher recommendations are given first consideration for enrollment in remedial classes.) EACH JUMPSTART CLASS IS TWO SESSIONS Kindergarten Readiness During our time together we will continue to work on social skills (getting along with others), fine motor skills (writing, cutting,& drawing), letter names, letter sounds, & numbers (1-??), PLUS we will be incorporating cooking, basic computer keyboarding skills (important for 5K testing in the fall), art, singing, dancing, story time, snack time, outside play, and FUN activities each day. Come and join us for 4 weeks of summer school fun!! Jump Start to First Grade Language Arts and Math These two courses will give students a jump-start to first grade by reviewing skills that have not been completely mastered in kindergarten. These skills will be reinforced through a variety of hands-on materials and Jump Start to Second Grade Language Arts and Math These two courses will give students a jump-start to second grade by reviewing skills that have not been completely mastered in kindergarten and first grade. These skills will be reinforced through a variety of hands-on materials and Jump Start to Third Grade Language Arts and Math These two courses will give students a jump-start to third grade by reviewing skills that have not been completely mastered in first grade and second grade. These skills will be reinforced through a variety of hands-on materials and Jump Start to Fourth Grade Language Arts and Math These two courses will give students a jump-start to fourth grade by reviewing skills that have not been completely mastered in second and third grade. These skills will be reinforced through a variety of hands-on materials and Jump Start to Fifth Grade Language Arts and Math These two courses will give students a jump-start to fifth grade by reviewing skills that have not been completely mastered in third and fourth grade. These skills will be reinforced through a variety of hands-on materials and Jump Start to Sixth Grade Language Arts and Math These two courses will give students a jump-start to sixth grade by reviewing skills that have not been completely mastered in fourth and fifth grade. These skills will be reinforced through a variety of hands-on materials and Jump Start to Seventh Grade Language Arts and Math These two courses will give students a jump-start to seventh grade by reviewing skills that have not been completely mastered in sixth grade. 5 Enrichment Course Offerings Band Lessons (Students entering grades 6-7) All band students enrolled in summer school will have the opportunity for individual lessons 1-2 times per week. There will also be an opportunity at some point to play as a large group. Baseball Skills for Kids (Students entering 1-3) and (Students entering 4-7) Students will learn proper fundamental techniques for Throwing, Hitting, Fielding, Pitching, Catching, and Base running. This class is designed for any level from the T-ball to Little League, both boys and girls. Bring your glove and have fun. Tennis shoes are required for this class. Bead and Weave (Students entering grades 1-3 and 4-7) Students will make simple beaded jewelry. They will learn braiding, finger weaving (or finger crocheting) and will make various items using these techniques. Fee: $7.50 Games, Games, Games! (Students entering grades 1-3 and 4-7) We will play board games and card games; everything from Twister to Dominoes. Every day, you ll learn a new game or play an old favorite. Puzzles, Prizes, Excitement!! Let s Play Ball - for Fun and Fitness (Students entering 1 3 and 4-7) Students will learn what it means to be a team player in a variety of activities including: baseball, basketball, kickball, soccer, and more. Students will also learn the importance of stretching and proper warm-up techniques for these athletic activities. Tennis/Athletic shoes are required for this class. Needle and Thread (Students entering grades 4-7) Learn basic hand sewing techniques! Students will learn several stitches used in the construction and decoration of a variety of projects. Students projects may include pin cushions, pillows, tote bags, simple skirts, pillowcase dresses, small hand pieced quilts, or other small items. Fee $7.50 Reading Restaurant (Students entering grades 1-3 and 4-7) Eat your way around the world! We will be reading and learning about different countries-their language, customs, and best of all their FOOD. Every day you will get to sample food from countries around the world. Fee: $7.50 Road Trip Across America (Students entering grades 1-3 and 4-7) Over the course of this class, an excursion across the United States is in store for you. You will be visiting the different regions of America the Beautiful, to investigate each place. Geography, a bit of history, people, and especially fun customs will be our focus for this class. Come join us on a Road trip Across America!

6 German (Students entering grades 1-3 and 4-7) This summer, travel with me to Germany. Explore the language, culture and country. We will learn some basic words, try some foods, learn about the people, and see what the country looks like- all without a passport! So, get ready to have an adventure and some fun. Zumba Kids (Students entering grades 1-3 and 4-7) Do you like music? Do you feel your toes tapping when a great song plays on the radio? Let go and get ready to move and groove! We will have fun with music from all over the world. Lace up those tennis shoes and bring some water, because it is time to dance and sweat! Soccer (Students entering grades 4-7) Soccer is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. It is a fantastic way for kids to acquire muscle balance, improve cardiovascular health, experience team work and competition while getting the physical exercise they all need on a daily basis. This course will use a variety of games to teach the basic rules and foot skills needed to be competitive. Tennis shoes are required for this class. Basketball (Students entering grades 1-3 and 4-7) Focus will be on the basics of basketball and working on teamwork. Students may come with different levels of playing ability, but all students will have the opportunity to build upon their individual skill base while learning new skills. Technology (Students entering grades 1-3 and 4-7) Do you ever wonder how your favorite video games are made? Every great game begins with CODE. Join us as we explore the world of coding. Learn the foundations of coding while learning coding languages like Scratch, Python, Logo, Swift Playground and other graphics-based coding. Programming robots, computers, and ipads are all part of the fun!
