1 Giddings High School Graduation Program The graduation program for freshmen entering high school beginning in the school year and beyond contains up to four parts: Part 1 The Foundation Program (22 credits) which is the core of the Texas High School Diploma. English (4 credits) Mathematics (3 credits) Science (3 credits) Social Studies (3 credits) Languages Other Than English (2 credits) Physical Education (1 credit) Fine Arts (1 credit) Electives (5 credits) English 1 (STAAR EOC TESTED)* English 2 (STAAR EOC TESTED)* English 3* An advanced English course (listed in the GHS course catalog)* Algebra 1 (STAAR EOC TESTED)* Geometry* An advanced math course (listed in the GHS course catalog)* Biology (STAAR EOC TESTED)* Integrated Physics & Chemistry or an advanced science course An advanced science course (listed in the GHS course catalog)* World History or World Geography* US History (STAAR EOC TESTED)* U.S. Government*(one-half credit)/economics* (one-half credit) 2 credits in the same language or 2 credits from * I, II, III P.E., Athletics, or First semester of Band (must take 2 years) Art, Band, or Theatre Arts Listed in the GHS course catalog *Indicates that the course is also offered as a Pre Advanced Placement, Advanced Placement or Dual Credit course Part 2 Endorsements: Foundation requirements + Endorsements = 26 Credits Five endorsement options that allow student to focus on a related series of courses: Business & Industry Arts & Humanities Public Service STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Multidisciplinary A student entering 9 th grade must indicate an endorsement he or she plans to follow. A student may change or add an endorsement at any time. A student may only graduate without earning an endorsement if, after his or her sophomore year, the student s parent signs a form permitting the student to omit the endorsement requirement. Part 3 Distinguished Level of Achievement - A higher performance category that includes the following: Foundation Program requirements 4 credits in math including Algebra II 4 credits in science At least 1 endorsement A Distinguished Level of Achievement must be earned to be admitted to a Texas public university under the Top 10 percent automatic admission law. Part 4 Performance Acknowledgments that note higher achievement: Dual credit course: completed at least 12 hours of college academic courses with a grade of a 3.0 or higher on a scale of 4.0. PSAT, SAT, or ACT: earning a score on the PSAT/NMSQT that qualifies the student for recognition as a commended scholar or higher, on the SAT earning a combined critical reading and mathematics score of at least 1250, and on the ACT earning a composite score of 28. Earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification or license. Earning a score of 3 or above on a College Board advanced placement examination

7 Multidisciplinary Studies Pathway - A student must complete one of the following: (1) Four advanced courses that prepare a student to enter the workforce successfully or to enter postsecondary education without remediation from within one or more endorsement areas. The courses do not have to be in a coherent sequence. (2) Four credits in each of the four foundation subject areas to include English IV and chemistry and/or physics. (3) Four credits in AP, or dual credit selected from English, mathematics, science, social studies, or economics. The above endorsement will be taken in a cohesive sequence with the course required
