44 a-g Subject Requirements Applicants must complete a specific set of 15 college preparatory courses to be eligible for admission to the California State University and the University of California. 11 of the 15 UC required college preparatory ( a-g courses) completed by the end of 11 th grade. Each course needs to be completed with a grade of C or better. THE a-g SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS a. Social Science Two Years One year of world history, cultures and historical geography and one year of U.S. history, or one-half year of U.S. history and one-half year of American government or civics. b. English Four Years College preparatory English that integrates reading of classic and modern literature, frequent and regular writing, and practice listening and speaking.. c. Mathematics Three Years (Four Years Recommended) Algebra 1 (Integrated Math 1), Geometry (Integrated Math 2), Algebra II, and Advanced math. Courses taken in 7 th and 8 th grades may be considered. d. Laboratory Science Two Years Laboratory science providing fundamental knowledge in at least two of the three disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. e. Language Other Than English Two Years in the same language - College prep language courses taken in 7 th and 8 th grade may be included. f. Visual and Performing Arts One Year Dance, music, theater or the visual arts.. g. College-Preparatory Electives One Year Any additional courses (not previously listed) included in the UC a g list. 48 Honors and AP Courses Honors courses are rigorous high school courses designed to prepare students for the pace and complexity of college level courses (AP) AP (Advanced Placement) courses are RIGOROUS, fasterpaced college courses that prepare students for an AP exam AP Tests in May (must pay for in advance) Scores of 3, 4, 5 may waive college level courses Successful students may have at least a 3.5 GPA Mandatory Summer Assignments Attend the AP meeting/honors meeting late-may/early- June. Check school website, curriculum handbook or contact AP instructor.

English English 9 English 9 Honors*** Mandatory Summer Reading for Honors English 9: Meetings and/or prepared handouts that outline summer reading assignments are made available in the spring preceding the class, are available during summer through our front office, and are posted online by the last day of school before summer at No written homework is required over the summer, but students should take notes and be prepared for an exam covering the reading the first week of school.
