The Administration realizes that this is an important time for families of graduating seniors and wishes to keep parents informed to avoid any conflict between the responsibilities of the seniors and the plans of the parents. A WORD OF CAUTION: Each year the local news invariably contains a story of a prom tragedy, usually related to excessive drinking, drug abuse, reckless driving or violent behavior. Students have lost scholarships, graduation privileges or their lives in one thoughtless moment. Please enjoy this time but do so in a sober, sensible way. 2 RESPONSIBILITY FOR SCHOOL PROPERTY All outstanding senior obligations must be taken care of prior to May 21, This includes money from fund raisers, athletic equipment and book fines. No one with an outstanding obligation will be allowed to participate in commencement exercises and their diploma will be held. YEARBOOK The 2018 Yearbook will make your memories come alive! If you have not yet purchased one, do so TODAY. Purchase price is $95. You can also pay by check: make check for $95 out to PVHS-YB and place in a sealed envelope in Yearbook Mailbox or hand to Mrs. Hall in room 203A. Feel free to contact Mrs. Hall, Yearbook Advisor with questions at halld@pvhs.k12.nj.us. There is no deadline for Yearbook sales; books will be sold until pre-ordered number of books run out. There are a limited number left, so order NOW! PROM The senior prom will be on Friday, June 8 th at the Legacy Castle in Pompton Lakes. Prom hours are from 6:00 to 11:00. Purchases can be made up until May 10 th. The attached Drug and Alcohol contract must be handed in before tickets are purchased. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased in the Senior Cafeteria from May 7-May 10 immediately after school. Please make checks payable to PV Class of PARTICIPATION IN THE GRADUATION CEREMONY Seniors are required to fill out and return the enclosed graduation agreement to the Student Activities Office prior to graduation rehearsal. No senior will be permitted to participate in the ceremony unless this agreement is turned in. REHEARSAL SCHEDULE - PLEASE BE PROMPT ATTENDANCE AT REHEARSAL IS MANDATORY Tuesday, June 19 12:35 pm 3:00 pm Seniors are to report to the auditorium immediately after school Wednesday, June 20 Thursday, June 21 12:35 pm 3:00 pm Seniors will report to their designated area immediately after school 12:35 pm 3:00 pm Seniors will report to their designated area immediately after school TRANSPORTATION ON REHEARSAL DAYS During rehearsals for commencement transportation will be available at the regular time each morning. Bus transportation will not be available after rehearsals and seniors must provide for their own transportation. Please carpool if possible. NOTE: ANY SENIOR, WHO MISSES REHEARSALS OR IS UNCOOPERATIVE DURING REHEARSALS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GRADUATION CEREMONY OR OPERATION GRADUATION. STUDENTS ON SOCIAL PROBATION ARE NOT PERMITTED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY PVHS ACTIVITY INCLUDING GRADUATION.
3 COMMENCEMENT The commencement ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. on Walton Field on Friday, June 22, Seniors must report to the Farrell Gym or Schneider Auditorium by 5:15 p.m. If you are not in your designated areas by 5:15, you will not be permitted to walk in the ceremony. Attendance will be taken. ANY STUDENT WHO IS LATE FOR THE PROCESSION, OR WHO APPEARS TO BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF INTOXICANTS OR OTHER SUBSTANCES WILL BE DISMISSED AND WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMMENCEMENT EXERCISE. DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE REMOVAL FROM THE EXCERCISES. TICKETS Each senior will receive 15 tickets: Commencement tickets will be distributed to seniors on the FIRST day of rehearsal any extra ticket requests will be distributed on the second day of practice 4 WHITE RESERVED ON THE FIELD 8 GREEN NON RESERVED IN BLEACHERS 3 PINK INDOORS IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER ONLY IF THERE IS INCLEMENT WEATHER COMMENCEMENT WILL BE HELD IN THE GRISWOLD GYM AND ONLY THE 3 PINK TICKETS WILL BE HONORED. Pink tickets will NOT be honored for the OUTDOOR ceremony. IMPORTANT: PLEASE BRING PINK INDOOR TICKETS TO COMMENCEMENT. IF A PROBLEM SHOULD ARISE DURING THE CEREMONY AND WE MUST MOVE INDOORS, ONLY INDOOR (PINK) TICKETS WILL BE ACCEPTED. EXTRA TICKETS There are a limited number of extra outdoor tickets available. If you have a request for extra tickets, please address a note to Mr. Benvenuti or Mrs. Pellegrini and deliver it to the Student Activities Office by Monday, June 12. You can also Amy Pellegrini at pellegrinia@pvhs.k12.nj.us or fax your request at GREEN Tickets will require a written letter from a parent. (Extra pink (indoor) or White Field tickets will NOT be given out). Extra tickets will be distributed during the SECOND DAY of commencement rehearsal. You will NOT get confirmation of your request unless the request cannot be granted. A reasonable amount of extra tickets will be provided. SOUVENIRS The class of 2019 will have a booth set up for outside service only to purchase flowers, stuffed animals and balloons for your graduate. DRESS AT COMMENCEMENT Girls should wear a white dress or a skirt and top under the gown. Light colored shoes (white, nude, beige) should be worn, sandals are acceptable, but no sneakers, shower or flip-flops. Boys should wear a shirt and necktie with dress pants under the gown. Suit jackets are not to be worn under the gown. (No sneakers, shower or beach sandals). STUDENTS FAILING TO DRESS APPROPRIATELY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO MARCH IN THE PROCESSION.
4 CAPS AND GOWNS Caps and gowns will be distributed after school, outside the Gris Gym. They do not need to be returned. They are a keepsake for the students. DO NOT TOSS your cap after the ceremony; it can be dangerous. Please consider the safety of everyone. DO NOT ALTER THE CAP IN ANY WAY. Take the gown out of the bag and hang up immediately and please make sure the gown is pressed. Only Honor Societies and Scholar of Distinction medals will be permitted to wear with the cap and gown. Cap and Gown pick up dates Last names beginning with: A-H Monday, June 11 I-R Tuesday, June 12 S-Z Wednesday, June 13 If you are not able to pick up on your designated day, you may pick up the following day. The students on early or work release, pick up times are 7:15-8:04 the day after their pick up date. NO GOWNS WILL BE GIVEN OUT DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. The last day for gown pick up will be on Friday, June 15. VIDEOTAPING/PHOTOGRAPHY The 2018 commencement ceremony will be shown on PVTV at a time to be announced. A professional photographer will be in attendance to take pictures of each graduate as they receive their diploma. Please complete the grey card from GradImages and bring to the Student Activities Office. When the picture is available online they will notify you and you will be able to view the picture and if you would like to purchase the picture, you may do so through their online site. There is no obligation to buy. OPERATION GRADUATION The Operation Graduation celebration is directed by a committee of parents and is NOT sponsored by Passaic Valley High School. 5 GRADUATION AGREEMENT 2018 To preserve the honor, dignity and pride at Passaic Valley s commencement, each senior and his or her parents are asked to seriously consider the following two options, and to sign where appropriate. STUDENT S NAME (PLEASE PRINT) 1. I DO choose to participate in my class s graduation ceremony. I agree to attend all rehearsals on time. I agree to abide by all school rules and regulations as outlined in the Commencement Bulletin. I am aware that if I fail to abide by these conditions my participation in graduation and/or my diploma is in jeopardy. Senior s Signature 2. I DO NOT choose to participate in my class s graduation ceremony and therefore will not attend practices or graduation itself. I will pick up my diploma the day after graduation. Senior s Signature I APPROVE OF AND AGREE WITH THE ABOVE. Parent s Signature Return to the Student Activities office by May 29

Examples of exceptional accomplishments are: Any Honor Society s, Boys/Girls State Delegate, Honor Scholarships, All County Athlete Awards, All League Athletic Awards, Local Scholarships, Music Awards, Drama Awards, Art Awards, College Scholarships, National Merit Awards, Any recognition you have received. This information will be included in program. Complete this sheet and return to the Student Activities Office by May 21, If this information is not received by the above date, it will not be included in the program. **All Scholarships given at the Awards Ceremony on June 6 th will be added EXCEPTIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS (attach a sheet of paper if more room is needed):
