1 MONTEREY TRAIL HIGH SCHOOL B U I L D I N G A F U T U R E, F I N D I N G A W A Y.. Volume XIV Issue 1 August 2017 Principa l s Messa ge Erik Swanson, Principal Mustang Families, Welcome back to the School Year! We are excited for our students to return to campus. We have been working hard all summer preparing for another successful year. We have so many great things planned for our entire community! As we head into this year we will continue to emphasize our Core Values. We want all Mustangs to be Confident, to have Integrity, to always show Respect and to value and contribute to our Community. These core values are our guiding principles each day we come to work. Whether a student, a staff member, a parent or community member, we should always strive to embody these values on The Trail and beyond. At our core, we take our responsibility of preparing ALL students for college and career very seriously. We dedicate an incredible amount of resources in making sure each student has all they need to be successful when they graduate and become a proud Mustang alumni! What this means for our school is that each year we get better at what we do and develop new programs to meet the needs of our students. One new addition to our program this year is that all Mustangs will receive a Student Planner the first week of school. Each planner is designed to support our students in setting goals and staying organized. Because we encourage our students to stay fully engaged while in the classroom and out of it, it is important for them to have a tool that assists them with time management. We also know time management as well as short and long term planning are skills that will support our students in college and in life. Another new addition to the daily lives of our Mustangs will be our Digital Media Program. What that means for our school and community is live news every day. With live news we will have the means to better communicate with our students our Core Values, our events, and all of the reasons we are proud to be Mustangs. We are also expanding our lunch offerings this year. We know it is incredibly important for every student to eat lunch each day. We are hopeful by increasing our food choices at lunch and increasing the points of sale where our students can purchase their lunch, more students will be able to enjoy a healthy meal. These are just some of the new and exciting ways the Trail is improving to serve our students and there will be many more. 2 MONTEREY TRAIL HIGH SCHOOL Principal s Letter, Continued Last and certainly not least, it is with great pleasure we let our community know that we have hired some excellent new members to our team, including our first Mustang alumni into the teaching ranks. Both Mariah Houston and Daria Beard have continued to bleed Green and Gold through college and their credential programs and will be teaching in our fantastic English department next year. Both had amazing experiences while they were students here on The Trail and are excited to be back in their new capacity as teachers. When a school is able to hire its former students to be teachers, you know you are doing something right! Here is to another fantastic year.
