4 GETTING STARTED 1. Establish a solid academic base 2. Make sure you are in the most competitive training/playing environment 3. Contact schools/coaches schedule & highlight video 4. Visit colleges - Attend games 5. Talk to current college players during visit(s) 6. Prepare soccer and academic resume 7. Attend ID camps & Summer Camps 8. Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center 9. Take SAT/ACT

12 NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER The Eligibility Center certifies two components of the college recruitment process: 1) Academic Eligibility 2) Amateurism Status **Speak with your HS Guidance Counselor**

13 TO BECOME ELIGIBLE ü Complete the necessary 16 Core Courses: * 4 years - English * 3 years - Mathematics * 2 years - Natural or Physical Science * 2 years - Social Science (History, Geography) * 1 year - Additional English, Math, or Science * 4 years - Additional academic courses (Foreign Language, Philosophy, Religion) ü 10 Core Courses Locked following JR Year ü 7 of the 10 must be a combination of English, math, natural or physical science ü Graduate from High School ü Test Score from SAT/ACT ü Register with NCAA Eligibility Center ü Complete Amateurism Certification

15 ACADEMIC TIMELINE FRESHMAN YEAR: Establish a strong academic base Read the Guide for the College-Bound Student- Athlete Unofficial Visits JUNIOR YEAR: Get HS Transcript Evaluated Take the SAT/ACT Send HS Transcript to Eligibility Center Unofficial Visits SOPHOMORE YEAR: Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center Meet with HS Guidance Counselor Attend College Open Days Prepare a List of Schools Unofficial Visits SENIOR YEAR: Send HS Transcript & Test Scores to Eligibility Center for Official Visits. Fulfill amateurism certification HS Counselor sends official FINAL transcript to Eligibility Center Official Visits (5 allowed)

20 RECRUITING HINTS Start the process early - visit campuses & attend ID clinics Be honest with coaches and yourself: v Know various levels by watching college teams play. Stay on schedule with paperwork (transcripts, test scores) Return all calls, texts and s promptly as a courtesy Be assertive v Ask thoughtful questions & think about what you want from your college experience YOU are going to college not your parents! Parents be realistic about your daughter s potential Register for the NCAA Eligibility Center Do not rely on Guidance Counselors or Club Coaches alone, YOU must be active in YOUR recruiting process Ask Questions of coaches & current student-athletes
