1 AVID Brain Bowl CSI Jrs. Kinnick Clubs and Activities Club Description Time/Location Advancement Via Individual Determination is an inschool academic support program for grades 4 12 that prepares students for college eligibility and success for all students, but it targets those in the academic middle with GPA s within the range of AVID is implemented school-wide, district-wide and DoDEA-wide. AVID students are students in the academic middle, capable of completing a college preparatory path with support. These students often are not realizing their full potential academically. In the identification process a number of criteria are considered, including: State Test Scores, Grades, Citizenship, Attendance, Desire and Determination, First in Family to Attend College, Historically Underrepresented in 4-year Colleges, Economically Disadvantaged or other Special Circumstances. Brain Bowl is a club where students come together and get involved in answering a variety of questions from all content areas. We compete against Kanto Plain schools once a year in October and, after that, we have competitions against local sailors from different local commands. CSI Jr. is a student-led learning community that supports the school improvement process. Students work with administration, teachers, and other students to advance education and improve the learning experience through involvement, awareness, and experience. class, parent nights each semester, Site Team Meetings Monthly, Certification (CSS) yearly, Recruitment and student selection bi-yearly Chess Club Play chess and Shoji (Japanese chess) Community Service Club Nile C. Kinnick High School Community Service Club The Community Service Club gives students the opportunity to do service (volunteer) activities. All activities are organized by students with the help of the club sponsor. The club s purpose is to engage students in a meaningful way, through service activities, to enhance our school and community. Leadership development is a benefit for many students who take on more responsibilities with the Club. The Community Service Club offers many Ro(tournament Year-long in April or meetings 2 times per month and monthly service projects. Information Center

Culinary Club Drama Earth Club Echoes Newspaper/Journalism Club Kinnick Glee Club JSHS/Science Fair The Culinary Arts Club gives students currently enrolled in Culinary Arts the opportunity to work the required 200 hours per year for the ProStart Scholarship. Students create, plan and market for fund raising events. The proceeds go to class projects and the Awards Dinner at the end of the year. The Drama Club is a group of students who are interested in the performing arts both on stage and back stage. We put on one or two productions each year. We welcome any student who is interested, regardless of experience level. Please Facebook friend "KHS Drama Lewis" for more information. This is an Environmental/Community Service Club that meets throughout the whole school year. We do various outdoor activities including a beach clean-up, outrigger canoe, as well as a few hikes during the year. We are also in charge of recycling in our school and try to promote being green. We are currently planning a school garden for the spring too. We also invite off base foster kids to our school for Halloween pumpkin carving and we have a breakfast with Santa in December. Producing and publishing Echoes, the school newspaper Glee provides talented Kinnick singers the opportunity to meet together and sing current Hit songs, perfect their skills and perform to amazed audiences. Auditions for Far East Drama are during the third week of the school year. The Far East Team will practice between 3 and 4 times a week between mid-september and mid- February. Then from mid- February to mid-june there will be Drama Club activities every other week on Thursday after school in the Little Theater to play Drama games and work on acting and teching skills. 3 KTV/Video club Model United Nations National Honor Society NJROTC Marksmanship NJROTC Color Guard NJROTC Unarmed Drill Team NJROTC Armed Drill Team Photography Club Robotics Club This Club provides additional time for students in KTV, in Video Communication and students who are interested in needing extra time and help working with Movie Making and Video Production. Any student can join and share their videos that they have produced and the opportunity to show their work on KTV to the student body. Any National Honor Society chapter is guided by four main principles: To create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. The Kinnick High School organization is no different. Membership in the Kinnick High School Chapter of the National Honor Society has been earned by the effective demonstration of the four qualities held in high esteem by the Society: character, leadership, scholarship, and service. Applications are accepted from Sophomores and Juniors with at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Meets (all year beginning in Sep) about once per week. Regional Comp in Dec. Far East competitions in Feb. Meets (all year beginning in Sep) about twice per week. Regional competition in Jan, Far East competition in March. Color Guard presents colors at community events about times in a school year. Regional competition in Jan, Far East comp in March. This club meets twice per quarter to plan photography study trips. The Nile C. Kinnick robotics team features a small, yet enthusiastic and devoted group of teens aspiring to create a robot that originated from their own imagination and inspiration. The team is reaching its 3 rd year of competition and its 4 th year of establishment. Our members come from all different kinds of backgrounds and experience and provide an expanded use of hands- Video Studio Every other Thursday during lunch / Room 310
4 Spanish Honor Society Student Council Student 2 Student Yearbook on drive and initiative to create with innovative approaches to original problems. We face problems head on and come up with pragmatic solutions by collaborating and communicating. Open to anyone grades 9-12 who have an interest to be part of this team. For Spanish 3 or higher level students in good academic standing. Students participate in community service projects and promote the Spanish language and culture throughout the community. Student Council is the premier student government activity at Kinnick High School. We run all of the events one would find in a student council at any high school (Homecoming, pep-rallies, etc.); in addition, we sell spirit wear through our ever-expanding student store. Leaders are chosen by vote at the end of a school year (for the next school year). S2S is a program designed to help change a transitioning student s focal point from what the student has lost to what the student will gain through the relocation. S2S helps guide new students through their new surroundings, offering valued information, friendship and assistance from a peer viewpoint. Every other Tuesday in Room 308. The executive board meets every Monday from in Room 315, and the executive board meets with the representatives from each class every Wednesday from in the conference room. Thursdays at lunch at the Teen Center

Lots of great community support and try-outs are open to all ladies (normally early November of the school year). Practice through the season is 3:00-5:00 PM. Cheerleading (Fall and Winter) Contact Cross Country (Fall) We are a championship team but open to runners of all abilities. Football (Fall) Soccer (Boys) (Spring) We practice from 3-5, Monday- Saturday, during the season. Tryouts are held the first week of the season, but we always welcome incoming students and offer them a chance to tryout. Please don't wait until the first day of tryouts to start getting in shape - start now! If you are a soccer player and you are planning on coming to Yokosuka or are new to Yokosuka, please contact coach. Softball (Spring) Tennis (Fall Co-ed) Held in the fall season. Practice is daily M-F with internal tournaments on Saturday mornings. Track & Field (Spring) March 3-May 21 Practice daily Monday-Friday 3-5 with track meets on Saturdays. At this time
