1 May 18, 2018 Dear Cougar Parents/Guardians, As you and your child approach the end of this senior year and look forward to graduation, the staff and administration of Colts Neck High School extend our very best wishes and appreciation for all of the assistance and support you have provided over the years. Graduation Day is one of the most important events in your child s life and a milestone for your entire family to celebrate and cherish. Accordingly, our commencement program is designed to reflect the significance, dignity, and beauty of this occasion. In an effort to reduce the length of the graduation ceremony, local scholarships and other honors will be presented during the Senior Awards Night to be held on June 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. While this program is open to all graduates, award recipients will receive invitations for their family. We are looking forward to a wonderful evening honoring the many achievements of this year s graduating class and your presence will help make this a very special night for everyone. The graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 21st at 6:00 p.m. on the football field and should last approximately one hour. In order to ensure that the ceremony proceeds smoothly, rehearsal is scheduled for Thursday, June 21 st at 9:00 a.m. Students should report on the morning of the 21st directly to the gymnasium. Attendance at rehearsal is mandatory for participation in the ceremony. I am sure many of you have questions regarding the impact of inclement weather on the graduation ceremony. Weather permitting; the ceremony will take place on our football field on the 21 st at 6:00 p.m. If necessary, due to inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved into the gymnasium and begin at the same time, 6:00 p.m. Because of the limited space in the gymnasium, each graduate will receive two (2) tickets to the indoor ceremony. These tickets will only be necessary for admittance into the indoor ceremony. NO TICKETS ARE NECESSARY FOR THE OUTSIDE CEREMONY. A decision to move the ceremony indoors is only made when absolutely necessary. Every effort will be made to conduct the commencement in the stadium. If the decision told hold graduation indoors is made, information will be posted on the FRHSD Facebook page as well as the web site, and via our automated phone calling system. BECAUSE OF FIRE AND SAFETY REGULATIONS, NO EXCEPTIONS CAN BE MADE TO ALLOW ADDITIONAL PEOPLE INTO THE GYMNASIUM. Please note, if you or a family member requires handicapped seating, please submit a written request to Karen Dawson, Principal s Secretary, no later than Tuesday, June 5th and we will be

2 happy to make the appropriate arrangements. Parking will be permitted in designated areas only; there is no parking along the curb or in fire lanes. Due to the high volume of traffic, we encourage families to car pool. Please check with your son or daughter to be sure all obligations concerning grades, make-up work, fines for books or equipment, detentions, etc. are resolved prior to Tuesday, June 5th. Please contact your son or daughter s guidance counselor if you have any questions. Please read over and discuss the enclosed graduation agreement with your senior. This signed agreement must be returned to the office no later than Tuesday, June 5th in order for your son or daughter to be included in our graduation ceremony. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the attached information, please contact us immediately. A photographer will be taking a picture of each graduate as he or she receives the diploma. Diploma cases will be handed to each graduate during the ceremony, while the diploma itself may be picked up after the ceremony inside the school or the next day. Anyone whose behavior is disruptive during the ceremony will not be issued a diploma until a hearing is held with the school administration at a later date. Please read over all the additional documents included in this mailing. There is a great deal of information to share, all of which is relevant to the final month of the school year. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support of our efforts to provide our graduates, their families, and our community with a memorable and dignified commencement. 3 INFORMATION FOR COLTS NECK HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION 2018 We are working towards making your graduation ceremony on the evening of June 21 st, 2018 as joyful and memorable for you, your families and friends as possible. The ceremony begins promptly at 6:00 p.m. In order to help us achieve this goal, please pay close attention to the reminders for our 2018 graduates listed below: 1. In order to walk in graduation, students are required to attend practice the morning of graduation. They are to report to the auditorium at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 21 st. Rehearsal lasts until approximately 12:00 p.m.. All tickets for an indoor graduation will be distributed at that time. Room assignments and seating information will be available outside the cafeteria. Please check your assignment prior to entering the auditorium. 2. On the evening of June 21 st, students report directly to their assigned classroom no later than 5:00 pm (refer to the lists posted on the cafeteria window). Students are to bring their cap and gown with them; do not wear them to school. Please make sure to bring the tassel for the graduation cap and hairpins to secure the cap. No writing or decorating will be permitted on the graduation cap. If a student arrives after 5:10 pm he/she is to report to Mr. Currie or Mrs. Kozar in the gym to be checked in. Students are to leave all valuables at home. There is no secure place to leave them. Proper attire is to be worn to the ceremony. For boys, this includes slacks (no jeans), a collared shirt, socks and shoes. For girls, this includes a dress or a skirt (or dress slacks) with a blouse and appropriate shoes. Sneakers and flip-flops are not allowed. 3. Students will not receive their diploma on the field. After the ceremony is over, families will have until 8:00 pm to pick up the diploma in the cafeteria. If you do not pick up your diploma at that time, you can pick it up in the main office, starting June 25 th, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. No diploma will be released to any student who has an open school fine. All monies/books owed to the school must be paid no later than 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 th, 2018 to have your diploma available the day of graduation. 4. Any student disrupting the graduation ceremony will not receive their diploma that evening. The student will be required to arrange with the Principal of Colts Neck High School to pick up their diploma.

4 Code of Dress and Behavior Boys Dress slacks (no jeans or shorts) Collared shirt Tie recommended, not required Shoes (no sneakers, sandals, or flip flops) Girls Dress, skirt, or dress pants (no jeans or shorts) Shoes or dress sandals (no sneakers, no flip flops) Our school community views the commencement exercise as the most important ceremony in the academic lives of our students. Students, parents, faculty, and administration have worked to develop a graduation program which is both dignified and memorable. Accordingly, those wishing to participate must agree to the standards of dress established for this occasion. All graduates will wear caps and gowns. No painting or decorations of any kind may be applied to any part of the cap or gown or the person of any individual student. During the ceremony, students are expected to act with proper decorum. Bubbles, beach balls, noisemakers etc. may not be brought to the ceremony. Failure to comply with the directions of the faculty/chaperones may result in removal from the remaining portion of the program. Any student who violates any of the above-mentioned rules will not be issued his/her diploma until completion of disciplinary consequences. *STUDENTS MUST ATTEND GRADUATION PRACTICE IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CEREMOMY. To participate each senior must raise a $10 donation. 1-3PM-Aux gym Wed. 6/6-Senior BBQ in courtyard w/rita's and Surf Taco-During lunches Thurs. 6/7-Senior Gameshow Periods 3-9 in Auditorium. All Seniors will eat Period 9, and Pizza and Ice Cream is being sponsored by PTSO Fri. 6/8- Senior Switch Day. Up to 3 students per faculty member.
