4 Tardy bell rings at 8:30, dismissal at 3:30 4/4 Block Scheduling 4 classes each semester Classes are 90 minutes each Each class is worth one credit for a total of 8 potential credits for the year. 4 classes from August through December 4 classes from January through May Attendance is very important missing one day is really the equivalent of missing two class periods worth of material.

5 In order to earn the credit for the class, students must earn at least a 70 in the class. In the 9 th grade, Biology, Coordinate Algebra, and 9 th Literature have an End Of Course Test that counts as 20% of the final grade In order to be promoted to the 10 th grade, students must earn six credits, including Coordinate Algebra and 9 th Literature. Advanced and Gifted classes add five points to the student s weighted grade point average. AP classes add ten points.

7 Coordinate Algebra Accelerated Coordinate Algebra/Analytic Geometry A (all of Coordinate Algebra and the first half of Analytic Geometry are taught) Students can move from the regular math track to the accelerated track, but it involves taking an extra math course in 10 th or 11 th grade. Coordinate Algebra Support is an elective class for students who need additional support in math (this class is taken in addition to Coordinate Algebra). This class gives the student math all year long instead of just one term. Students earn an elective math credit for first semester, and the Coordinate Algebra credit second semester.

Intro to Business and Technology essentials of Microsoft Office (WORD, Excel, Power Point, Access) as well as the basics of business management. This is a prerequisite for all other business classes. JROTC (Marine Corps at ECHS) develop leadership skills, physical training one day per week, wear uniform one day per week Drama fundamentals of acting, perform monologues and scenes in front of your peers Modern Language (Spanish, German, French)

13 Although students are NOT required to take a modern language to graduate from high school, universities in GA (as well as many across the country) do require at least TWO credits of the same modern language as part of their admissions requirements. Check with the college s admissions page to verify admissions requirements. We encourage students to take levels one and two in the same school year. Students with less than an 80 in Language Arts should wait until 10 th grade to take a modern language class.

CEC is an opportunity to explore areas of career interest while remaining part of your high school. You don't have to choose one or the other...both CEC and your high school are available to serve you.

They are experts in areas that they teach. 9th graders can attend CEC morning or afternoon...whichever best meets their needs. This CEC website link provides a list of high school courses at CEC. For example, the link to provides a description of high school Healthcare courses and a short video to better introduce the Healthcare program to parents and students.

16 If a student has CEC first block, he must either get to East Coweta by 7:40 to catch the bus to CEC or get a ride to CEC by 8:15. If you are registering for CEC classes and will not be able to get a ride in the morning, please write at the top of your registration form CEC in afternoon. We will do our best to accommodate this request, but it is not a guarantee. Students who have CEC classes in the afternoon will ride the bus from East Coweta to CEC after second block, and then return by bus to East Coweta before dismissal to catch your bus home.

19 Students must maintain a B average in academic classes (some electives are academic electives and count towards the HOPE GPA) This is done on the 4.0 scale. Assign A s four points, B s three points, C s two points, and D s one point. Failing grades do not receive points, but still average into the GPA. Currently students must have a 3.0 by the end of senior year to qualify for HOPE. It gets more and more difficult to raise the GPA as students progress through high school, so grades during 9 th grade are very important. Students entering 9 th grade in 2013 must complete four credits of classes identified under the rigor requirements to qualify for HOPE. More information can be found at gacollege411.org. 20 Help is available ask for it and use it! Don t fall behind with missing assignments and make up work immediately if you are absent. Stay organized and use an agenda or calendar to keep track of assignments and important due dates. Keep a positive attitude. Stay out of trouble. Students cannot afford to miss class due to disciplinary reasons. Get involved. ECHS offers many clubs and sports for students.
