7 Graduation Requirements: Graduation Program All 9 th graders in Spring ISD will enroll into the Foundation High School Program Endorsements + Distinguished Level of Achievement This graduation program requires 26 credits.
8 Foundation High School Program Endorsement + Distinguished Level of Achievement (Students who entered 9 th grade and beyond) 26 Credits English 4 credits Math 4 credits (Algebra 2 required) Science 4 credits Social Studies 3 credits Languages Other Than English (LOTE) 2 credits same language Fine Arts 1 credit Physical Education 1 credit Health.5 credits - (Spring ISD requirement) Endorsement Electives 6.5 credits
9 What are ENDORSEMENTS? All 9 th grade students must have an Endorsement. An Endorsement is a sequence of courses related to your interests. It is like selecting a major in college. In Spring ISD, 8 th graders should identify their Career Pathway through the Exploring Careers course. Once you identify your Career Pathway, it is easy to determine your Endorsement.

11 Graduation Requirements: State Assessments The following 5 end-of-course (EOC) assessments are required: 9 th Grade English I Algebra I Biology 10 th Grade English II 11 th Grade US History You must pass each of the five EOC assessments to meet state graduation requirements.

13 Pre-AP PLACEMENT GUIDELINES If currently in Pre-AP: >90 average in 7 th grade Pre-AP; Advanced STAAR (or other state assessment) performance; and All-around good student with >85 average in all courses & demonstrate strong work ethic. 8 th Grade Pre-AP courses are a la carte If currently in regular: Parent/Teacher recommendation; PLUS Advanced STAAR (or other state assessment) performance; >90 overall average in specific subject; and All-around good student with >85 average in all courses & demonstrate strong work ethic.

15 COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS/ PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATIONS This course is designed to guide students through the process of investigation & the development of a high school, college, & career achievement plan. Students will explore their interests, abilities, educational & career information to make informed decisions. This information will be used to explore educational requirements for a variety of chosen career paths. *Required Elective.

20 ART MS1/2 Basic/Intermediate These courses extend the learning of basic elements of art and principles of design, art history, and art appreciation. Students design, develop, and create art using a variety of media. Both Art MS1 & Art MS2 are full year courses. Art MS1 is a prerequisite for Art MS2. Both Art MS1 & Art MS2 + Teacher Approval are prerequisites for Art I, the full year high school credit Art course in 8 th grade. Fees may apply for both courses ($10).
21 ART I (HS CREDIT) Beginning Art & Intermediate Art are prerequisites for enrollment; Appreciate, observe, imagine express, respond to, & analyze critical attributes of artwork; 1.0 high school credit; $10.00 fee required for supplies.
22 ATHLETICS (Full Year) Athletics requires Physical, Tryout, Fees, & Coach s Approval. Academic Performance Considered Texas requires middle school students to take 2 years of PE.
23 1 Period 1 st Semester/2 Periods 2 nd Semester First Band, the most advanced band & Second Band (Prerequisite Beg Band) will further develop ear training, individual & ensemble playing skills, tone production, and music reading in a full ensemble setting as well as in small groups. Students attend sectional technique classes, and participate in numerous concerts, contests and community performances. Instrument Purchase/Rental and Extra fees are required for Band enrollment. Final Band placements are determined upon consultation with Band Director. REQUIRES FULL YEAR COMMITMENT
24 BUSINESS INFORMATION MANAGEMENT (BIM) In this course middle school students apply technical skills to: Address business applications of emerging technologies; Create word-processing documents; Develop spreadsheets; Formulate databases; & Create electronic presentations using appropriate software. HS Credit; Fees may apply ($10). MUST TAKE TSDE B4 BIM!
25 REQUIRES FULL YEAR COMMITMENT 1 Period 1 st Semester/2 Periods 2 nd Semester First Girls/Boys Choir, the most advanced girls/boys choir & Second Girls/Boys Choir will further develop ear training, individual and ensemble singing skills, vocal production, and music reading in a full ensemble setting as well as in small groups. Students participate in numerous concerts, contests and community performances & attend before/after school rehearsals. Choir courses are gender-specific.
26 DANCE MS1/2/3 All courses will extend middle school students knowledge of basic elements of dance styles and acquire the wellness information and skills necessary to become healthy adults. Dressing out is required.
27 PRINCIPLES OF HUMAN SERVICES This laboratory course will enable students to investigate careers in the human services career cluster, including counseling and mental health, early childhood development, family and community and personal care services. Each student is expected to complete the knowledge and skills essential for success in high-skill high-wage, or highdemand human services careers. HS Credit; Fees may apply ($10).
28 SPANISH I Demonstrate novice proficiency in all communication skills (listening, speaking, reading & writing); Study cultures of various Spanish speaking countries; At least 85 in 7 th grade English is a prerequisite; At least 75 in 7 th grade Math is a prerequisite; OR Communication skills in the Spanish language HS Credit
29 SPANISH FOR SPANISH SPEAKERS Prerequisite Native or Heritage speaker of Spanish &/or Placement Test &/or teacher recommendation; Engage in instruction designed to improve reading, composition, & grammar skills in Spanish (Spanish I & II HS Credit with successful CBE); Covers 2 levels of Spanish instruction; Instruction frequently conducted in Spanish; Complete coursework for native or heritage speakers of the Spanish language; HS Credit.
30 Speech course blends written, oral, & graphic communication in careerbased, business environment with building confidence in public speaking through a variety of presentations that use communication & theatrical techniques. Full year commitment required. Fees may apply and vary according to tournament entry cost. REQUIRES FULL YEAR COMMITMENT NOT Speech Therapy!
31 FULL YEAR COURSES Theatre MS1 Students will explore elements of drama and conventions of theatre; interpret characters, voice and body expression and the relationship of theatre to history, society, and culture. Theatre MS2 Students learn basic acting skills, pantomime, improvisation, storytelling, character analysis, body expression and the relationship of theatre to history, society, and culture. Theatre MS1 = Prerequisite for Theatre MS2. Both are full year courses. *Full year commitment required. Fees may apply($10).

39 TOUCH SYSTEM DATA ENTRY (TSDE) (Keyboarding) Students apply technical skills to address business applications of emerging technologies. Students enhance reading, writing, computing, communications, and reasoning skills and apply them to the business environment.
