Executive Director, SDHSAA FORMAT: A double-elimination individually bracket tournament will be utilized for the SDHSAA State Tournament, as per Rule 10 of the NFHS Wrestling Rules Book and SDHSAA Wrestling Handbook. Competition through the first three sessions of the tournament will be held on four mats, with place matches on three mats and championship matches on a single mat. ENTIRES & DRAW: All entries will be determined by way of region competition. Seeding will take place following those region events and posted online by no later than 5 PM, Sunday, February 18. 2 15-Minute Intermission Fourth Round Consolation All Eight Mats FOURTH SESSION - 4:00 PM SATURDAY 3rd, 5th & 7th Place Matches Begin Promptly at 4:00 PM **No Faceoffs for Place Matches** Six Mats of Action Championship Matches Faceoffs Will begin approximately 30 Minutes following last Place Matches Wrestling on two mats Match order to be determined by Fan Vote PLACES: Eight places shall be awarded as follows: First Place 16 Team Points Third Place 9 Team Points Fifth Place 5 Team Points Seventh Place 2 Team Points Second Place 12 Team Points Fourth Place 7 Team Points Sixth Place 3 Team Points Eighth Place 1 Team Point PRE-TOURNAMENT WORKOUTS: Schools wishing to workout at the competition site on Thursday may do so as follows: 4-7 PM Central Time Practice will be available on the main PREMIER Center floor Teams arriving for workouts are reminded to use the northeast entrance to the PREMIER Center and park their vehicles according to the attached map. WEIGH-INS: All weigh-ins will begin at 7:00 AM on each day of competition with scales being open at 6:00 AM for unofficial weight checks. Weigh-ins will be considered completed after the final 285-pound competitor has weighed in. A one-pound allowance will be granted for the second day of competition. Scales will be available on Thursday evening and all day on Friday for wrestlers to be able to check weights. TEAM EXPENSES: Expense statements are available at check-in on Thursday evening or Friday morning at the competition site. Each school will pay its own expenses with reimbursement being granted at the end of the school year. Full reimbursement information can be found in the General Sports Information section of the SDHSAA Athletic Handbook. TICKETS: Ticket prices for the State Wrestling Tournament are as follows: Adult, Reserved Seating: $45 All-Tourney, $14 per session Student, General Admission: $25 All-Tourney, $8 per session

3 PASSES & COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS: Each qualified contestant will receive a pass upon arrival at the event site. Additionally, cheerleaders may receive a complimentary pass if attending as a team unit. New in 2017: A maximum of 2 student manager passes may also be provided, as long as they have been listed on the SDHSAA roster form online. Bus drivers will be issued a complimentary pass if requested by the school. Complimentary general admission tickets for coaches and administration entrance to the site will be issued to a qualifying school as follows: Number of Qualifiers Complimentary Seat Tickets 1 Three General Admission Tickets 2 Four General Admission Tickets 3 Five General Admission Tickets 4 or more Six General Admission Tickets Please note: These complimentary passes will ONLY be accepted through the northeast entrance to the PREMIER Center. No Reserved Seat tickets will be made available as complimentary to school administrators or coaches. All reserved seat tickets must be purchased from the PREMIER Center. MAT ACCESS: Due to the limited floor space at the combined event, please note the following: Only those wrestlers, and a maximum of three support personnel (Two coaches and one student manager) will be allowed to enter the competition area once that wrestler s upcoming match has been assigned a mat as displayed by the on-site video board(s). No additional team personnel will be allowed on the floor level for that individuals match. Additionally, following the completion of a contestant s match, coaches, managers and competitors will need to leave the competition floor in a prompt manner. Failure to abide by these guidelines may result in the deduction of a team point. LODGING: Team lodging is the responsibility of the participating school for wrestling events held in Rapid City and Sioux Falls. No region rooms are available for this years event. TEAM ENTRANCE & PARKING: Teams are to ENTER the PREMIER Center main arena from the northeast entry at all times. This includes any member of the team who is attempting to enter via an SDHSAA-provided pass. Team vehicles are to PARK in the Parking Lots as shown on the attached map. Failure to park in the designated lots may result in your vehicle being towed. LOCKERS/SHOWERS: Dressing rooms will be assigned at the host venue, with regions sharing facilities. Towels will not be furnished for showers. Each school is responsible for their own

4 equipment/bags/valuables, and should not leave them in the locker facilities unattended. MAT-SIDE COACHING As a reminder, a maximum of two coaches and one student statistician are allowed within the coaching area inside of the ropes in the corner of the mat. Three chairs will be provided; violations of this rule may result in a team point deduction. COACHES MEETING: A meeting of all wrestling coaches is scheduled for7:30 AM on Saturday, February 25 th in the PREMIER Center at a location to be announced during the tournament. Lance Pierson, Head Coach, Rapid City Central, and Scott Andal, Head Coach, McCook Central/Montrose will lead the meeting and discuss any topics that coaches wish to have discussed by the State Advisory Committee. PROPER UNIFORM & DRESS: Wrestlers are to be in proper uniform from the time they step on the mat through the end-of-match procedure. Coaches should also be in appropriate attire throughout the event. No caps or hats are to be worn by either coaches or players; this dress code is also in effect for team and individual awards. CHEERLEADERS: Due to space limitations with the combined event, cheerleaders will not be allowed mat-side access for cheering except for the Individual Championship Matches on Saturday night. All preliminary-round matches, including 3 rd -5 th -7 th place matches do not provide a safe area for cheering to take place mat-side. VENUE MAP: Please find also attached a venue map that details seating areas, competition maps and other general venue information. Note that a restrictive gate will encircle the area of the eight competition mats and only those coaches and athletes who are set to wrestle will be allowed access to the mat side area.

5 State Tournament Information from SDHSAA Wrestling Handbook A. Format 1. At the State Tournament a Double Elimination format with four mats will be used until the final session. In the final session of the State Tournament three mats will be used to determine third, fifth and seventh places. One mat will be used to determine the champion of each weight class. 2. UPDATED : Beginning with the SDHSAA State Tournament, wrestlers will be seeded for competition by the Wrestling Advisory Committee and their designees. Twelve wrestlers in each weight class will be seeded, and each Region Champion is guaranteed to be given one of the eight seeds, regardless of any other criteria. Wrestlers will be seeded using the criteria as listed in the Region Tournament section of this handbook, with the following exceptions: a. Region Champions are guaranteed a top-eight seed b. Head-to-Head victories in a Region Championship Match shall count as two wins if Head-to-Head comparison is used between those same two wrestlers. c. After Head-to-Head and common opponents are evaluated, place in same region shall be considered prior to other criteria. Additionally, once the twelve seeded wrestlers have been established, a draw will be conducted to place the remaining eight qualifying wrestlers. No two wrestlers from the same region will be allowed to match up with one another during the first round of competition. 3. NEW, 2017: The committee reserves the right to reseed/redraw a bracket if a forfeit occurs within the top eight seeds prior to the start of State Tournament competition. 3. NEW, 2016 The SDHSAA and South Dakota Public Broadcasting will conduct a fan vote via social media to determine the order of the Individual Championship matches. Fans, coaches, athletes and the general public will have the ability to cast their vote for which match will be featured as the final match of the night for each Class A and Class B. For example, if the 145-pound match is selected as the final match of the night, wrestling for that class will begin at 152-pounds. B. Passes and Complimentary Tickets at State Tournament 1. Each contestant will be furnished a pass. 2. Each Varsity Cheerleader in attendance will be furnished a pass. 3. Student manager passes will be provided. 4. Complimentary tickets will be issued to a school as follows: Number of Complimentary Qualifiers(Pass) Tickets or more 6 One pass for a bus driver will be available if requested. The High School Press Pass Request form is located in the School Zone, Fine Arts, Journalism section. **Passes will be issued to the coach at the time of weigh-ins for distribution to his people. C. State Tournament School Lodging Lodging reservations for contestants, coaches, student managers and cheerleaders at the State Wrestling Tournaments will be made by the SDHSAA when the tournaments are held outside of Sioux Falls or Rapid City. When the tournaments are held in Sioux Falls or Rapid City each school will be responsible for their own reservations. The lodging reservation policy will be as follows: 1. Formula for Room Reservations at the State A and B Wrestling Tournaments: a. 1 or 2 qualifiers 5 rooms maximum 3 or 4 qualifiers 6 rooms maximum 5 to 7 qualifiers 7 rooms maximum 8 to 10 qualifiers 8 rooms maximum 11 to 14 qualifiers 9 rooms maximum b. Maximum number of rooms per Region in Class B is 75 rooms. Maximum number of rooms per region in Class A is 55 rooms. c. After all schools have been accommodated and if additional rooms are still available from the region total, said region may assign additional rooms to those schools requesting them. Note: The rooms are to be used by schools for their qualifiers only. No rooms can be reserved for parents, administration, coaches wives, etc.

6 2. The SDHSAA Office Staff are responsible for making reservations at the various motels. 3. Should a school refuse to use the assigned motel, they would not receive any reimbursement for team expenses. 4. Motel assignments will be made by Region. The SDHSAA will hold a random drawing to determine the motel assignments. 5. Each Regional Meet Director will inform the schools in their region as to their motel assignment and to the maximum number of rooms allowed according to the formula. The SDHSAA Office Staff will be responsible to notify in advance the motels as to what member schools are to be contacting them following the Region Tournaments. 6. Each member school qualifying wrestlers to the State Tournaments will have up until 4:00 p.m. on the Monday following the tournaments to notify the motel as to their reservation needs. This would include the number of rooms needed and the nights in which they will be staying. The schools will be billed according to the arrangements made at this time. 7. Each school is responsible for payment of the school s room reservations. D. State Tournament Reserved Seat Ticket Information Combined Tournament, Sioux Falls 1. Member School Pre-Sale Ticket Orders a. Only all-tournament tickets will be sold in advance. b. Tickets for the Combined Tournament will be sold only by the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls. Ticket Order forms will be sent to Member Schools in the first two weeks of January. There is no limit on the number of adult or student all-tournament tickets a school can purchase. c. Each school order must be accompanied by a check or money order made payable to the Denny Sanford Premier Center for the exact amount of the order. d. The deadline for School Orders to be received by the DSPC is February 1. Any orders received after that point will be filled in the order they are received and potentially mixed in with general public sales. e. There are NO REFUNDS on ticket orders 2. General Public Pre-Sale Orders a. The general public is encouraged to make their orders through their local school district to ensure they receive priority seating for the Tournament. b. Members of the general public not ordering tickets through their school may contact the host site directly or purchase tickets online beginning on or around February 1. c. As with the school orders, there are NO REFUNDS on any tickets purchased. 3. Ticket Prices: Any Reserved Seat or Adult Student General Admission Ticket All-Tournament Ticket $45.00 $25.00 Single-Session Ticket $14.00 $ Ticket Specifications: a. All adults will be required to purchase a reserved seat ticket good for seating as assigned to gain entry. b. Students wishing to sit with their school/parent groups must purchase a reserved seat ticket. c. Discounted student tickets will be for seating in specified sections separate from team personnel. d. Student Tickets are good for those in Grades Kindergarten or younger are admitted free, but not necessarily provided a seat in the reserved section without a ticket. College students are considered adults and must purchase an adult ticket to gain entry. e. Tickets may be purchased on the day of the event. Doors will open 90 minutes prior to the first session on Friday and 60 minutes prior to each of the remaining sessions. E. Team Expenses Each school shall pay the entire expenses of its contestants at the State Meet. Schools will receive partial reimbursement by the SDHSAA. Please refer to the General Section of the Athletic Handbook for an explanation of the amount to be reimbursed. F. Coaches Conduct and Dress Coaches are asked to dress appropriately (comfortable, but not sloppy; no hats, t-shirts, denim jeans, or sweat pants). Coaches are in the spotlight, not a fan in the stands. (BOD s action: April, 2008)
