FORECASTING SPRING 2017 JUNIORS CLASS OF 2019
Welcome Mr. Mills You get what you ask for Find balance Be thoughtful Forecasting Process The why: Budget/Staffing Impact/Course Enrollment Impact
Forecasting Important Dates Monday, February 27 th Forecasting Assemblies 4-Year Planner Transcript Colored Forecasting Form Tuesday, March 7 th Monday, March 13 th Counselors will meet with each student individually to help in the forecasting process. These meetings have already been scheduled and will coincide with your English class. Turn in the following during your individual meeting with your Counselor: Colored Forecasting Form Yoga or Nia Form (pick up yoga/nia forms in counseling office) Aide, Pro or Student Assistant Forms (if applicable)
Required Courses for Juniors English 11 American Literature; a comprehensive class with both literature and writing instruction OR AP English Language/Composition American Literature; a comprehensive class with both literature and writing; however, there is a significant focus on writing -- there will be more writing than in either Eng 11 regular or Eng 11 Honors. Students will also read major American works of literature (there has been some misunderstanding about this, and it is important to note that this is still a literature course!). Students will "have" to take the AP Exam and will receive AP Credit. 25 Advanced Placement ( AP ) Advanced Placement courses are college level courses that are graded on a weighted scale (i.e. A = 5.0, B = 4.0, etc. This does not apply to D grades). At the end of each course you will be required to take a national AP exam that determines the number of college credits you will receive for that particular course. It is up to the college whether or not they will accept AP college credit. Leading up to forecasting you will have discussions with your teachers about recommendations for AP level courses. Each course may have specific application requirements and possibly summer work. You will not be allowed to drop an AP course once the class starts.
Advanced College Credit Completing ACC approved courses with an A or B will earn community college credit that can be transferable to many 4 year universities. CCC will notify students taking ACC approved courses for registration. You must pay $10 per credit to receive college credit (i.e. 4 credit course = $40). Students CAN NOT get both ACC and AP credit for one course. Review list of approved ACC courses on our website > Academics > Curriculum > Advanced College Credit See counselor for additional details!!!
Oregon University System D Rule No Oregon public university will accept grades lower than a C- in required academic courses. Student with D s or lower in these courses will be required to make up the credit before applying to an Oregon public university. See your counselor about credit recovery options!!!
