To graduate with less than Core 40, a formal optout process must be completed.

16 Core 40 with Academic Honors Minimum 47 credits Earn 2 additional Core 40 math credits (math all four years + 8 th grade Algebra I) Earn 6-8 Core 40 world language credits, and Earn 2 Core 40 fine arts credits, and Earn a grade of C or above in courses that will count toward the diploma, and Have a grade point average of B or above (3.0), and Complete one of the following: Two Advanced Placement courses and corresponding AP exams Academic, transferable dual high school/college courses resulting in 6 college credits from priority course list One Advanced Placement course and corresponding AP exam and academic transferable dual high school/college course(s) resulting in 3 college credits from priority course list. Score 1750 or higher combined SAT math, critical reading and writing Score a 26 composite ACT score, complete written section

17 Advanced Placement Classes Advanced Placement (AP) is a program in the United States created by the College Board which offers collegelevel curricula and examinations to high school students. American colleges and universities may grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores on the examinations. How is it different from a regular or honors class? Simply put, AP classes are more difficult than other classes. It s at least 30% more [work] than another class, said James Keipp, the director UCLA s AP Readiness Program. Tecumseh AP Courses: AP World History AP Calculus AP Language & Comp. AP Literature & Comp.

18 Core 40 with Technical Honors Minimum 47 credits Students must meet all requirements of Core 40 Earn 6 credits in the college and career preparation courses in a State-approved College & Career Pathway and one of the following: 1) Pathway designated industry-based certification or credential 2) Pathway dual credits from the lists of priority courses resulting in 6 transcripted college credits. Earn a grade of C or better in courses counting toward diploma Have a grade point average of B or higher (3.0) Complete one of the following: Any one of the options of Core 40 with Academic Honors Earn qualifying Work Keys scores Earn qualifying Accuplacer scores Earn qualifying Compass scores

19 Technical Honors Diploma Requirements NOTE: Students earning both AHD & THD must complete both AHD requirements plus technical school requirements for THD.

23 STATE TESTING REQUIREMENTS ISTEP+ Must pass Algebra I and English 10 to graduate Biology ISTEP+ is 9 th grade year PSAT Take in October of sophomore & junior year National Merit Qualifying Exam for the junior year Visit for information Accuplacer Required for Dual Credit Classes SAT and ACT Take the ACT and/or SAT in late winter or spring of the junior year & again senior year Advanced Placement (AP) Students will first take ISTEP+ assessments once they finish the courses of Algebra I and English 10 (sophomore year). Students who do not pass the ECA for a particular subject will be re-mediated in that subject and then given a chance to retest.

24 What s a GPA? A GPA is your grade point average; the average of all the grades you ve earned divided by the number of credits you have taken. A = 4.0 B = 3.0 C = 2.0 D = 1.0 F = 0.0 If you earn these grades for example: A, C, C, B Add (it equals 11) Then divide by 4 That means your GPA for that semester is a 2.75 Your GPA is CUMULATIVE, which means your final senior GPA includes grades from freshman year or earlier.

25 Valedictorian and Salutatorian Requirements The valedictorian and salutatorian.. be the student(s) with the highest cumulative grade point average. must have completed eight semesters of high school. Grades from at least four of those semesters must be from Tecumseh High School. must earn an Academic Honors or Technical Honors diploma must complete at least two Advanced Placement courses.

34 Youth First Social Worker Youth First School Social Worker Youth First exists to transform and strengthen the lives of young people and their families through evidence-based programs that promote healthy behaviors, prevent substance abuse, and maximize student success. Whitney Eaton Youth First Social Workers work with students individually and in groups, free of charge. Common reasons students see the Youth First Social Worker include depression, anxiety, anger management, academic issues, divorce and grief adjustment, family problems, substance abuse and suicide prevention. Youth First Social Workers also often give classroom presentations at school. Presentation topics vary according to what is needed but may include peer pressure, dating, bullying, friendship issues, family relationships, etc.

Earn a high GPA; set reasonable yet challenging goals Start learning about college Keep track of your involvement and accomplishments MAKE SUMMER COUNT: summer is your chance to get ahead by volunteering, working part-time jobs, enrolling in summer programs, etc.
