3 You are currently an IB student here at NAHS You are part of the IB MYP here your classes focus on INQUIRY based learning and you will have a culminating project at the end of your MYP experience called the Personal Project

4 It is time for each of you to decide your next move! We want for you to make the best decision for your particular needs, goals, and plans. The question now is: is the IB DP or CP right for you?

5 What is the IB Diploma Program? The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, aged 16 to 19, for success at college and life beyond. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students. The programme has gained recognition and respect from the world s leading universities.

6 What is the IB Career-related Program? (CP) CP students undertake a minimum of two IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses, a core consisting of four components and a career-related study what we call a PATHWAY. For CP students, DP courses provide the theoretical underpinning and academic rigour of the programme; the career-related study further supports the programme s academic strength and provides practical, real-world approaches to learning; and the CP core helps them to develop skills and competencies required for lifelong learning.

7 Are there admissions criteria to be a student in either IB program? YES!!! Any student, regardless of core class level, can be in the DP or CP It is recommended but not required that pre-dp or CP students take at least one AP course in 9th and 10th grade to help prepare them for the rigor and coursework in the IB DP or CP DP 85% + in core & Language Completion of the Personal Project (score 4+) Minimum PSAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of years of the same Foreign Language CP 85% + core & pathway completion of the Personal Project (score 4+) Minimum PSAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 450 Must be on a pathway* already

8 Approved Pathways for NAHS in the CP What this means is if you already have taken at least one class in any of the following pathways, and you enjoy that class CP might be a great fit for you! -- -but you must have at least one class already ---- Audio/Visual Technology & Film ---- Business & Technology ---- Graphic Design ---- JROTC Army ---- Programming ---- Web & Digital Design ---- Visual Arts Students take 3 years of pathway: 9 th -12 th or 10 th -12 th If you started your pathway in 9 th grade, you continue with Work Based Learning in 12 th grade (except for Visual Arts all 4 years are arts courses) MAYBE for Orchestra too we are working on that one

9 So if I chose to enter EITHER of the IB Programs, what should I expect? You can expect to develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically acquire breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding, studying courses from various subject groups develop the skills and a positive attitude towards learning that will prepare you for higher education make connections across traditional academic disciplines undertake in-depth research into an area of interest enhance your personal and interpersonal development through service engagement experiences You can expect to have more homework than you do now You can expect to make close connections with other students in the programs because you will share your IB classes together

11 You at the center of it all! Below is the Diploma Program model that would begin next year. Your 6 subject areas (called GROUPS) The 3 Core components that connect to your 6 subject areas: CAS, TOK, and the EE Of course, International Mindedness surrounds it all.

Your 2 DP subject areas and your chosen Pathway (Career-related Study) The 4 Core components to the CP: Reflective Project, Language Development, PPS class, Service Learning Of course, International Mindedness surrounds it all.

14 The TYPICAL IB CP class schedule (because you only have to take 2 DP classes, you have more room in your schedule to take classes that might interest you AND another cool thing about CP is that you have room to also take AP classes see below 1. 15 The CORE of both programs DP CAS stands for Creativity, Activity, and Service. You engage in 150 hours of the 3 over 2 years TOK stands for Theory of Knowledge - a TWO year class where you think about how we know what we think we know EE stand for the Extended Essay a year-long research paper in a subject that interests you CP SL - stands for Service Learning. You engage in 50 hours service over 2 years PPS stands for Personal and Professional Skills - a TWO year class where you practice writing, thinking and communication skills. RP stand for the Reflective Project a year-long research paper in your chosen pathway subject LD- stands for Language Development - a portfolio of 50 hours of engagement in another language.

16 Sounds like doing the IB DP or CP is a lot of work! You might be asking yourself, would I have a life? Most IB students play sports, are in the arts, start or run their own clubs and organizations too! You will have CAS mentors and EE supervisors for the DP and Reflective Project, Service Learning, & Language Development supervisors for the CP to help you navigate through it all as well. If you were to ASK any IB teacher at NAHS what is the one requirement to do well in DP or CP, they will mostly likely say: A highly motivated & hard working student!
