1 January 29, 2018 Jacket News # 21 Come Visit Alvin High School Would you like to know what your student s day is like at AHS? We would like to invite you to visit and tour our campus. We will be hosting campus visits and tours every Wednesday with tours starting at 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. If you are interested, please call Ms. Kreft at to sign up for a day and time that works best for your schedule Alvin High School Report Card To view the Alvin High School Report Card Click Here Attention Bicycle Riders Students if you ride a bicycle to school, you must chain your bicycle to the bicycle rack and not to any of the pipes or poles. You must also take your chains home with you every day. There are several bicycle chains locked up on the bicycle rack and to the pipes and poles near by, these chains and locks must be removed before Friday at 3 pm or they will be cut off and not returned. Once again, if you ride a bicycle to school, you may only lock your bicycle up on the bicycle rack and you must take your chain and lock home with you each day. Scholarship Assistance AHS Counselors will be available to help interested seniors complete the AISD Local Scholarship Packet in B102 today, January 29th from 3 5 PM. Please make plans to complete your application early. The deadline is Sunday, February 4th at 11:59 pm. Feel free to contact your counselor if you have any questions. Local Scholarship Packet Due Sunday Alvin ISD Local Scholarships are open. Apply for all scholarships for which you qualify. This packet is due on Sunday, February 4 th at 11:59 pm. Click Here to View the Alvin High School Local Scholarships ASVAB Testing Rescheduled The after school ASVAB test scheduled for January 23 rd was rescheduled to February 12 th, at 3 pm. This is a voluntary test and students will need to sign up to take it. Juniors and seniors can sign up in Mr. Fitzwater's office or send him an letting him know. AP Exam Registration AP Exam Registration is going on until February 28 th. Payment will be due on March 3 rd. To register log on to Alvin Yellowjacket Baseball Buddies It s time once again for the Alvin Yellowjacket Baseball Buddies! Registration is going on now through Saturday, February 3 rd. For more information Click Here Powder Puff Game AHS's oldest tradition is back! The Annual Powderpuff game will be held on Thursday February 22nd at 7pm at the Alvin Memorial Stadium. Jrs and Srs that would like to participate can pick up a form from outside CM 216 or B 109. $20 per participant and you must be fine free. Practices will start on February 12th.

2 Prom The Alvin High School Senior Class Officers of 2018 are proud to announce the details for Prom. The theme this year is "Midnight in Morocco." Prom will be held on April 7th, 2018, from 8pm-midnight, at the Galveston Convention Center. Tickets will go on sale February 28th and will be $50 each. All AHS Jrs and Srs are invited. You may bring a NON-Alvin High School date between the ages of You must fill out a NON-AHS date form and submit the completed form at the time of ticket purchase. Students must be clear of all fines before they may purchase a prom ticket. If you have questions please see Ms. Flores in CM 216. Senior Wall of Honor Pictures SENIORS!!! Come join the Wall of Honor. Let us know where you are going to school next year. Whether it is a university, college, tech school or one of the armed forces. If you have an "ACCEPTED" banner from the university or college you are going to attend...bring that for your picture or wear a t-shirt representing the University/College/Branch of Armed Forces where you are going next year. 7 Lady Jacket Basketball coming out strong! AHS athletes raising money and asking Kroger customers to donate to the food bank for the Souper Bowl of Caring. A group of young aspiring Alvin ISD Ag students traveled to Blinn College to participate in the FFA Elite Conference. These students were selected by their chapters to represent and also gain information on leadership and improving their chapters.

8 Another Successful Elective Fair Alvin FFA Officers promoting Agriculture and our program at the Alvin High School Elective Fair. Thank you to the Alvin Marine Corp JROTC for all your help in preparing for the Elective Fair with the balloons and set up. Members were there to help promote their program.

10 Our English 3 team designed an Amazing Race to challenge their students to use the skills they ve been learning in an engaging way to solve the clues! Learning doesn t always happen in a classroom! Mrs. Smith s class worked hard to finish their poetry task cards and win the Amazing Race.

11 English I classes are escaping the STAAR in the library! Kids are solving clues that must be approved by their Jedi teachers! 9th grade English classes are saving the Rebellion by Escaping the STAAR Wars 0 replies0 retweets0 likes

12 Mrs. Bray s students are working hard writing their compassion essays. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Mrs. Pauley s class has begun Hamlet. Ms. Moore s Art 1 classes are investigating careers; particularly creative careers. AVID Students visited Texas Southern University.

13 Advanced Fashion Design field trip to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts exhibit of Oscar de la Renta. Mrs. Cantu, Mrs. Hopkins and Mr. Kettler attended with the students. The students had an amazing time The Alvin High School Color Guard competed in their first contest of the season and finished 2nd in Scholastic A Red!
