4 SELECTING COURSES

5 High School All Classes Matter All of the following will count in a learner s GPA: ALL high school classes taken for credit Any middle school classes taken for high school credit Credit by Exam and Correspondence Courses (count as an on-level class) Overall GPA is first calculated after the first semester of 10 th grade.

6 Class Rank CHS ranks only the top 10%. Rank is first calculated after the first semester of 10 th grade. Ranking of the top 10% is determined by a second GPA (Rank in Class GPA) A list of classes that count toward Rank in Class (RIC) can be found in the Course Planning Guide. The symbol signifies that a course counts toward a learner s Rank in Class.

On-level Classes *solid preparation for college *delivers more repetition Honors Classes *open enrollment *more challenging *faster pace *prepares learner for AP/IB level coursework AP/IB Classes *most rigorous courses available at CHS *learners may earn college credits based on AP/IB test scores *AP course availability begins in 9 th grade *IB courses begin in 11 th grade Gifted & Talented (GT) Classes To begin the school year in GT classes, learners must have previously qualified for the GT program.

Foundation + Endorsement = Distinguished Level of Achievement 26 Credits (at minimum): 4 credits of English 4 credits of Math 4 credits of Science 3-4 credits of Social Studies 2 credits of a LOTE (same language) 1 credit of Physical Education 1 credit of Fine Arts 4-5 credits for Endorsement 4 credits of electives

11 HOW DO I EARN AN ENDORSEMENT? Multidisciplinary 4 credits in each core subject area: ELA, SS, Science, Math OR 4 credits in Advanced Placement (AP) OR 4 credits in International Baccalaureate (IB) Arts & Humanities 5 credits in Social Studies OR 4 levels of same language in LOTE OR 2 levels of same language in LOTE and two levels of different language in LOTE (ex: 2 credits in Span & 2 credits in Fren) OR 4 credits in fine arts (art, band, choir, theatre, dance) OR 2 credits in fine arts and 2 credits in a different fine arts (ex: 2 credits in Art & 2 credits in Choir)

(CONTINUED) Business & Industry A coherent sequence of courses for four or more credits in CTE that consists of at least two courses in the same career cluster and at least one advanced CTE Course. Career Clusters Architecture & Construction Arts, A/V Tech, Communications Business Management & Administration Finance Marketing Information Technology Public Services A coherent sequence of courses for four or more credits in CTE that consists of at least two courses in the same career cluster and at least one advanced CTE Course. Career Clusters Education & Training Health Science STEM 5 math credits (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, + 2 additional credits) OR 5 science credits (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, + 2 additional credits) OR A coherent sequence of courses for four or more credits in CTE that consists of at least two courses in the same career cluster and at least one advanced CTE Course. 13 CTE Endorsements and Pathways Endorsement FAQ s:

14 Can I change endorsements? * Yes and No. As long as a the requirements as laid out in the Course Guide have been met, a student can change endorsements when registering for the NEXT school year. A student CANNOT change endorsement ELECTIVES during the school year. Can I earn more than one endorsement? * Yes. Provided the student earns enough coherent credits, he or she may qualify for more than one endorsement.
