2 3/23/2018 Senior Picnic Friday, May 4, 2018, 5:30pm - 8:30pm Smokey Glen Farm, Gaithersburg, MD Senior Prom Friday, May 18, 2018, 8:00pm -12:00am Silver Spring Civic Building Graduation Speaker Post-prom 12am-5am after prom Bowl America, Clopper Road, Gaithersburg Do not need to attend prom to attend post-prom Monetary donations, prize donations, and parent volunteers are needed Tuesday, May 29 th, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. in the main gym. All graduates are required to attend the entire rehearsal in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. If a student arrives after 9:00 a.m., he/she will be seated at the end of the alphabet. Students who have obligations will not be permitted to participate in the rehearsal until the obligations are paid in full. If the obligation is paid after rehearsal begins, the student will be seated at the end of the alphabet. Caps and gowns will be distributed at the end of rehearsal. Please remind your son/daughter to immediately take their cap/gown out of the packaging and hang it up to remove wrinkles. Do not spray wrinkle remover on the gown. No cell phones during the ceremony. Wrinkle free academic robe. No decorations or messages on the graduation cap. Tassel on the left. Cap should be parallel to the floor. Jewelry should not be on the outside of the robe. Boys Girls Long dress pants Dress shoes with socks White shirt with collar and tie Dress or blouse with skirt, or long dress pants Avoid high heels Purses cannot be taken into the ceremony Graduates do not need a ticket. Graduates may enter DAR at 1pm, and must arrive at DAR no later than 1:45 p.m. must be in the processional line in the in order to participate. Graduates enter through the C street entrance only. They will line up in the C street and D street lobby. Graduates will not join their families again until after graduation. Arrange an outdoor meeting location. Guests enter through the main entrance on 18 th Street only. Handicapped ramp on D Street. Doors are open from 1:30p.m. to 2:15p.m. Doors are locked at 2:15p.m. and do not reopen until after the processional (approx. 2:40pm). Everyone attending graduation must have a ticket, including young children. All tickets are general admission/not assigned. Reserved seating (handicapped or box seats) do not have a separate ticket. 2

Must be requested in advance on the ticket request form. If handicapped seating changes need to be made, contact Ms. Christy Rice as soon as possible. Seats will be reserved in the handicapped section. The handicapped tickets will be marked with a label on the back of the ticket. A letter with detailed information is included in the ticket envelope for those who have requested handicapped seating. All families and graduating students must provide their own transportation to DAR Constitution Hall. Parking: If you are planning to drive, the address is DAR Constitution Hall, 1776 D Street, NW, Washington, D.C., Metro: Take the red line to the Farragut North station. Exit the station on 17 th street and walk south towards Constitution. Turn right on to D Street. The Main Entrance is on 18 th Street between C and D streets. PTSA Buses: Families and graduates may choose to take a chartered bus to DAR with a paid ticket per person (including the student graduating). $15/per person (PTSA members) $20/per person (non-members) Ordering information is in the back of the packet and on the PTSA website. Buses will be located by the stadium, NOT in the front of the school. Guests may park in the lower parking lot. Photography IS permitted, however, no filming will be permitted from the aisles, blocking the view of others. Professional photographs (each student shaking the principal s hand and candid shots) will be available to purchase online through Lifetouch. Wootton High School and MCPS have also arranged for professional taping of the ceremony. DVDs may be ordered or purchased after the ceremony using the order form in this information packet. Live streaming is available using the following link: The ceremony must end by 4:30p.m. Arrange an outdoor meeting location. Diplomas: After the graduation ceremony, students will proceed to their assigned lobby to receive their diplomas. If there are issues with the diploma, please contact Ms. Yanis, School Registrar, the next day. Security personnel have the authority to remove individuals who do not act in accordance with established ceremonial guidelines. Please reserve your applause until all graduates have received their diploma covers. This is a dignified ceremony whistling, yelling, cheering, etc. is inappropriate. Balloons and noise makers are not permitted. DAR Security will not allow you to enter the building with these items. Immediately after the tassel turning, the band will play the recessional. Graduates will exit through the side doors. They will collect their diploma in the lobby and then exit DAR. Please arrange an outdoor meeting location. Do not exit the hall until all graduates and faculty have exited. 3
