4 What about the PSAT? The Redesigned PSAT Overall Timing: 2 hours, 45 minutes (35 minutes longer than the old PSAT and very close to the 3 hours (without essay) for the new SAT. Section Timing: Math: 47 questions, 70 minutes Reading: 47 questions, 60 minutes Writing & Language: 44 questions, 35 minutes Scoring: The PSAT will be scored on a scale from in each section or a overall No penalty for wrong answers just like redesigned SAT.
5 What is the PSAT? It s a pre-sat Doesn t count towards your college admission. Practice for the real SAT. High PSAT scores can qualify you for a National Merit scholarship (among others).
6 Your Score Report Each section is scored and then they are added together to get the total score. Highest possible total is 1520.
7 Your total score is: Reading & Writing = Math Note the percentile rank: Also note your College and Career Readiness: 1) If you scored in the red, you need to work on it. 2) Scored in the yellow? Approaching Benchmark 3) Green means you Met or Exceeded Benchmark. 7
8 This is the National Merit competition part of the PSAT/NMSQT. To qualify for the National Merit Scholarship competition, your score usually has to be above 200*. It will vary every year to a small degree. Suggestions for improving skills This score is the sum of the three scores below, multiplied by two: = 64 x 2 = 128

12 Subscores & Insight Scores The Redesigned SAT Insight Score Summary In total, College Board hopes to report the following in addition to the Composite and Area Scores (Math & Evidence Based Reading & Writing. (See chart on next slide for further explanation). Three test scores each on a scale ranging from 10 to 40 in the following areas: (1) Reading Test score; (2) Writing and Language Test score; (3) Math Test score. Additional Essay scores, 3 scores for the essay, but final scoring is pending Two cross-test scores on a scale ranging from 10 to 40 in the following areas: (1) Analysis in History/Social Studies and (2) Analysis in Science. Seven sub scores, scored from 1-15 Reading & Writing will contribute two subscores:(1) Command of Evidence and (2) Relevant Words in Context. The Writing and Language Test will also report two additional subscores: (1) Expression of Ideas and (2) Standard English Conventions. 16 How many times? Prepare to take SAT or ACT once, plan to take at least twice. We suggest not taking either test more than 3 times. If you take the SAT multiple times, then you can send all of your scores and colleges will take your best score from each subject.
