4 Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Launched by Hon ble P.M on 22 nd January, 2015 to address the decline in Child Sex Ratio and related issues of disempowerment of Women Convergent, coordinated action, by GOI & the States, between Ministries of Health, HRD, WCD Objectives: Prevention of gender biased sex selective elimination Ensuring survival and protection of the girl child Ensuring education and participation of the girl child Major Components: Mindset changes - advocacy & awareness Implementation of the Pre Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PC&PNDT Act) Enabling Girl Child s Education Multi-sectoral action in 100 districts covering all States/UTs; Expanded to 61 additional districts across 11 States led by DCs/DMs 4

6 Advocacy & Media Campaign Advocacy and Media Campaign at PAN India level follows a 360 degree approach with messages on positive reinforcement of girl child Radio - Series of radio spots/jingles were disseminated through AIR, FM and Community Radio Stations Television - Series of Public Service TV Advertisements SMS Campaign - Reached out to 4.5 Cr. subscribers daily during a 6 day Campaign Community Engagement Mobile Exhibition Vans, District Level interventions Social Media MyGov, YouTube, G+, Facebook etc. Field Publicity Programmes by Song & Drama Division and Directorate of Field Publicity, MoIB Special Campaigns /drives like slogan writing competition on MyGov, #SelfieWithDaughters, #SunoMaaKiKahaani 6

7 Gains by BBBP thus Far Launched in 100 districts in January 2015 & expanded to 61 additional districts in April 2016 Captured National Consciousness Political leadership owning it and driving it Committed implementation at District levels PAN INDIA Expansion proposed 104 Districts Positive trend observed in Sex Ratio at Birth in 104 BBBP Districts out of 161 Institutional delivery improved in 146 districts First trimester ANC registration improved in 119 districts Sex Ratio at Birth Source: HMIS data, MoHFW (April-March, & )

8 Expectations from States/Districts State Task Force Meeting to be held -at least twice in a year ; District Task Force once in a quarter Revalidation request and UC & SOE for the GIA released during District Action Plan (DAP) for to be submitted by States/UTs; Execution of DAPs- States to follow-up with Districts Undertake Monitoring Visits to assess work being done on BBBP States to report back on- Monthly Progress, Document Case Studies/Success Stories/ Best practices, Local Champions Identified, Trainings held States to strengthen Civil Registration System for robust, authentic data on birth registration and Sex Ratio at Birth Join BBBP Whatsapp Group and Share activities/ interventions in the group to enable inter-state, inter-district learning 8
