26 A WORD OF ADVICE Proper academic placement is essential for academic success. Students are encouraged to pursue a challenging course of study However, they should keep in mind that the demands of honor-level and Advanced Placement (AP) courses are significantly higher than those of on-level courses. Students should consider course load, extra-curricular commitments, interest level, afterschool jobs, and future goals when signing up for honors-level and AP courses. In general, students in honors-level and AP courses should have well-balanced skills in the subject area and a high level of enthusiasm for the subject.
